❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

• a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  
• we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  
• anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  
• characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  
• you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  
• check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

• players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  
• network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  
• any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  
• Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

[Ardyn, meanwhile, had been doing a lot of minding his own business where Ignis was concerned; he’d needed space and time to process things, and that was more than reasonable.]

[But it wasn’t like he could leave well enough alone at this point, gods forbid the poor guy and his cat companion be stranded in the middle of the cafe.]

There’s an open seat over here—I was about to leave momentarily, if that should set you more at ease.

[ He hadn't expected to run into Ardyn again so soon, not while he's still trying to process everything. He's still a bit angry about what Ardyn's done, but this is one that hasn't done anything.

He's family to Noctis and he's made a promise to try to be civil to the guy. ]

A moment. [ he moves in Ardyn's general direction, from the sound of his voice. ] I'd like to hear what you have to say.

Oh—very well, then. I have little else but time.

[He stood up and pulled out a chair across the table from him, audible enough to be sought out even with one’s arms full of cat.]

Whatever it is you wish to know, I will explain as best I can.

[ upon hearing the chair moving, Ignis moves towards it - until he bonks into it. he doesn't lose his footing thankfully. he shifts one hand off the cat and feels around for the back of the seat so he can situate himself properly into it. He lets the cat drop into his lap and it curls up there. ]

For starters, what were you doing before you came to this world? [ he's heard things from Noctis, but perhaps hearing it out of Ardyn will cement things better too. ]

...I was in Niflheim.

He curled both hands around a half-empty cup of coffee, eyes downcast as he spoke.]

I’d been in Angelgard since my brother’s reign began—Verstael told me the year was 721, so well before any of you were born. Regis’ father sat the Lucian throne at the time, I think. Either way, I had only been there for a few months before I awoke here.

... I see. [ he's been told Ardyn's full name and that's he's immortal, among other things. he's not going to reveal what Noctis told him though. ]

Do you know anything about what's to come? [ he's not sure what all he knows, but has to know that something terrible is in his future at some point. ]

...I am aware of the broad strokes between my time and Noctis’ own; I know what I’m to become, and I know how things are ordained to end.

[That was the most he would say about his and Noctis’ fate—as the one with far less to lose, it wasn’t his place to speak on in detail and betray whatever his nephew kept to himself.]

[ he knows.

This stuns Ignis a lot more than he anticipated. his drops his gaze down to the cat, not really looking at it as he considers the words that he just heard. he's not sure if Ardyn knows the full details, especially what went on the altar, or tricking Noctis into pushing Prompto off the train. He knows that he turns out to be an evil guy and yet...

... he exhales a breath. Ardyn seems civil enough to speak properly with Ignis. the fact that he feels like that he's speaking to a different person is just strange. this is not the Ardyn he knows.

Ignis knows about Noctis' fate cause of that vision he had. He knows that Noctis knows too. He doesn't share his feelings on the matter. He's not going to betray Noctis' trust on the matter. ]

... Noct considers you to be family. [ is what he finally gets out. ] I promised to be civil with you. [ he aims to keep it, but if anything should happen to Noctis cause of Ardyn, he'll find it hard to keep that promise. he doesn't voice that, not wanting to make threats. ] Can you tell me how that came to be?

[He knew enough—who had killed Lunafreya, who had the empire dancing on a string to its downfall, and who would have to die to see the world at peace.]

[The last one was something he had been prepared for eons ago. The rest was a little harder to swallow.]

My name, as I told you, is Ardyn Lucis Caelum. Somnus was my younger brother, and of the two of us was I granted a gods-given power I’ve come to learn only Oracles possess in some form now. By my hand and mine alone was the scourge of our star able to be healed by those suffering from it, though my brother and I oft conflicted on how best to protect our world and a kingdom not yet formed.

Ultimately, he betrayed and murdered me, for as much as the latter even applies. I spent two thousand years imprisoned on Angelgard, and a handful of months dealing with Verstael. I had no firsthand insight of the kingdom my brother chose to build upon my corpse, not until I met Regis, you, and Cor when I came here.

[He took a slow breath, pushing his hair out of his face.]

...Things have changed. They were kind to me even knowing what I am—what history calls me. Noctis has been no different, despite knowing what that resentment-fueled monster wearing my face has done to him. I am not yet so far gone to be heartless, and I love them as though we had known one another for a lifetime; Noctis, especially. One chosen to another, I might dare venture far enough to say few understand our respective roles as well as the other.

I know what you must think. But I am not yet a monster, neither do I intend to be.
