State of Havenwell & Aellyn

  • Lasra (January) brings with it the lightest winter yet; the temperate is mild, the snowfall light and fluffy, and the wind does not blow quite as hard as one might expect considering the time of year. This weather is consistent throughout the city limits, with the exception of one area: the central plaza, where the egg's nest is laid. That area is actually quite pleasant, heated by the cooperative effort of the residents who opted to cuddle with the egg and each other, creating something of a bubble, almost like an incubator. If the slight chill of the still-mild winter has you shivering, swing by the center of town to warm up.

  • Speaking of the egg, it has been a long time coming, but in early Lasra, cracks begin to appear across the surface! Days pass with little change, whatever is within the shell chipping slowly against its confines. It draws in an eager, anxious audience of locals, keeping a respectful distance but ever-hopeful that whatever hatches will bring good tidings. Eventually, though, the shell at last breaks apart, and what emerges is a pony-sized griffon, golden coloured and iridescent, wings damp and wilted, chirping curiously as he witnesses the world for the first time. Despite being newly born, the reincarnated Winged Lord carries within him a surprisingly wise look to his eyes, and as its body dries in the light of the sun, it begins to radiate a gentle glow, demonstrating to any detractors that this is, in fact, the final lost god. He remains in the center of town for a few days, meeting the people of Havenwell, accepting gifts and prayers and simple greetings, happy to experience both the world and the company of the people who helped bring it back from the dark. After some time he will venture underground to the tunnel from which his egg was originally rescued. Should anyone worry for him, his answer will be simple, calm, and to the point: "Don't worry, I am going to visit my friend. We have a lot to talk about." There is a subtle joy in his tone as he speaks. Once he enters the tunnel, he will vanish from the city and no longer be found, but the air continues to feel brighter, the city abuzz with warm energy. The world has changed for the better, and everyone can feel it.

  • By mid-month, the priests of all four temples have come forward to begin separating and reverently dismantling the nest in the center of town. What once were pillows, blankets, bits of string, and fluff are now fragments of the Winged Lord, blessed by his light, and they intend to save every piece. There are exceptions, however. To each and every offworlder, the priests send a message: come to the temple, we have a gift for you.

Should you go to the temple of your associated god, a priest will present to you a small, strange charm. It is a fragment of the Winged Lord's egg, bound and fastened with a string pulled from his nest. It looks fragile, but is astonishingly strong, seemingly unbreakable. Take care of it and do not lose it, you are told by the priests, for this is your way home.

  • After the eggshell charms have been distributed, news travels quickly that the underground tunnel has changed yet again. The Crawling One has devoured the earth surrounding the original gateway to its realm, and has encircled it tightly multiple times to create a new doorway, just as nebulous and wispy as before, but without the poisonous atmosphere of the prior portal. Its gate is lined with glimmering golden feathers, and it glows with a warm, inviting light. Should you venture close to it, you will be overwhelmed with the nostalgic feeling of familiar. It smells like your favourite recipe, it feels like an old blanket from your childhood bed. It gives you the distinct and unmistakable feeling of home, and very gently, it calls to you. You need only walk through.

    1) Should you wish to forget Havenwell, Aellyn, and your time in this world, crush the eggshell after you cross the threshold of the Crawling One's doorway. This will send you back to your world as you were when you left, and everything will be as if it were a dream: fading into nothingness when you wake up. (Only within the doorway will the shell be fragile enough to break.)
    2) Should you wish to remember, hold the eggshell charm gently, and carry it with you into your world. As long as it remains unbroken through the doorway, you will remember.
    3) Should you wish to journey with someone else and reach the same destination, hold your eggshells together, hands entwined, as you cross through the doorway. Whoever's world is the intended destination MUST lead the way, taking the first step. This choice comes with a warning: you will be lost from your world, and might not be able to return. Choose this option carefully, as the consequences are your own. Those who arrive in that world may find themselves separated, in different locations, but the charm will help to guide you, magically drawn to others who carry a fragment.
    4) Should you wish to stay in Aellyn, you need only refrain from crossing through the doorway. Your presence will be welcome wherever you go; the world still has a good deal of recovering to do, and many hands make light the work.
You will not be judged, for whatever option you take. The door will remain open until every offworlder has made their choice.

Current God Status & Effects
  • The final god power balance, from strongest to weakest, is:
    1. Rawna
    2. Diacht
    3. Ainea
    4. Ohma

Thanks to the awakening and reformation of the Crawling One and the revival of the Winged Lord, the gods have regained their ability to balance their own power. There still remains a long road towards true collaboration, but thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, they are well on their way to resolving their own issues. Collectively, Hugtopia netted a total of over 29,000 hugpoints! Well done, and thank you everyone!

  • And Thanks For All The Fish

In celebration of the rebirth of their god and revitalization, while the priests are carefully dismantling the nest the rest of the city's natives are hurriedly working to express their gratitude. By the time the offworlders receive their eggshell charms, there are eager residents wishing to see them off with charms and trinkets; some made with Havenwell's trademark fabrics and ribbons, some with seashells traded from Shoremere, and many with a mixture of both as a tangible mark of all that the world's visitors have aided in accomplishing. While they of course ask for nothing in return, if one should ask then the native residents can only think of one form of payment:

Leave nothing unsaid or unspoken. Share your secrets, confess your uncertainties, speak your thoughts and have them be heard by more than just yourself. Should you do so, in addition to a lovely charm and heartfelt well-wishes you may just feel a little warmth in your chest helping you onward in whatever decisions you should choose to make.

September (Ohnir) Event Log

The integration of Shoremere and Havenwell throughout the late days of summer has so far gone swimmingly (to use the obvious water-based term) and enthusiasm in both cities appears to show no sign of slowing down. Natives of both locations as well as the offworlders of Havenwell have extended hands in friendship, and by all appearances relations between the two are continuing full steam ahead.

The time and day are nothing special; while most native and offworlders may be expecting something strange to happen, a slurry of bizarre circumstances, transformations or adjustment of attitudes and behaviour... instead, what arrives is a rush of warm weather, clear skies, and a rallying cry from the southern part of town: All Aboard!

The weather is growing quite lovely, punctuated by a sweet scent in the air as local flowers begin to grow and bloom, signifying the start of what many argue is the brightest and most comforting of seasons. While not all bend the knee for Ainea, she is beloved and well known as the kindest of the local deities, so even denizens of other chapters appreciate the good will she presents when her season comes to play. Brace yourselves, residents of Havenwell: spring has officially sprung, and the mouse is in your house. (Theologically speaking, anyway.)

December (Ranir) Event Log

As another year winds to a close, the air grows sharp with a wintery chill; the perfect weather for curling up with someone under a cozy blanket with some warm hot cocoa. To contrast the cold weather comes a distinctly festive warmth to the city itself; it's some holiday season, even if the natives still can't quite grasp what. While recovery from the recent worm-based catastrophe is still an ongoing thing, the natives are going through with the festivities as they've learned to celebrate: Decorations strung about the city are a bit haphazard and in all manner of colors both holiday-themed and simply colorful in general, the spirit and enthusiasm are certainly there.

Who: Ghost (Tiriaq) + OTA
Where: Around Ohma temple/ Southern section of town
When: June 30th- July 6th(ish)
What: Lost in a very strange city
Rating: G? Can't think of any CW's

[Prompt 1: Buddy System (For Kaiba- Lucky him!)]

Ghost couldn't have been more confused, or scared, but mainly confused. His head was spinning with the information he'd been told from the machine-man who called himself a priest. As he followed the priest out of the Ohma temple, he nearly ran into the machine-man's back when the native spotted one of the younger non-natives nearby. The native waved the dark haired boy over and explained quickly that he was very busy and needed help acclimating a new arrival. The native barely waited for an answer before he was handing off a weird box to 'Ghost' and heading back into the temple.

The boy gaped at Kaiba bewildered. He looked to be about nine or ten with shaggy, unkempt, white hair, wide, blue eyes, and wore a long, rustic, handmade, fur lined coat with an equally rustic satchel across his chest, and leather boots. He had a tiny copper and opal ring on one finger and was was about as mismatched for a high-tech city as one could get.

[Prompt 2: Hunting for Food (Open!)]

After successfully finding something cooler to wear- a t-shirt meant for a very large man instead of a small, scrawny kid that he was wearing as a tunic or dress with sandals and shorts, not that you could really see them- Ghost was out exploring. Mainly, this meant, he was looking for food.

He'd tried hanging out around the Ohma temple as a fox and eat what the cats were fed, but the priests didn't seem to like that so much. He'd also looked for dumpsters with food scraps, but for some reason there weren't a lot of restaurants around. He'd gotten excited about finding a grilled cheese in a back alley but then the sandwich chased him! He didn't like this place!

So you might find him behind Affurgato peeking in the trash cans, hanging around the community gardens or someone's personal garden that might have something edible growing, or maybe if someone's cooking is particularly aromatic he might be stealing a peek in their window.

[Prompt 3: Petals & Pages (Open!)]

Similar to scouting for food, Ghost kept an eye out for new places to hide and rest. One such place he discovered was a quiet shop full of books and comfy couches. He snuck in and silently looked around.

Ignoring the books, he went over to the couch furthest from the door. Channeling his power, he shifted from his human form back to a little white fox and hopped up. Curling up, it wasn't long before he was fast asleep.

Hope no one comes by and discovers this unusual visitor..

June (Dianir) Event Log

Ainea's time has ended and now Diacht's months have arrived. Dianir marks the beginning of the hot summer months with a rise in temperature as well as humidity. With each passing day, spring gives way to summer, and the natives of Havenwell are enjoying the blue skies along with the newly expanded barrier. With the most dangerous of the beasts gone thanks to offworlder help last month, researchers and conservationists head out on occasion into the newly opened areas to continue the work of cataloguing and preserving what they can find. Some take time to study the barrier and some just seem to enjoy being outside the walls for the first time in centuries. Meanwhile, the city within seems to have calmed from Ealom's excitement, settling into its usual routine with only a few…"hiccups."

Who: Anybody in Pyra's social circle!
Where: the younger Caelum's house
When: Today!
What: it's Pyra's birthday :3 come celebrate!
Rating: probably G-PG

Pretty much anybody in Pyra's communicator with whom she's even remotely friendly will have received a notice this past week or so with the date, time, and address for… a birthday party! Come on by and pass along your well wishes.

mood

The younger Caelum household is decorated with blues and reds, nothing too fancy but done with obvious care: balloons, streamers, woven flowers. There's music jamming in the living room area, loud enough to be heard but not enough to overwhelm the entire house. Mostly easy listening car tunes, but there's a handful you could dance to if that's your jam.

Noctis is properly hosting rather than wallflowering for once, at the beck and call of the lady of the hour for whatever she wants. He'll make a point to sit Pyra down in a extra-fancily-decorated chair at some point to open presents, complete with a dorky foil crown on her head. She's the queen today!

food

The party is partially catered by Affurgato, as is tradition, so the quality of the buffet is on point. There's also plenty of finger foods from Lucis- real fries, sushi platters, grilled meat skewers. It all smells great.

The cake is a strawberry-vanilla swirl, simply but cutely decorated with chocolate-dipped ulwaat strawberries. There's no set number of candles on the cake; they're peppered on with no set pattern at all. (How old is she? Don't worry about it.)

brood

If you need a quiet space away from a crowd, try the backyard. There you'll find… well, a different crowd. It's kind of a zoo. There's a hawk in his mews, a blue chocobo in her garage stall, two dogs chasing one another, and a lazy mercat in her corner pool. The garden is lovely and populated with freshly growing spring flowers, and while it's somewhat full of furry critters, at least it's quiet.

September (Ohnir) Event Log

The month of Ohnir brings with it a slow but steady relief from the heat, as summer gives way to autumn and the city begins to change with it. Plants are slowly deflowering, leaves are starting to fade and fall, and while the season is not yet in full swing, all the signs are there if you know where to look. The city is abuzz with new energy as the residents realize that for the first time in centuries, they have some actual nature clean-up ahead of them: raking leaves, pruning branches, protecting young wildlife and fresh plants from the incoming chills of winter. Such work used to be relegated to those who cared for the botanical gardens and zoos, but now everyone who's been enjoying this year's garden harvest has to learn how to future-proof their treasured flowers. Offworlders are encouraged to do the same, lest all of the growth be lost over the winter.

Where: Noctis, Pyra, & Prompto's house
When: August 30
What: A birthday shindig!
Rating: I assume PGish

As someone not especially inclined to throwing big parties for himself, Noctis would have been satisfied by just a chill hang-out with his family at most. Pyra seems to have other ideas about what counts as an appropriate level of celebration, so he's more or less given her free reign to plan out the evening dinner and get-together. The result is very… Pyra.

An invitation to join them would have been sent out or given via conversation to:
-Noctis' friends and family, of course
-anyone in Noctis' communicator contacts
-friends of friends
-....people Pyra just felt like inviting

Really, it's a good thing that the house is quite large, because it's more or less a free for all.

Who: Open to all
Where: Affurgato
When: This week
What: An open mingle at the restaurant which is... mysteriously celebratory!
Rating: who knows, probably PG/13ish?

Regulars of Affurgato might notice things have spiced up a little bit in the last several days; the decor is a little brighter, the staff more upbeat, and the food, while tasty as ever, is a little different. The restaurant is advertising a summer menu of slow-cooked BBQ sliders, sweet potato fries with honey butter dip, grilled pineapple and watermelon slices, and warm peach cobbler with ice cream. The prices are slightly more premium than usual, but ooh, doesn't it all smell worth it? Newcomers might even get a discount, if the right elf twin gets their bill. But how do you know which one's the right twin? ...Yeah, good luck with that.

For this week, the menu will include two curious additions as well: a Thanksgiving-esque meal including fresh slabs of turkey and stuffing, flavoured with bacon grease, and a slice of rainbow layer cake. The cats are very attentive, especially to recognizably good tippers, and there's a display sign outside the door with a doodle of a binicorn in flashy sunglasses shouting the words "ONE YEAR MORE, NERDS", which might be weird to those who know that Affurgato opened about six months ago. Ah, well.

Also noteworthy is the fact that an actual, tangible magical bicicorn will be running around for the first 45 minutes of every daily shift that the restaurant is open, trying to scoop people up onto his back and deposit them in front of the shop. You're here now, so you might as well get a meal, right? Don't question it.

Come one, come all! Enjoy some good food and the company of your neighbours, maybe visit the elves and see what's up.

June (Dianir) Event Log

Dianir, the month when Diacht's power begins to take hold, has begun and the effects of the previous month's rejuvenation have finally worn off. The city is fresh and new with flora and fauna (now rightfully contained in their proper habitats), and the weather begins to turn ever hotter with each passing day as summer begins encroaching upon spring. The natives and new residents alike are adjusting to the first major changes to Havenwell's layout in centuries relatively well, all things considered, with natives slowly and cautiously beginning to expand businesses and homes into the newly opened areas. The temples are abuzz with activity as adherents flock to them, offering praise and words of thanks for the gods and the offworlders, without whom this major step forward would not have been possible.

The priests, however, seem a little...distracted? Worried? Something seems off with them, and as the month of Dianir really gets underway, their reason why becomes quite obvious. The gods expended a lot of energy in order to open up the city and then to cleanse it, and by a lot, we mean a lot. Some gods had more power to give than others and that imbalance seems to be affecting all of their adherents this month...

But with great power comes... )

( c. Temples, Rawna & Ohma - OTA )

[For the first day after his awakening, and then sporadically after that, Noctis can be found initially in Rawna's temple, then either there or at Ohma's- the two gods he feels something of a kinship with, not for themselves but for their animal familiars.

At Rawna's temple, he's listlessly tossing whatever he can get his hands on for the dragons to snatch out of the air or hunt down. At Ohma's, he moves a loose string for the cats, letting them swat and chase it or chew on his glove. There's always been something peaceful and cathartic about animals, for him. Easier than people; no questions to answer, no misery to share. He won't object to company, of course, but he'll be unusually reserved for a while.

He avoids Ainea's temple like the plague.]

Spring has sprung! Or at least, in theory. The month began monthly unremarkably, besides the priests of Ainea's temple prepping for the first month in their deity's season, which tends to be a little sleepy as the city traditionally shakes off those winter woes. The city of Havenwell is recovering very well thanks to your efforts, offworlders. The hole in the wall is sealed up and, while maybe not looking like new, it certainly looks sturdy and safe. The city itself has removed much of the rubble from the battles you fought, and the people are back to their regularly scheduled lives. They're eternally grateful that you continue to put in the time to rebuild this final bastion of civilization and are pleased to see that you enjoyed their festivals so far. Instead, she appears to have swapped the accessory with something a little-- rather, a lot different: a hat. It's too big for her head, and in accordance with the fickle weather of the city, a gust of wind blows the hat right off. ]
...Ah!

[ It's flying right at you, too. Catch it? Or, even if you don't, she will, sprinting and leaping past you to ensure that it does not touch the ground. This hat is important! Very important! She's not going to let it become damaged if she can help it. Whether you or she manages to save it from a fall, she breathes out a sigh of relief, smiling at you as she straightens up, tossing her hair. ] ...Thank goodness. That was a close one.
