There's a lot going on this month, plenty of work to be done. But as they say, many hands make light the work! And to make up for the grim and grey atmosphere awaiting those who decide to venture outside the barrier, the weather within the city limits is clean and clear, that perfect spot resting between hot and cold. The middle of Dianir brings to Havenwell the start of perfect summer weather. Be sure to give yourself a lovely break when you need to get away from the endless storm outside.
❥ PROMPT I: Corridor of Lights
Compared to how the weather and world beyond the barrier was a few years ago, the wilds these days appear far less harsh. While the constant storm of dust and debris appears to maintain its viciousness further out, and it is yet strong enough to obscure whatever source of light there is beyond the atmosphere, its tumultuous gusts are noticeably less harsh closer to the city itself. And, in fact, there even appears to be patches of green just outside the barrier, although the growth rapidly stops at a certain near-distance from the city. All together, this prompts those of the researchers to make an announcement: that they are allowing– no, they are asking the off-worlders for help in Phase I of repairing the mysterious train station to the south. What do they want the non-locals to do? To make a corridor meter by meter or even inch by inch if necessary, by placing the charged up crystal-conduits of last month on poles either side of a path, stringing them together with reinforced cable.
Once the corridor is fully finished with the conduits strung together by poles and cables, the makeshift highway will come to life by a dim, golden light reminiscent that of the barrier. Starting with the conduits nearest to the city, a shimmering, semi-translucent shield appears to dome over each section of the path until finally spanning its entire length, seemingly dispelling any miasma within. Just in case, though, the locals suggest to not remove one's exosuits just yet. This golden-lit corridor has an ethereal quality to it, muting the howling wind outside, as well as providing a sense of safety and warmth. A few local helpers can be seen standing in awe of this grand accomplishment, holding hands or linking arms as they marvel at the replicated barrier, walking down the path slowly. Some of them may even come up and thank the characters for their hard work. If they hadn't been made of metal, they are sure they would be shedding tears of joy.
- As mentioned above, characters will be setting off beyond the barrier. The further characters trek as they set up the corridor, the more hazardous and darker the environment becomes. Further away from the city, even before reaching the train station ruins, light is scarce, and the world is cold, dry, and with winds as harsh as sandpaper. At some point, one's only source of light may be the flashlight attached to the exosuit front or the dim glow of the conduits themselves. Safe travels.
- Characters will all be given exosuits to wear beyond the barrier, which are custom-fitted to their body, as well as a conduit. While researchers encourage characters to continue engaging in touch as they march into the open, it isn't necessary to participate.They will also all be given a flare to use in case of emergency.
- Despite the improved quality of air beyond the barrier, staying out too long can still result in contracting a mysterious illness that involves chills, fever, malaise, and fatigue. The locals know of this illness as being borne from a mysterious miasma that permeates both air and ground outside. Touch alleviates the symptoms, but it takes time. If one is exposed while still beyond the barrier, characters can use their flare to signal for (player-discretion) NPC support to bring them back to the city. Tents will be set up by the locals to take in any injured or ill characters.

❥ PROMPT II: Chaining the Supply
With the highway finally established, the researchers are calling for the initiation of Phase II, involving more sets of volunteers (they know, they know, they're needy; but don't worry, they promise they'll compensate you with dora!).
- Help with Supplies: Become a runner of supplies from point A to point B on the corridor, passing off items, cords, metal, electronics, to the next volunteer.
- Help with Charging the Conduits: Regrettably, the consistency of the barrier surrounding the corridor is patchy in some areas. The locals are asking for help: simply engage in any form touch with someone next to a dimmer-looking conduit. They have even provided plush couches for characters to relax upon. What do you mean, that's not comfy? No worries, they'll also provide a privacy curtain for you. Alternatively, these couches can be used as a resting station for characters in need of a break.
- Protect the Corridor: The light of the corridor is bound to attract a few curious and hostile wildlife to its source of light. Those who are brave enough may depart the safety of the corridor's barrier to combat or capture the creatures that would threaten its integrity. Please see below for list of potential wildlife encounters, and note that any engagement with these creatures generates a big risk of exposure to the miasma that may make a character severely ill and lethargic. Working with a partner is encouraged.
For those who opt to attempt to capture some of the infected creatures, specialized nets will be provided to allow for safe catch-and-transport without making contact with the poison they exude. There will be an area designated for the captured creatures until they can be transported to one of the research labs. Some of the crystals have been moved to clear the area, and while they are held there, offworlders are encouraged to attempt a new experiment: can the crystals also purify the poison inside living creatures, as well as the air itself? If offworlders make contact within the creature's and the crystal's vicinity, can they be saved?
If your character ends up capturing one of the creatures, please comment to this comment here noting which ones and how many.
These are the creatures that can be encountered on a character's path. Next to their names are the frequency with which they can be found and level of hostility. Characters can encounter either untainted or poisoned renditions of these creatures, if a regular version exists.
- "The Apparitions" (uncommon - very hostile): a creature new to those both native and offworld, these ghost-like creatures can take any form, humanoid, robotic, animal. They are translucent and mostly featureless/faceless, floating from place to place and trying to stay out of sight. They prefer to perform sneak attacks, and should they make contact with someone's bare flesh or (if you're unlucky) phase through your suit, they are able to stun most people, capturing and preventing your escape as they begin to steal your thoughts. Whatever fleeting thing might pass through your mind as you make contact with them is devoured, whatever you're feeling is consumed. This effect can be halted by another person interfering and forcing the apparition to break contact, but they can only be harmed by those who have formed a physical connection with one another. Basically: don't be caught alone by one, or there will be no escape unless someone comes to your rescue. (Apparitions cannot be captured, only slain or driven away.)
- Inky Black Spiders (common - hostile): These relatively small, black spider-like creatures have very basic melee attacks, using their fangs and their sharp legs to bite and claw at people. Those who were around in October when the wall broke will recognize them as the most common enemy back then. Their exoskeletons are hard and when they die, they smash into a black goo. They tend to travel in packs, using sheer numbers to overwhelm their prey.
- One-Eyed Lizard (uncommon - docile): An iridescent scaly purple and green lizard approximately 8 to 10cm in length from tip to tail. It has a single eye at the top of its head that can rotate to see 360 degrees around it. This creature's main defenses are its tough hide and a spine on the tip of its tail which it whips at predators to dissuade them from eating it. It's more likely to run than fight, however, and can usually be found sunbathing on exposed rock with its eye closed.
- "Bone Giraffe" (extremely rare - hostile): A nearly 20-foot tall, long-necked skeleton of a four-legged creature long dead with a single curved horn protruding from its skull and a sharp snout. It's usually found lying in a heap, as if it laid down and died that way. A black seven-petaled flower sometimes (but not always) grows from the skull and beneath the skeleton is an oily black film. Touching the oil slick activates the creature, which draws the oil up into the skeletal cage. Its main attacks are brute force, using its bony legs and neck to kick and slam against its prey, and its acid breath. It breathes a black fume that sizzles and burns anything it touches.
- Rive Talon (rare - hostile - medium): In the past these creatures may have been canines of some form, now they seem to have melded with the detritus of the fallen buildings and creatures of the landscape. Extra spikes, ridges, and protrusions extend from its body at odd angles. Many of them are metal or stone, rather than bone. And some of the bones clearly were not originally its own.
- Outskirts Hare (uncommon - docile): A shy creature, roughly the size and shape of an earth hare, covered in fuzzy-looking, curly pink hair and cat-like whiskers. Normally quite timid, this creature's poor eyesight causes it to flee when it feels threatened, and relies largely on a sense of touch to navigate its surroundings. Contact with this creature's fur is markedly pleasant, but its skin discharges an oil that causes mild skin irritation on contact when it's nervous. Active mostly at night time.
- Ansaurini (rare - annoying): a bipedal feathered bird with sharp claws and teeth good for chomping; some possess flight capabilities, but the majority are prone to a lazy waddle. Mostly harmless and deceptively unassuming until you turn your back- and suddenly it's run off with something it stole off your person! They are excellent at escaping, though they can be traced back to their hoard, and if their collection is raided they will make a lot of noise in protest. Just watch your back- they will try again until you leave their territory. Truly, a horrible thing.
❥ PROMPT III: Pop-Up Mouse Café
This month, the clergy of Ainea's temple are excited to announce a pop-up café for which people are free to volunteer or attend as guests. Whether a character decides to serve others or be served, the staff of the pop-up offers a headband with metallic mouse-ears on top for all to wear. They come in a variety of different hues of pinks and purples, colors that characters may recognize as being associated with Ainea. These headbands are wired to shift and turn with the moods of whoever is wearing them. The rest of the uniform, which includes formal black-and-white attire complete with frilled aprons, is optional. Featured items on the menu include teas and hot chocolates as well as a variety of (synthetic) artisan cheeses. Volunteers who decide to don the mouse-ears of the café will also be encouraged to serve snacks and drinks within the recovery tents set up for the workers who venture outside the barrier. Feeling ambitious? Those who manage to serve tea or cocoa to over five people in the recovery tents will be awarded a golden pin of a mouse they can proudly display on their uniform! Look your cutest, and get out there! You can also keep those ears.
At the end of the day, the staff will gather the group to take a photo together, local and off-worlder crew alike, to hang up on the temple wall. Supporting each other, coming together, and community through difficult times is a cornerstone of Ainea's teachings.

Getting to go outside of the barrier feels like it could be a breath of fresh air. Ah, theoretical fresh air anyway. Nothing outside of the safety of Havenwell's barrier seems to be very fresh, but being cooped up in the city limits for as long as Tamaki has been makes the idea of getting a little more roaming area outside of the walls makes him feel downright restless.
So, suited up, Tamaki spends a handful of days helping out in getting the corridor set up.
"It's kinda spooky out here, huh...?" Exciting as it is to be out here, there's something eerie about how desolate the landscape is. Having a partner to work with makes the risks of exhaustion manageable, but there's also something to be said for keeping some of those creepier thoughts at bay, too. "You doin' okay?"

When he's finished stretching his wings outside of the barrier, there's still plenty of work to be done to help out with the expansion efforts. Such as... refreshments for the tired workers. Hm. Hmm!
Well! Tamaki has a little bit of experience under his belt with serving, and plenty of experience with dressing up in costume, so on the cute mouse ears go, along with the snappy black and white attire. He is ready! To help refresh any tired workers!

[It's rare for Noctis to go on solo excursions - he's reckless but not stupid, he knows his limits - but little ventures off the main path to chase off or tackle the monsters he can handle isn't that dangerous. Or rather, it is until it isn't.
He'd just finished off a couple of stray rive talons when it happens: a spectral hand reaches out of the dark at him, and he's barely able to phase out of the way in time, watching its ghostly fingers drift through the blue afterimage of his body. It makes an unnatural hissing sound from somewhere in its featureless face, fading from sight and trying to ambush him again from another angle. It's a simple enough tactic, one he adjusts to with ease, and then- at the last second- it stretches its hand past him, to where he's going. The creature's touch hits home when the phasing completes itself, and he's gone. He doesn't even have a second to realize what's happened.
To those who might stumble upon him, it's probably a strange sight. His body is flashing in and out of existence, a person and a wire-frame of blue energy, as his instincts try in vain to phase him out of danger. He's pale and breathing hard as his magic is steadily drained by the phasing, while the ghostly creature floats behind him with its hands pressed to his cheeks, holding him paralyzed and taking what it wants from him.]

His arrival doesn't come with a warning, just a sword suddenly flung in out of nowhere and thunking into whatever is most convenient - a dead tree, a chunk of fallen building, whatever monster is causing trouble - and Noctis teleports in along with it, kicking up to his feet and ready to go.]

The adventure she finds isn't exactly what she had been looking (or hoping) for, but Era makes do. She watches the unexpected, confusing lightshow for a few moments before she's finally able to focus her magic on the more corporeal target. Flying Sardine isn't the strongest of spells, but it is one of her favourites for a reason. Sometimes you just need something to stop moving, and there's little better to stun someone with than a giant, aetherial fish flying at their face. ]

The closer he gets though the more something just doesn't feel right. His instincts are screaming "wrong, wrong, wrong" long before he even hears the harsh breathing. Unfortunately, he can't figure out what exactly is wrong. Some of these creatures are too spectral for him to pick up on without sight. Still, he knows something is off and can tell a person is nearby. He holds his staff in an offensive position ready to fight and hopes a little shout will be enough for whatever is going on to reveal itself a bit more.]

[Once the barrier has been created and is, for the most part, stable, Regis turns his attention from it to the new threat that has presented itself--the infected creature attacks. For anyone who has seen or heard of this video, it is probably no surprise that his attention is drawn to a certain species of infected critter: the dreaded klepto-duck, better known as ansaurini to those who, perhaps, have not been at the wrong end of their antics before.
Oh, but Regis is older and wiser now. He has no plans of being on that wrong end again as he attempts to put an end to their antics and also help the natives in the process. It's
killingcapturing two birds with one stone, honestly. Plus, he has a plan and a net this time.What can go wrong?]
Prompt I: Recovery Tents
[The Lucis Caelum family is know for a lot of things on Eos. Here though, it might be said that they are known for one main thing and that thing is going overboard. Regis could have (and probably should have) stopped at catching one ansaurini for the natives, but he didn't. He didn't even stop at two. Perhaps it's just because they keep showing up near him, or perhaps it's just because he's holding a grudge, but eventually his multiple captures and time outside the barrier land him in a place that no one will be surprise to hear about--the healing tents.
Well, at least he knows fighting these symptoms and arguing with the natives is useless. He's felt the pains of the miasma sickness before, and there is nothing to be done about it besides resting and having contact with another. At the very least he can help someone else, so he turns to the nearest person to him and holds out his hand with a small smile.]

Prompt II: An Experiment in Healing
[While recovering Regis has time to think about his klepto-duck quest so that once he is released from the healing tents, he can approach it from a different angle. He doesn't capture anymore, but he does offer to help try to cure them. While he is certain that touch near the crystal conduits is likely the only answer, Regis doesn't hesitate to offer the potions he can make as well. They have never helped with this kind of thing before, but it doesn't hurt to test them again. Things have changed in the world while they have been here. Who knows if that change might reach into other, less obvious things as well?
Besides, the ducks are kind of cute in that weird way that the malboro in the Li'l Malbuddy cartoon is cute. Kinda. Sorta. Maybe.]

Actually setting up the corridor of lights was not something Vianca was properly equipped to do. Keeping critters at bay wasn’t in her wheelhouse either. Running supplies, however, was practically her calling. In the greater scheme of things she just wanted to be helpful when there was so much going on she could not have a helping hand in, which covered up every natural compulsion was involved in this.
So here was one tiny girl with an overtly large pack on her back, waiting patiently for a native to finish loading it. There were intermittent pauses as they checked to see if it was too heavy yet. No, not yet. A bit more. Still not yet. Some more could go in there. Not yet still. Some more– there. That was enough.
And off she went! Speeding along on her little legs to get to point B with a ridiculous amount of things on her back.
Maybe? Check on her?

Taking breaks was important. Periodically Vianca would take the initiative to take advantage of one of those couches. It was very responsible.
Now she was locking eyes with you across the way. She reached over and made a little pitty pat next to her on the couch. Eyes were still locked. Come sit.
✿ iii. The most color coordinated waitress
Taking breaks was important!! Promoting rest at the recovery tents was also a task that seemed like something that Vianca was able to do. They had managed to find a small enough outfit for her to wear to feel truly part of this volunteer staff (even if it was still Too Big honestly). Those pink and purple ears looked like they were almost a part of her pink hair.
Here she was, a tiny mouse appearing at someone’s side. While her expression was as neutral as ever, those ears were especially perked while waiting for a response.
“Hello,” she greeted quietly. “What can I get for you?”

Behold, a reason for the reckless boy to be reckless again. Not that he was going out of his way to do anything dangerous, it was just an inherently dangerous task. He was actually trying to be very mindful of his surroundings. It sure was something out there. The footage some of the other offworlders had been able to bring back really didn’t do the real thing any justice.
The darker it got, the closer he tried to keep to whomever was closest out there in the wild. His flashlight was still shining bright and steady thanks to the electricity Kai was carefully feeding it. “Ah, watch your step,” he said as he shed some light on… well, whatever kind of debris that was. A gnarly rock? Some twisted element? A lizard poking its one eye out to stare at them? Regardless, watch out.

Kai was grateful for that slow and steady work to be over with. Zooming (carefully, there were pedastrians on couches out here geez) down the corridor was a task he was more familiar with.
Usually he was cruising down the corridor on his bike with the sidecar full of supplies, but it wasn’t always full up. He’d pull over whenever he noticed someone out on the road off on their own looking particularly worn out.
“You alright? Need a lift back or anything?”
☾ iii. Obligatory Mouse Ears but Also Resting
Maybe he was here at the pop-up cafe. Possibly it was because he’d seen someone he wanted to chat with while they were working, there were a few candidates that fit that bill! Did he get mouse ears somehow? Yes? Yes.
Then again maybe he’d ended up at the rest tents. He’d been spending a lot of time out and about in the corridor, it was only a matter of time until he’d have to check himself in for some downtime. Maybe he wasn’t immediately obvious with that towel draped over his head, but the right people would recognize that delinquent squat he was pulling. Sir you should probably actually sit on a bed perhaps.

When the call came out to help, of course he had to answer it. It was only right to. However, he didn't expect the exo-suits. He can just imagine putting one on, passing it to the next person, and getting them sick. He supposes he could just go back to the house and call it day, but he's not an average person, is he? No. He's a walking corpse. And with that in mind, what could happen?
He waits until the robots are distracted and quietly slips past them. He doesn't need the flashlight the exo-suit comes with. In fact, it's dark enough, he feels safe lifting his goggles up a little and finds he can do so without pain. Still, he should be careful not to be caught off guard. He wouldn't want someone seeing his eyes shine in the dark or worse. As for the supposed miasma, well, he can just not breathe, right? No problem.
Nooo problem.
No... problem...
He doesn't know how far he's gotten past the barrier when he starts to feel a burn. It starts as an uncomfortable itch, but then it grows. He coughs, and stupidly, sucks in air in the process. That... that burns a lot more. He stumbles and his gaiter starts to slip. Just as he moves to pull it up, his eyes register a form before him. For first time since he left the last world, he sees a ghost.
II - Gotta Catch'em All
He shouldn't be out here. Especially not after what happened to Faust. He can at least justify using the exo-suit without worrying it will get anyone sick, but... well, at least he can't bite anyone with it on if anything goes wrong.
While he still brings his bow and his arrows, he also brings a net. It's the whole reason he's still tempted to wander back out here. A crystal that can purify poison inside creatures. It would probably just kill him if it did work on his infection, but he can't help but wonder.
He looks to his partner and asks, "Are you... up for capturing... some of these...?"
III - DeadMau5
This is more his speed. It's no real cooking, but he still doesn't trust he can do that safely. Just serving drinks and cheese platters means he can keep his gloves on and help out. So, why not?
He skips out on the fancy uniform save for the apron, which settles over his usually apocalyptic garb. The headband forces his hood off, revealing dark hair that's discolored to a lighter grey, long and messy in the grown-out way. He keeps the gaiter up over his face and the usual goggles on as well. His stupid crooked grin is well hidden as usual, but the mood-ring headband does well to reveal his giddiness anyway.
"Can I... get you anything...?"

...Although, he hasn't had the chance to see the outside of the city for himself. He is a little tempted to see it first-hand, to get a better idea of what they're actually dealing with... and with what dangers are out there, is it really a good idea to let Teo go unsupervised?

So the suits are a pain, but fortunately magic makes changing into one simple enough. No sign of Teo yet, though. Maybe he's already gone ahead? Hopefully with a group or partner... not that he looks for one himself before venturing out into the dark. It's certainly desolate out here, a far cry from the luxuries of the city...
He spots movement out in the haze. Not a fellow off-worlder, but a floating apparition that immediately puts him on edge. Is it a restless spirit or a side effect of these cursed lands?
But what makes his blood turn cold is what the ghost floating before, or rather who, not even wearing a suit. But there's no time to question that, not when he sees the being with its hands reached out. He summons his mirror.
"Satillquinart Mullcreed!"
His magic circle forms before his mirror, and from it a beam of light strikes the apparition, not banishing it completely as he'd hoped but it at least forces it away for now. He takes that chance to rush to Teo's side, only now giving in to the urge to call his name.
"Teo! Are you hurt?"

[The idea of using crystals either as a power source or to otherwise effect change via one means or another is nothing even remotely new to Emet-Selch. Enough so, in fact, that the idea that they might be able to be used to help clear the miasma and otherwise create a barrier against same isn't even remotely surprising. He is, admittedly, not particularly thrilled about the exosuits, but he's heard enough about what lies beyond the barrier to know that they are very much a necessity.]
A world marred by calamity, where naught but desperation might save it...
[He'd known what to expect. But even so, he can't help but be reminded of his own world, though he doesn't let that keep him from turning to the task at hand, and he spends a not insignificant amount of time helping with getting the barrier set up.
...And, admittedly, keeping half an eye on Era, both via her aether and not, depending. He might not be able to keep her from exploring, even when she's still recovering, but he can at least try to make sure she doesn't get into to much trouble.]

[Unfortunately, having been splitting his attention between both helping and keeping an eye on someone else means that he does manage to lose track of time and does manage to land himself in the recovery tent.
And to judge by the expression on his face, he is none too thrilled by either the side effects of overexposure to the miasma or the proposed way to alleviate the symptoms.]
Did they make mention of how long this was likely to last?

[Once the barrier is properly in place - and he has recovered from his miasma-induced illness - Emet-Selch returns to the newly created corridor to once again offer his assistance (and to continue to do his best to keep an eye on Era). And given that there is no shortage of supplies that need to be moved from one place to another, he turns to the convenience of his teleportation. He does not however, take into account whoever might be at the other end, much less what they might think of someone appearing out of a swirl of darkness.
Even if he does have a set of supplies in his hands.]

[He can also be found spending his time helping take care of the more hostile wildlife that has come to check out the corridor. Most often this means blasting the wildlife in question with any of the variety of spells he has at his disposal but every now and then - and mostly for the larger or more violent creatures - he can also be also be found wielding a sizeable greatsword, and with more ease than might be expected from someone who has a tendency to look more like a mage than anything else.]
