Ainea's time has ended and now Diacht's months have arrived. Dianir marks the beginning of the hot summer months with a rise in temperature as well as humidity. With each passing day, spring gives way to summer, and the natives of Havenwell are enjoying the blue skies along with the newly expanded barrier. With the most dangerous of the beasts gone thanks to offworlder help last month, researchers and conservationists head out on occasion into the newly opened areas to continue the work of cataloguing and preserving what they can find. Some take time to study the barrier and some just seem to enjoy being outside the walls for the first time in centuries. Meanwhile, the city within seems to have calmed from Ealom's excitement, settling into its usual routine with only a few…"hiccups."

❥ PROMPT I: Hana-hack-i

With the turning of the seasons, the weather warms up and Diacht's influence grows in strength. 'Tis the season to be honest with one another, because if you aren't, you may begin to feel a tickle in the back of your throat…

For those who have feelings repressed, secrets unaddressed, or maybe just won't confide in a friend when they're feeling depressed, the gods work in mysterious ways. Specifically, in the fact that the offworlders may find themselves coughing up flower petals. Whether petals of plantlife from Havenwell itself or another world entirely, the longer one goes without confessing their troubles or sentiments the more insistent their condition until they might even have trouble getting through a whole sentence without finding a corsage's worth stuck in their mouth. Speaking minor truths will lessen the effect a little at a time, while larger or more impactful ones will work to cure it completely.

While not painful or otherwise physically harmful, the affliction does feel awkward and very likely doesn't taste all that great. Not to mention it's going to be difficult to keep secrets when everyone can see you have a mouthful of flower.

❥ PROMPT II: Uproot of the Spirit

Those offworlders that have been present in Havenwell since the previous June may remember an outbreak of traits and desires not necessarily their own, reflecting the dominion of their associated god instead. With the return of the early summer season, so too do such urges begin to resurface--but not quite in the same fashion.

This time around, things are a bit different--adherents to one god may find themselves with any other god or gods' traits, with one or more applying at once, one and then another on different days, any multitude of combinations apart from those of the deity to which they belong. For example, one under Diacht may have the effects of Rawna one day and Ainea the next, or perhaps Ainea and Ohma both at once, but never contend with Diacht's influence. And while the previous year seemed to deal with the gods' animal natures, it seems this time things are a little different as people begin manifesting extreme versions of their gods' emotional domains.

Ohma: As the god of wisdom, Ohma's influence becomes a desperate and insistent need to exchange knowledge. The affected may ask friends and strangers all manner of questions, ranging from 'where did you get that shirt' to 'how do you like your eggs' and everything in between. In exchange, the affected also wish to share their own information on just about everything they know, whether the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow or the entire plot of a book they read that one time. They simply have to give and seek knowledge to and from whoever they can find.

Ainea: The influence of the god of compassion leads the affected to be almost aggressively kind. Complimenting every little thing those around them might say, do, wear--if it can be spoken kindly about, those under Ainea's influence will do so excessively and well past the point of obnoxious. So too might they feel a compulsion to give gifts to others--specifically, giving away the affected's own possessions. Once the effect wears off, one might even have to track down their new and old friends to get their more important things back...

Diacht: Honor and honesty being Diacht's domain, those affected by them will be incapable of lying. They will be compelled to not only speak the truth, but do so out of obligation no matter how awkward for them or the other party. Even if it means speaking a brutally honest opinion or divulging a carefully hidden secret, so long as the words are true to the affected speaker they will have the urge to share it. To tell a lie or general untruth will make them feel suddenly ill, dispelled only by speaking something truthful instead.

Rawna: Rawna's reasoning takes the forefront of their influence; anyone under their affect will be insistent upon hearing and soothing the emotional hurts of others. They are certain they need to be a listening ear or comforting shoulder to the absolute best of their abilities and beyond--that is to say, they will not only go out of their way to find others' problems, but potentially assume ones exist where they do not. Some dear friends haven't spoken in an entire day? Clearly they had a terrible fight, and it's up to Rawna's affected to fix it.

❥ PROMPT III: 'Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs

Yet another indication that the world is recovering is the reappearance of the Fairy Lights. As the weather turns warmer, these beautiful little insects take to the air for their mating dances at night, dimly and softly glowing like Earth's fireflies or lightning bugs. These tiny little bugs float through the air, flitting about as their bodies pulse with light. The Fairy Lights come in a multitude of colors from red to purple, turning the night into soft rainbows of light. They make their triumphant reappearance in two locations: the botanical gardens and the green belt that grew up where the old wall used to be. Their beautiful displays start once the sun goes down and stop at sunrise, and natives are delighting in their return by taking walks among them.

If offworlders follow suit, they'll notice that the Fairy Lights are attracted to those who come in pairs or more, especially those who engage in sustained positive contact with each other while among them. The Fairy Lights seem to enjoy it when people are touching and will land upon them, one of each color until a rainbow has formed - usually in a crown around the head. Once the rainbow crown of Fairy Lights is complete, that character will feel a pleasant calmness and a feeling of peace and happiness wash over them. For as long as you and your partner(s) are in contact, the Fairy Lights will stay and so will the peace they confer. Once contact is broken, one by one the little insects will fly away, off to find a new perch.

Kai hummed softly in agreement. It really was nice. He watched the slow dance of lights as they dipped and fluttered in the air, tilting his head a little to rest on Shinji’s. As much as he missed a smaller Shinji for certain things, little motions like this were easier.

There was also more of him to hold, which was nice. When Shinji pulled his arms closer, Kai smiled and did his part to hug him a bit more securely. It was the one thing he could do in light of everything else that seemed to be trickling down and worrying. He wasn’t sure what to do in other cases, but if this at least brought Shinji some peace, those arms would stay right there.

“We should do this again. You’ve been doin’ a lot.”

There's a small pang of guilt as Kai says that, a sudden worry that Shinji had been perhaps neglecting him in his pursuit to keep himself busy. He doubts that it was something Kai intended, though, and the warm arms holding on to him don't send such a bitter message, either. Just something for Shinji to keep in mind on top of everything else.

"You and Kyoko have been working hard," he remarks, leaving the implication of 'too' or 'not me' vague. Whether he's been sufficiently earning his keep or successfully distracting himself isn't what's important right now though, don't mind him quietly clearing his throat, because the warm body behind him will stay a pleasant reminder that he's wanted somewhere regardless of all that. "I wonder if we can bring her out here sometime, too."

A magical little break for everyone to enjoy. What a nice thought that is.

Care had been the only intent there. They each had their own established work habits. Just working hard wasn't the issue. Kai had just noticed that this particular amount of busy work usually crept up when something was on Shinji's mind. Kai was just gonna, you know, make himself available. Just in case.

"Mmm... That'd be nice, huh. She's been doin' a whole lot, too." Which hadn't been worrying at first, but as the month went on and things got quieter and quieter between them...

Magical little breaks would be good for all the worry. This one was trying its best, the magic fluttering closer. Who knew there were already drifting in from behind them, a little fairy light landing right there on Shinji's head.

Hello, little bug. Shinji doesn't notice it float over to him, nor does he feel it land on his head. That's fine, though, he wouldn't mind it even if he did.

He leans his head back against Kai's, humming softly in agreement. "We don't have to keep outings like this for special occasions, after all." Nobody needs to have a birthday for late night excursions into the untamed wilds for star and/or fairy watching. Speaking of, here comes another one of those lights, hovering over toward Kai before gently settling on the crown of his head.

Hi there, small friend. Here to chill with your friend? Enjoy.

"Right." Every day was a good day for cozy adventures. That first birthday was impromptu just like this. And that first bit of curry. And many things, really. All very good times.

"It's prettier out here than the roof, for sure." Kai made an amused 'hmmhmm' as the next thought crossed his mind. "Though I do like kissin' you on the roof."

Goodness, Kaito, so forward.

This position means that Kai can't really catch much of a glimpse of the color hitting Shinji's cheeks, though there's probably an extra bit of heat radiating off of him.

"Well," he mumbles quietly, as if someone's at risk of overhearing them if he's too loud. The fairy lights, maybe? Don't listen to this conversation, bugs, it's private. "It's not like that can't happen out here, too."

Kai grinned as Shinji got all mumbly on him. Very cute. Exceedingly endearing. It was this kind of sweet fluster that just encouraged Kaito to be extra forward, even if they had a tiny audience of tiny lights. Of course, it helped that Shinji just went ahead and encouraged it all on his own anyway.

Shy, but also into it? A fantastic combo.

"S'true," Kai said, humoring Shinji by dropping his voice to a low murmur in his ear. "Seems like all you'd have to do is turn around, hmm?"

That is also true! But they're already pretty cozy as they are, Shinji genuinely liking having the steady presence at his back, with that warm voice right at his ear. One of those comfortable advantages the height-boost had given him, and maybe required a bit more indulging in while the opportunity is here.

So, he hesitates for a bit, bashfulness and coziness making an appealing argument to stay right there, but after a moment he lifts one hand away from hugging Kai's arms. Here, let him use that hand to hold Kai's face and twist around juuuust enough to plant a kiss on the opposite cheek. It would be pretty easy to meet him for a more substantial smooch from here, huh?

Oh. That was also an option, yes. Kai blinked at the touch of Shinji's hand, and then his eyes were crinkling in delight as the other boy played his sneaky smoochy trick. Now who was being forward? Kai chuckled softly, giving Shinji's middle a fond squeeze.

It really was pretty easy to work with this though. Another little boon from Shinji's new vantage point that Kai was really appreciating right now. He only had to turn his head a little bit to catch up with him, pressing that promised smooch to Shinji's lips with a happy hum.

How many little friends had joined them while they were distracted? Better not to think about it. It was still a private conversation, gosh.

There we go! A proper smooch, all in the safety of a nice, quiet patch of green. The only ones around to see it are those bugs, which, as long as they're not going to go around tattling on them to everyone, well. They can stay.

Stay on their noggins, that is. Shinji pulls back from the smooch with a gentle smile tugging on his lips, though his eyes are quickly drawn up to the lights settled on Kai's head. Ahh, how cute...

"Mmm, looks like you have some new friends."

A cozy little smooch to chase away those worries of neglect. He was fine, look at that sappy grin on his face.

"Hmm?" Kai lifted his eyes as if he could see what Shinji meant. The friends on his own head were impossible to see, but it was hard to miss the ones sharing their friendly glow from Shinji's hair.

"Hohh, I'm not the only one."

What a downright charming smile. How could he possibly stay worried with such a reassuring sight right in front of him?

The idea that he's got some visitors is a bit of a surprise, though. He pulls his hand back from cradling Kai's cheek, reaching up but not quite touching his hair, as if that's going to give away the location of those bugs taking a rest on his head. "Really...?" He doesn't want to shoo them off, but gosh, they want to hang out with him, too? Gosh.

Kai chuckled. "Uh-huh."

The motion did get the bugs to rearrange themselves a little, but they stayed right there. In fact, there was one more gently landing among its friends.

"They look extra pretty in your hair." That soft rainbow really stuck out on those dark shades.

He lowers his hand, letting it come back to rest against Kai's arm as he glances back up to see the light show beginning on the other's head as well. Ahhh, that's really, really cute.

"Dunno, I think maybe a golden stage is really nice for them. Lets them shine nice and bright."

"Hmmm," Kai pondered playfully.

"S'not quite the starry sky you've got," he went on, leaning in to boop his nose with his, "but I guess I can see the appeal."

The cute boop earns a soft chuckle from Shinji, who follows it up with a quick peck to Kai's lips. A sweet little gesture to reward a sweet sentiment. If Kai's willing to accept the compliment, then maybe Shinji shouldn't brush off those kind words so quickly, either.

"Maybe you've got a point, too." They can both be good bug backdrops. "Just think this is a nice look for you."

Kai's eyes crinkled a bit, feeling extra warm and delighted with all these charming motions.

"Too bad they probably won't follow us home," he chuckled. "Guess I'll just have to admire you while we're here."

Admire him, not admire them, gosh... Those lights meandering around his head sure would make it easier to see the blush warming Shinji's cheeks this time, even as he turns away slightly to mumble, "You really are too good to me."

The bashfulness only lasts for so long, though, and he swiftly follows that comment up with, "We can stay out here for however long you want. These kinds of moments with you... I want to etch them into my heart."

Gosh, that was sweet, Shinji.

Kai had been chuckling softly over that bashful reaction, but tables were turned faster than Kai could have anticipated. That was sweet, Shinji. Kai squeezed him close, dipping his head to press a kiss against his shoulder. Now who was too much, huh?

It didn't stop Kai from brushing his hand up over Shinji's chest, laying it warmly right there over the boy's heart. "We'll fill it right up."

There it is, Shinji's heart, beating nice and strong under Kai's hand.

"I think we've been doing a good job," he says softly, fondly. These days he's spent in Havenwell are truly valuable, worth holding as close as he can. Just like Kai's hand, which Shinji covers with his own. Keep that right there for now. Perfect.

"You, too," he adds, tipping his head back just a touch to rub lightly against Kai's. "I want to give you all sorts of times to treasure."

Kai smiled against his shoulder with that cute rub. "Mm, you've given me so many."

More than he could count. More than he'd ever reasonably expect from anyone at all. It was obvious enough to Kai that the boy in his arms was the real treasure at hand.

"Turns out I'm greedy though," Kai went on, his smile even more clear in his voice. "So I'll take all of 'em."

So greedy, wanting all of the nice memories and experiences. A true criminal, that Kaito.

"As many as you want." No matter how many that might be, Shinji will be more than happy to keep supplying him with opportunities for good times. "You can be as greedy as you want, I'll do whatever it takes to keep up with you."

Better send him back to jail.

"Guess I'll help myself then," Kai hummed. Here he goes, lifting his head to press another smooch just there under the little lights on Shinji's head. "Neither of us will need to keep up if we're sticking side by side tho."

"I guess that's true," he relents, leaning gently into the smooch and somehow feeling extra assured about that promise right now. How nice, how very, very nice. "My point still stands, though. You've made me happier than I thought I could ever be, so I'm all yours."

"Good."

To all those things, really. "Making you happy's the goal. This is real valuable feedback."
