April (Lasai) Event Log

This Lasai marks one year since the outer walls moved, expanding Havenwell for the first time in centuries. The natives are commemorating this event in their own ways, watching the walls for any further changes just in case. With the turning warmer and spring sweeping through the city, it's natural for them and the offworlders to expect something new and exciting to happen. This year, however, it seems they should have been watching for something other than the walls...

The biggest change comes from within )

October (Lasohm) Fourth Wall Log

Speaking of Wall Breaking...
The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:
  • a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  • we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  • anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  • characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  • you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  • check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:
  • players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  • network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  • any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  • Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

Click the above prompt to expand for details. Timeline-wise, this occurs October 30th to November 2nd. For players currently in-game, if you have any questions, please direct them to the FAQ or to the Mod Question thread on the original plotting post.

On this post, we've created both another Questions Thread and a Toplevel thread (see below) for visiting players, the latter so that anyone can track and see who's posted! When you've made a toplevel, feel free to comment HERE to let everyone know.

October (Lasohm) Event Log

With the fall season in full force, the changes that spread across the city now are unstoppable; the colours have shifted, the wind begins to take on a sudden chill, the sun goes down a little earlier each day. As the city is thriving in a much more delightful way than it was last year, residents are loving it. Many of them have set up viewing parties to observe the falling of the leaves, ancient robots are rediscovering their inner child by raking up piles of them and jumping in. Their old metal joints may not appreciate the heavy impact, but they are extra grateful to the offworlders this month, and are collecting multicoloured flora and the last of the garden flowers to press and store for comfort in the coming winter months.

If you have any plants outdoors, you might want to bring a few inside, because as some say: Winter is Coming.

September (Ohnir) Event Log

The month of Ohnir brings with it a slow but steady relief from the heat, as summer gives way to autumn and the city begins to change with it. Plants are slowly deflowering, leaves are starting to fade and fall, and while the season is not yet in full swing, all the signs are there if you know where to look. The city is abuzz with new energy as the residents realize that for the first time in centuries, they have some actual nature clean-up ahead of them: raking leaves, pruning branches, protecting young wildlife and fresh plants from the incoming chills of winter. Such work used to be relegated to those who cared for the botanical gardens and zoos, but now everyone who's been enjoying this year's garden harvest has to learn how to future-proof their treasured flowers. Offworlders are encouraged to do the same, lest all of the growth be lost over the winter.

June (Dianir) Event Log

Dianir, the month when Diacht's power begins to take hold, has begun and the effects of the previous month's rejuvenation have finally worn off. The city is fresh and new with flora and fauna (now rightfully contained in their proper habitats), and the weather begins to turn ever hotter with each passing day as summer begins encroaching upon spring. The natives and new residents alike are adjusting to the first major changes to Havenwell's layout in centuries relatively well, all things considered, with natives slowly and cautiously beginning to expand businesses and homes into the newly opened areas. The temples are abuzz with activity as adherents flock to them, offering praise and words of thanks for the gods and the offworlders, without whom this major step forward would not have been possible.

The priests, however, seem a little...distracted? Worried? Something seems off with them, and as the month of Dianir really gets underway, their reason why becomes quite obvious. The gods expended a lot of energy in order to open up the city and then to cleanse it, and by a lot, we mean a lot. Some gods had more power to give than others and that imbalance seems to be affecting all of their adherents this month...

But with great power comes... )

May (Ealom) Event Log

Ainea's power begins to wane as the last of her months begins, but that doesn't mean it's completely gone yet! With all the effort everyone has put in to clearing and reclaiming the new parts of the city, Ainea and the rest of the gods want to show you the fruits of your labors. A fragrant and gentle breeze springs up through the city, winding through its streets. It's strongest near Ainea's temple, but the power seems to flow from the entire city as it sweeps outward through the new areas. As soon as the wind reaches the outskirts of Old Havenwell, it becomes visible - a shimmering semi-opaque swirl of mixed colors that curls along the ruins and streets. Wherever it goes, greenery and life follows, the atmosphere lifting and the city gleaming in its wake. Small, tentative flowers bloom along the path of the wind until it brunts up against the barrier wall, bursting into a shower of sparkles.

Congratulations, Havenwellians and off-worlders alike! You've cleansed the city!

But with great power comes... )

April (Lasai) Event Log

Lasai is a beautiful month. The weather is warmer, the sky is a breathtaking blue again, and with the flowers from Ainir growing nicely, the entire city of Havenwell just feels more alive with every breath. It's a time of renewal, of rebirth, of Ainea's greatest strength as her adherents open the temple gates to invite people and robots from all walks of life to enter and share together. What should be a joyous time, however, is suddenly interrupted as the earthquakes mount day by day through the start of Lasai. Those messages that people have been receiving since Nalom? It seems it's time for the gods to deliver on their promises.

March Event Log

Spring has sprung! Or at least, in theory. The month began monthly unremarkably, besides the priests of Ainea's temple prepping for the first month in their deity's season, which tends to be a little sleepy as the city traditionally shakes off those winter woes. The earthquakes still has everyone feeling a strange anticipation for change, but with how long it's gone with no noteworthy shifts yet, excitement has grown somewhat muted. All of that is about to change...

March (Ainir) Intro Mingle Log

Welcome to Hugtopia, and to the city of Havenwell. This mingle is meant for new arrivals to get settled and meet the other inhabitants. New characters should be the only top-levels but everyone should feel free to tag around and make new friends. Who knows, you may find that Perfect Hug in here. You can use the prompts here, or create a wildcard of your own.

ICly, this takes place from the 2nd to the 15th and then we'll have a shiny new event post up for you all soon after that date range. The prompts below are optional, but are a way to get you started if you wish. To help you create your own prompts, please take a look through our Settings and FAQ. Click on each prompt's title to see the text. If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to the FAQ or to the Mod Question thread below.

PROMPT I: Awakening
When you awaken, you're in the last outfit you remember wearing, three of your belongings laid nearby or your animal friend curled up by you, waking as you do. It's not the most comfortable place to sleep, a stone slab, but once you're awake, a humanoid-looking robot comes in and explains you're in Havenwell and leads you out of the room and into the main portion of the temple where a welcoming committee of similarly humanoid-looking robots hand over a clear smartphone-sized tablet, some starting funds, and explain their dilemma. Then they release you into Havenwell to pick your new home from free housing in the city and give you the chance to settle. It might be a bit disorienting, but thankfully there seem to be a lot of robots and even some non-robots around. Maybe ask them for help?

PROMPT II: The Great Havenwell Hunt
robotic hand holding magnifying glass over paper list

Now that you've arrived in Havenwell and are getting to know your area, the city's council has created a new and exciting way to get to know your new home! Isn't that fun? This game is one best played with others as some of the challenges can be difficult for those just arriving in the world of Aellyn: a most glorious scavenger hunt! As you leave the temple, the priests explain to you to how to use the communication devices and point you toward the Scavenger Hunt's network page which is appropriately over-excited to see you here in Havenwell. The page lists several randomized clues to items and places within the city for you to explore and collect. Find a buddy, complete the list, and turn in your items to your temple priest in order to win a fabulous and mysterious prize. Clues to your items include, but are not limited to:
  1. Take a picture with your buddy in front of where the offworlders saved our city. We would not be alive without you!
  2. These temporary and delectable trees are hard to find hidden among their brethren, but in their branches edible gold awaits you! Bring one of these fruits to your priest.
  3. Eight arms outstretched to protect our home, take a picture with you and a friend emulating their poses.
  4. A magical helmet only the offworlders can use. Put it on and find yourself somewhere completely new! Bring the receipt of a game played to complete this item.
  5. In these lofty towers, we learn about our world and yours. Pick up a memento from their gift stores!
  6. Though they fly in the sky, they drop not feathers but scales. Take a picture with one to complete this quest!
  7. Small but mighty, don't underestimate their strength in numbers. And they do have the greatest numbers. Take a picture with five or more of these cute little creatures to complete this quest!
  8. Their piercing blue gaze can see the purity of your heart and their wings can help you reach the heights you deserve. Take a picture with one of these in order to complete this quest!
  9. Languid though they may seem, these cunning beasts can become mighty hunters in an instant. But they seem rather weak to things that swish. Take a picture with two or more of these animals in order to complete this quest!

Feel free to make up your own zany prompts if you like. If you're stumped on the answers and want to know, check below. But more importantly, that mysterious prize the council teased.....?

It's a metal keychain of your god's patron animal! How cute! Isn't that just what you wanted after all that work?
The Great Havenwell Scavenger Hunt Answers
  1. Go to the slightly off-colored section of the city wall toward the south where the breach from the October event happened.
  2. In the conservatory's botanical garden are hidden plastic trees with gold-foiled covered chocolate coins hanging from them like fruit. Take one and turn it in to the temple priests.
  3. Pose in front of the the main town square's statue fountain that depicts the four gods of Havenwell.
  4. Go to any of the city's the VR cafes in the Entertainment Districts and play a game with a friend. They'll send an electronic receipt to your communicator to prove you participated. Find more information about the VR offerings here.
  5. The city's multiple science towers will have a small gift store on the bottom floors selling many different kinds of nerdy goods from metal pens to pocket protectors to rulers and magnifying glasses and more. Buy something small and show it to the priests.
  6. Go to Rawna's temple and take a picture with a dragonling.
  7. Go to Ainea's temple and take a picture with five or more mice.
  8. Go to Diacht's temple and take a picture with a white and red crow.
  9. Go to Ohma's temple and take a picture with two or more of the cats. It cannot be the cats from Affurgato!

PROMPT III: Gentle Trembling of the Toes
two people standing back to back

The daily soft earthquakes in effect since last month are still ongoing. As a reminder- a very gentle rumble has been occasionally reverberating throughout the city, an earthquake small enough to not cause any damage, but large enough to be felt. The timing of it is sporadic, but it happens once a day. The sensation will typically last for anywhere between 10-30 seconds before dissipating as if it never occurred at all.

Each time one of those tremors occur, many of the robotic residents in town will immediately stop, find a partner, and link arms while standing back to back with one another, clinking their heads together. They stand that way for a while, even after the tremors subside, until at last they say their farewells and move on. If asked, rather than alarmed, the town natives are tentatively optimistic, even excited in some cases: the quakes are a message, a gentle warning, but of what they don't yet know. It's been so long since a public declaration from their deities was made, due to their diminished presence in the world and the decline of the planet. The priests are especially eager, bustling about in their temples trying to prepare for whatever might happen, but no one seems to know exactly what, or when, the next step will occur. The doors exiting out of town are being reinforced, and the guards have doubled up their patrols and will be especially vigilant about explorers going too close to the walls around the city. Most people at least know this much: do as they do, when the tremors hit, and you'll understand a little better.

There are new messages that characters can receive:
1) "Change is coming." this message is passive, almost like a greeting.
2) "We thank you for all you have done." this message is softer, almost apologetic.
3) "We shall do all we can to keep you safe." this message is gentle, almost parental in its affection.
4) "Share your bounty and your joy." this message is kind and encouraging, tugging you toward people you may not have met yet.
5) "Remember to keep the balance." this message is plaintive, but without urgency.
6) "Do not approach the walls." this message is LOUD, insistent, and the most frequently transmitted.
7) "Soon, change." this message is a gentle reminder.
8) "We welcome you to our home." This message is sent most frequently to newcomers.
9) "Be not afraid. You are safe." this message is polite and reassuring.
10) "Keep your footing and watch your step." this message is cautious, a firm warning.

The voice that conveys these messages is a collective of multiple, speaking in synchronization but at inconsistent volumes. Multiple links (eg. different threads) can receive multiple messages, and characters do not have to hear the same message as their partner.

This occurrence is also ONGOING. The quakes will continue until it is announced in the near future when they end. Stay tuned!

As stated above, feel free to start up any other prompts you like within the setting of the game! Welcome and have fun!
