October (Lasohm) Fourth Wall Log

❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

• a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  
• we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  
• anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  
• characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  
• you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  
• check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

• players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  
• network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  
• any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  
• Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

[It was always nice to have assurances that one was not, in fact, losing their mind. The city seemed to be quite mad recently, to be sure--but that was 'the city' and not 'just Ardyn'.]

[A fair bit calmer than he'd been in recent days, he started to actually function again; spending some time around Affurgato, wandering aimlessly after dark, and just generally trying to keep track of the remarkable uptick in peculiar goings-on. For those who might have been familiar with what he would eventually be, he was a far cry from that sight--dressing in simple and comfortable clothing in tones of gray and off-white, long hair often tied up to keep it relatively under control.]

[Maybe to some, the sight of Ardyn being a calm and unassuming person was the strangest thing in a long list of strange things. It sure as hell could be put solidly in the realm of 'unexpected' for those that knew 'Ardyn Izunia', at least.]

[ Despite having yet to adjust to the oddity within her, Hemera is already hard at work searching for the concept she'd borrowed. She comes across a young man (isn't that novel? A flesh-and-blood adult in a world that has thus far been filled with children) and decides he may be able to help her. ]

Excuse me! [ She is mildly out of breath, having been a flurry of motion since she awoke and regained her equilibrium. ] Have you happened upon a concept laying about in the past few bells?

[She's still not exactly sure about everything. This place is odd. She doesn't particularly like anything about any of it. But there isn't much she can do about it at the moment. So she's been wandering aimlessly herself. Mostly taking in the sights -- doing a lot of thinking and mentally taking not of where various places are located.

Of course she's doing this at night because at night there's less people. And people are annoying.

But this does not help when she rounds a corner and practically runs into a rather unassuming looking man. Her? With overly long, two-toned hair she'd probably stand out in a crowd a little bit more. But that's another story. She just sort of stops in her tracks and stares at him as though it were somehow his fault that she almost walked right into him.]

[ It's the next day after his arrival to this world, he's not used to the layout of the city itself yet. but as he walks along the streets, his nose picks up on the familiar smell of the bakery goods that he first had when he gotten in.

well, after he and Noctis had gotten a chance to talk about hard things, that is. he'd been impressed that someone could match his cooking skills and he takes great pride in his own. he can recall his comment to Prompto when he suggested to try Iris' cooking, but Ignis had made a comment that he just going to pretend that he didn't hear that. he'd taken offense at such a thing, cooking was is still his thing.

he steps inside the cafe, meows picking up as he does so. even though he can't see it, the cat that Noctis had put in his lap is running to meet Ignis, walking in between in his legs. he stops in his tracks, afraid that he might trip. Ignis kneels down for a second, blindly reaches for the cat and picks it up, cradling it in his arms.

he moves now to go find a seat somewhere, not knowing that Ardyn is lurking around somewhere else within the cafe. ]

[ One learns to accept... these sorts of situations, and being present in this world for well over a year let along another universe prior to that, it was some amount of time for Honerva to adjust and take it in stride. The previous few weeks had been unsettling, the more physical chaos that followed almost preferred in some form.

That all said, Affurgato is certainly open to new and it's usual visitors, some bastion of calm in the middle of this. Surely there's a kind soul you can find to help you pay your way for a delicious meal, or simply agree to hold a staff member's hand for a short while, something like that, get that all squared away at the front.

For her part, along with Lup, Honerva usually is on hand to assist with taking an order, helping someone find a seat, or being certain the cats are well. She might seem otherwise greatly distracted when not engaged in a conversation or some aspect of the work, but she has plenty of reasons for that. Otherwise, she's not so bad at this by now; it's always been practice for her, getting used to greeting people and assessing their wants. ]

[ Mostly, she'll be staying close to the cafe, or sometimes just out on a rooftop observing, if she's not staying close to home, or keeping an eye on her communicator, a little wary of what she might discover there, if someone happens to catch her outside of hours, or purposely plans to meet her then.

[ Era had told her that Affurgato was the only place in the city worth eating, and not just because her friends were in charge of it. This seemed more than satisfactory enough for Hemera. Not only would she be able to try the food her future-self holds in such high regard, she would be able to meet some of her friends as well. Truly a perfect opportunity. She intends to take full advantage of it.

The café is warm and welcoming; filled with lovely smells and myriad things for the animals to play both on and with. It's delightful. She loves it. There was nothing quite like it in Amaurot. And, seeing the cats scamper about, Hemera sincerely hopes she remembers her time in Havenwell, for her home could certainly use a place like this.

She manages to maintain a semblance of dignity right up until one of the felines rubs against her leg, at which point she immediately crouches down to pat the creature and coo adoring compliments toward it in the otherworldly, song-like language of Amaurot. She lets it play with the hem of her cloak until she Creates a bit of string to play with instead, completely forgetting her original purpose in the face of such utter cute. ]

[This definitely wasn't his home in Lunatia or his home back in his own world. Was he ported into some other world or was this something Prismatica did again? He really hoped it was the second, but something felt weird. Namely, he didn't feel the chroma flow he had gotten so accustomed to.

Ren looks around in the place he just appeared in, wondering where to start looking for answers and maybe finding a way to maybe return to Lunatia if that was possible.

Or if he could find people he knew. That would also be great.

[Della's none too happy when she shows up. She's supposed to be at home with her kids, planning out their next adventure! She should be right there by their side, not... here!

She gives herself a moment to be angry. To yell, to stomp at the ground, to throw her hat, to wipe away frustrated tears. To seethe over the fact that this happened to her again.

Then she gets to work. She doesn't know how to get out of here yet, as she has no rocket parts, but she'll surely find one. She's a mother on a mission, and so she can found at every district, exploring the place, trying to see if there's a way she can build a rocket again. She has no guide with her this time, but she spent ten years learning how to build one, surely she can do it again! And hopefully take even less time!]

[When she's not trying to find a way out, Della's following the way the world works. So she just has to touch people, right? Get all physically affectionate?

Well, that's no problem for her. Residents new and old will find a duck approaching them, then taking their hand with a big smile.]

Of course, once the robots (there were robots?!) explained things to him, Ryuu couldn't help but frown a little.]

[ To say that Rick is rattled would be understating it. For starters, he doesn't know how he got to this weird and very strange world, but he's also dealing with the fact that he's just seen two people from his group of fellow survivors die, and brutally at that.

At first, he's just wandering around shell-shocked, but eventually his senses return, and he starts actually approaching people, trying to figure out what he's been dropped into. ]

[ Hopefully the person (or persons, since he has several questions) he stops doesn't mind Rick's rather grubby appearance, or the fact that there's dirt and maybe a little blood on his clothes. It's definitely not a great first impression, but he would have changed his clothes if he had the choice. ]

[ There's a teenager who may look and sound familiar to a ninja no longer present in Havenwell. He's cuter smaller, more expressive, and overall brighter in appearance and person than his Sengoku counterpart. Despite some low self-esteem brought about from high school crazy, it turns out not living to serve only one person does wonders for one's self-image. (Though Yukimura is still his BFF)

Sasuke also doesn't know how he's ended up here, but he seems to be taking many pictures with the communication device he found. ]

[ It's been a bit since Kyoko's actually seen Sasuke, and she hasn't actually heard that he's not around anymore, so when she catches sight of this young man in the street, the familiar parts of his aspect hit a lot harder than the unfamiliar ones, at least at first glance. She's just run up with a cheery grin and a little wave, eager to compliment his new wardrobe! Because that's the notable thing here! This man has finally, finally acquired some new clothes for himself! ]

[A tall, imposing, one-eyed man in red is one of the ghosts that materialises suddenly. It's a disorienting experience, but he takes his time to look around his surroundings, and he realises he's nowhere he recognises. This certainly isn't the Farplane, nor Zanarkand, nor Spira.

He can only laugh. A dark, bitter, humourless laugh, as if he can't quite believe what he's seeing. It's only when he has a chance to compose himself again that he speaks.]

My story does not yet have an end, it seems.

[After getting the lay of the city, checking out the temples, and talking to a few locals, Auron decides next to go to the wall. He doesn't bother trying to scale it; although he's curious, getting chased off by guards would be more hassle than it's worth. He does, however, press a hand against it, and when he hears someone approaching, tosses a question over his shoulder.]

You. What can you tell me about this?

[Her eyes flick to the man and then at the wall before she gives a faint shrug. She was still getting use to the city so he, unfortunately, ended up with the wrong miqo'te.]

Good stonework? [She gives her cheek a thoughtful scratch as she looks up at it, eyes catching the flicker of the rainbow barrier.] Although, the priest at Ainea's temple told me that it keeps all the toxicity and monsters outside the city along with that barrier from the gods. That's really all I've gotten about it, I haven't asked much otherwise.

Cloud and Tifa | Final Fantasy VII Remake | OTA

[Cloud is not a fan of ghosts. He’s not nervous of them enough to panic and run away and he will fight them off if he has to. But they are more likely to make him draw his sword more quickly.

Furthermore, he’s been aware of them going around and moving stuff. So when he goes to the botanic garden, he cannot help but be very jumpy when he hears footsteps. And suddenly, without warning, he is knocked over to the ground!

His heart beating fast, he places his hands, about to throw the ghost off him when suddenly he realises he is face to face with familiar red eyes and long dark hair…] Huh?!

[He stops immediately. He’d recognise that face anywhere. But during his time here, he never thought he’d see…]

…..Tifa?!

[Everyone say hello to Tifa Lockhart, whose intro was landing on her friend and sticking to him. Replies will come from both Cloud and peerlessofpullups unless you just want one or the other!]

[ Well, she's most certainly confused. She had just seen Cloud just a second ago now she's crashing into him?

She pulls back a bit, trying to get herself straightened out. ]

Genesis Rhapsodos | Final Fantasy VII

Arrival

[Well, now that he was aware that those from his world were, in fact, alive and well, Genesis decided it might be best that he made himself scarce for the time being. It had been easy enough to do, having done so for several years by now before he sealed himself away. While he was loathe to do so, it also helped that he modified his clothes. It certainly helped that he was not among the first arrivals since there were clothes shops here. Not that he was particularly fond of the fashion but he found something plain enough to suit his needs for now.

He left the the most identifiable pieces of clothes in the free housing for now and as this place seemed largely free of conflict, his sword was left there as well. He needed to not be ID'd so easily, after all, and given more time to think about what to do because it was still an inevitability. He would be foolish to think he could avoid his former allies for long. But he could try for a little while. Ahh, his hair at grown quite a bit too, hadn't it? It took but a moment and it was braided and out of the way over his shoulder, the bulk of it covering his earring.

Now, with his materia bracelet still clasped on his wrist, dressed in a simple shirt, pants, and boots, Genesis took to exploring the new area that a sweeping wind had apparently rolled through. It brought much lush vegetation, beautiful flora and fauna creeping over the long abandoned ruins. It was beautiful, really. Likely what the Planet would become one day once humanity slowly died off. Or perhaps they'll live on, Genesis would find out whenever he awoke back home. His boots crunched on the gravel, hands in his pockets and one large black wing tucked against his left shoulder blade. Out here, he shouldn't run into too many and flight made things just a touch easier.

Let's see how long that luck lasts, hm? He heard footsteps and he crouched down on top of a particularly high, ruined observatory.

Guess it didn't last long at all, did it? Ah, well. Win some, lose some. Now, did whomever come out notice Genesis? He waited to find out.]

[She had also taken to exploring the area, though she certainly did not look dressed for the part. If not for her two-toned hair that went down to her feet (golden blonde on top turning into a fiery red past her shoulders), she's also wearing a dress that went all the way to the ground. Also heels but lets not get into that.

All things that might normally make traveling the landscape difficult. She seemed to carry no trouble though for various reasons mostly related to her being, in fact, a magical girl. She had considered transforming, but nothing seemed particularly dangerous. Other than her hair possibly getting caught in something at some point, she'll probably have very little issues with the surroundings. Maybe.

She does however, suddenly stop walking as she nears where Genesis is lurking. She hadn't actually seen him, but all life carries with it a sort of shine and she could tell something is around. Crimson-eyed gaze snaps around the area.]

[When one has her life taken and returned so abruptly, what else would there be to do but to return to what she's always known? They may not be her gods, but Lunafreya wishes to pay her respects all the same, and she finds herself at the Temple of Ainea, fingers laced and head bent in front of the altar in prayer. If she's in the way, patience or an outright interruption may be the only way to get her to move; she's going to be here for some time yet.

And that's despite what's happening with the temple mice. She's in her long and ornate Oracle dress and high heels, so it's all too easy for one of the rats to trip her. It happens more than once, in fact. Sometimes she catches herself on someone's arm or a nearby piece of furniture. Other times she tumbles down completely. It's after the fifth instance that her good-natured smile gets a little wry, and she reaches out for the helping hand in front of her.]

Something tells me that the familiars of the god of compassion don't normally act like this. They seem oddly determined that I stay on the ground.

ii. rest and reflect

[Of all the singularly unique situations this world has presented her with, by far the most singular of all of them is that she is absolutely, without a doubt, a stranger to everyone across the land. There is nobody stopping to ask her for healing or a prayer or a blessing, nobody fawning over her or crowding to see her— nobody at all. Her responsibilities in Eos are inconsequential here, and she is simply Lunafreya instead of the Oracle.

She cuts a striking figure, so she'll be easy to spot in the entertainment district, taking the most leisurely walk she's had in a long, long time. Eventually, her people-watching and pensive thoughts will bring her to the library, where she'll sequester herself in a corner to read an almost comically large stack of books. Seeing someone in the corner of her eye, she murmurs apologetically:]

Were you looking to take one? Please, by all means, be my guest. I'm afraid was overambitious in my choices.

[She can also be found at one of the cafes, listening to the poetry readings and perhaps even jotting down something of her own on a napkin...until a strong gust of wind blows it away as she leans back to think. With a small gasp she slides out of her seat to chase after it.]

[Not entirely unrecognizable by everyone, which she'll find when Noctis sets free an undignified noise at the sight of her by one of the outdoor cafes as he passes in the street. He practically trips over the chairs and tables in the way as he hurries over to her, like he can't believe she's real.]

[ "I'm sorry. I'm not - very good at being with others, so...."

He'd taken the coward's way out. He'd rejected something because it was easier, again. Why? Because he was scared, waking up in another new world without Wormmon? Because he couldn't help but think about how he wasn't able to warn his parents?

No. Not just those. If Ken is honest with himself, it's because the idea of being chosen for something, being singled out, still appeals to him. Yet what he'd been told he was here to do intimidated him. He even understands its importance! He's so happy to have more people in his life!

But a world relying on him to open up? There's that pressure again. Ken's not sure what to make of that. And he definitely, overall, above everything, doesn't understand. These gods - chose him? For this?

Given everything that's ever happened to him, why pick him?

Ken ducks into the closest alley or nook he can find, shoulders tense and trembling. He messed this up. He had a chance to ask questions, and he didn't take it.

His hands clench at his sides. He struggles to set his expression. This isn't helping. There are things he has to do now.

But he can't help it. Tears leak out. ]

Why me.....?

[ II. ]

Wormmon!

[ Ken has sorted through his emotional turmoil. Reality isn't going to go away just because he wants it to. So his first step to figuring out how he wants to move forward is to confirm he's really here by himself, that Wormmon hadn't woken up in a separate room. Everything starts from there.

And he can't do that just by himself. So the denizens of Havenwell may find themselves abruptly approached by a sixth-grade boy with oddly solemn eyes for his age jogging up to them. And asking a brusque, awkward, but urgent question. ]

Excuse me.

Have you seen - a monster?

[ Gods help him if he chose someone affected by the month's influence. Ken doesn't know about THAT yet.... ]

[Honestly, what Havenwell's asking for out of the people it's bringing in is a lot. There probably wouldn't be many people around who could blame anyone in particular for having a tough time bearing with it, least of all Shinji.

Not that he'd be able to guess what exactly is haunting this poor kid right off the bat! Regardless, it would be pretty difficult of him to just ignore the glimpse he caught of someone so clearly distressed, not to mention it would be awfully callous of him. It would only be right of him to try and help out, or at the very least offer.... some kind of reassurance? Maybe. Hopefully.

He's still pretty sure he's not equipped for that kind of thing, but he should at least try.]

[Someone is particularly unhappy to be here. A man dressed in all black, with silver hair and a seemingly permanent scowl on his face is exploring the town, and getting more irritated by the second. Should your character approach him, perhaps even try to offer him a friendly handshake for some quick Dora or just to say hello, his scowl will only intensify.]

Touch me with that and I will cut it off.

[ Pyra can be found just about anywhere in Havenwell. Find her in the botanical gardens, the central fountain, or by Rawna's temple.

Alternatively, she can be out and about with her hawk named Horus, a companion she had inherited from someone who has since left this city, one who she hopes to see again.

A. Walking around

What is usually a trickle of new residents starts early and quickly becomes a flood. It's a welcome change from the strangeness of the rest of the month. Ardbert's glad he's the outgoing sort, so he makes himself available and looks for new faces in the crowd.

"New here?" Ardbert smiles at a new face, holding out his hand. "Hello, I'm Ardbert."


B. Walking around with a friend

Sometimes, there's an addition to that spiel. "And this is my friend, Seto. Don't worry, he's friendly, just big."

His hand rests on the side of the large creature's neck. Seto does his best to appear a little smaller (helped by the fact he's made slightly smaller because of this place) and sits down.


C. Walking around with a friend and meeting friends (Established CR)

Ardbert catches sight of someone he knows and waves at them to catch their attention. Seto, at his side, turns his head and neck to find the person Ardbert's waving to. When Ardbert starts walking to them, he follows a few steps behind.

"Is it just me, or do we have a few new people around?" Ardbert asks, eyes twinkling with mirth; it's more than just a few.

Record scratch. She blinked green eyes at him in shock once she turned to process who had spoken to her, clearly having all kinds of bluescreen problems. Her tail bristled in surprise, ears swiveling forward.

A -- Approach Sephiroth

[ Sephiroth has a lot on his mind after everything that has happened recently. He wants to be alone to process it all and that is why he can be found at The Arena. Find him considering the view from on top of a pillar or performing elaborate sword maneuvers to clear his mind.

Alternatively, he may be found at any of the city’s libraries or Verstael’s Information Center, his usual favorite haunts. Doing what else? More research, of course. He will either be in the stacks gathering books or seated at a table with his bounty. ]

[During one of Sephiroth's trip to one of the libraries, he'll find nothing unusual -- at least not at first. A particular moment he pulls a book from the shelf he'll notice two eyes staring out from the shadows of the surrounding books. Sideways of course because it is such a narrow space.

Eyes that are strangely similar to his in both color and general appearance. But surely there isn't enough room for anything to fit behind the book and if he looks closely he'll find that it is indeed just two eyes. Two eyes that then seemingly float out towards him. An overly large grin fades into view. Still sideways.]

It is rather dusty around here. Books should learn how to better take care of themselves.

[It is only then that the head and rest of the body appears. That of a larger than normal cat. Only silver and teal.
