❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

• a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  
• we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  
• anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  
• characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  
• you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  
• check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

• players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  
• network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  
• any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  
• Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

[Again so dismissive. She raises a hand towards the sky. A small yellow orb of energy forms on the tip of her finger before shooting off into the sky. With a downward sweep of her arm, lightning strikes the ground in front of him.

Not close enough to hit him, but enough to make a point. She actually considered out right striking him, but that would prove that he's getting to her and she can't have that.]

Do you often run away at the moment inconvenience strikes?

[silversoldier]

[ Sephiroth doesn't so much as flinch at the non-issue. What he does do is elevate her potential in his own mind by a fraction. That and pause for a moment.

Pause and turn.

He regards her for a moment of clear and silent appraisal before approaching her with slow and measured steps. Sephiroth doesn't stop until he is practically on top of her, his long silver hair trailing between their bodies almost close enough for her to touch. Vibrant green eyes meet her own, though he remains cool and expressionless. ]

Well? You have my attention which you so badly wanted.

[superstring]

[Galaxia does not back away at his approach regardless of how close he gets. Her eyes trail up to meet his gaze, only now noting the fierce intensity of his eyes. Green and like that of a Mauian though he hardly seems like someone from that world.

Her expression also remains cool and collected with perhaps a small hint of a smirk. She did get him to turn around after all. Though the idea that she's somehow clamoring for his attention is laughable.

Amazingly enough this whole interaction has managed to off set her earlier foul mood. He is, at least, something of a distraction.]

Consider it curiosity. What planet do you call home?

[silversoldier]

[ Sephiroth is so used to people clamoring for his attention. Demanding things of him. Asking him questions. He sees nothing different here, only the place. Hmm...and perhaps her eyes. He notices their unique red color. ]

Gaia. And?

[ She'll learn, just as everyone does, that he is not the freest with information. ]

[superstring]

As I said: curiosity. Your eyes aren't commonly found on most worlds. I would have thought Mau if you had more traits like a cat.

[Gaia isn't a planet she is familiar with, and she has been to many, many worlds. Another galaxy perhaps?

Always a possibility. And honestly she hasn't noticed until he walked up, the question was more geared around her internally admitting that there is some air of strength behind him and wondering what would he might possibly come from.]

[silversoldier]

Is that so? Are you saying I'm unique?

[ All SOLDIERs have the mako glow, but his eyes have always set him apart from the others. A physical difference, just like his hair, that points to his special existence. Not that he shares any of these personal thoughts with her. He has already pointed out enough. ]

[superstring]

Unusual. Never said unique.

[But there is that glow to them thats kind of interesting and almost barely realizes she's been staring into his eyes for far too long of a moment.]

Are other people on your planet like you?

[Annoying ... overly smug ... massive ego ...]

[silversoldier]

I told you already. There is no one like me.

[ Sephiroth doesn't react but he does notice her getting lost in his eyes. ]

Our individual power is what makes us unique. Most hold none or so little it does not matter. What makes you so different from everyone else?

[Since he's so determined to hold onto that idea.]

[silversoldier]

Then you have your answer.

[ Unlike her, Sephiroth has no need to diminish others or brag about himself when the goal is to verbally set himself apart. Such are the petty ways of those lacking in confidence and he is no such person. He simply is the best. Nor is Sephiroth after fame or recognition. In fact, the one good thing about Havenwell is the anonymity it affords him.

There is also no need for him to elaborate on his other differences because he quite simply, as with most other people, does not care what she thinks. The only reason he is even engaging with her is because he sees her as a potential sparring partner and he has learned those require extra effort and care to cultivate.

All of this comes across in the utter certainty in Sephiroth's tone and in the brevity of his answer. ]

[superstring]

[This man is one of the most frustrating people she's ever run across. Even Sailor Moon with all her talks about the power of love and friendship pales in comparison.

How can any one person have this much of an ego?? She totally fails to see the irony of it all.

It's good no one recognizes her here either as people's reactions would probably not be very good.]

Who are you?

[silversoldier]

Sephiroth.

[ There is a small pause where he seems to weigh something, that being, of course, what level of nicety the situation warrants. In truth, he often forgets the specifics of situations like this as people have historically come to him so this is still somewhat foreign. The flip-side of that anonymity, as it were. ]

And you?

[superstring]

Galaxia.

[Honestly she's not very good in these kind of social situations either. She has no problems giving her name, but this level of civil conversation is very awkward for her.

Which is why there is an uneasy sort of pause before:]

You have been in this place awhile?

[silversoldier]

[ Sephiroth inclines his head in acknowledgement. ]

Over two months now.

[ Has it been this long already? He feels as though he has been on a mission this entire time so it has, understandably, flown. ]

[superstring]

[Hm. He does not seem like the type to allow himself to be caged so easily. That makes everything slightly concerning. Who were these gods who've managed to trap people so easily?]

So what does that make everyone here? Slaves to the needs of these so called gods?

[silversoldier]

In so many words. However, it is more about the exchange of energy, making us akin to human batteries. [ Sephiroth's opinion of her rises a little more. She is the first person he has met who has shared his exact thoughts. ] Many of the fools here are only too happy to be of service.

[superstring]

Why? Do people get anything in exchange for their service?

[Even Galaxia gave power to those who swore an oath to her. Power in exchange for becoming her slave so to speak. But batteries?? What does he mean by that.]

If there's nothing in return then they are slaves. Even if they are doing so willingly.

[silversoldier]

Money. Or the release from some effect imposed by these inept beings. I was afflicted with someone else's memory at one point.

[ It all sounds far too ridiculous when said aloud. ]

[superstring]

Wait.

[It doesn't sound as ridiculous as it could be at least.]

They cast aliments of some kind and in order to get rid of it you have do as they wish? And people agree to this willingly why ...?

[Considering she can screw with someone's head and have them see illusions or dreams it isn't out of the realm of possibility. But the idea that people are simply agreeable to this ... she doesn't understand people at all.]

[silversoldier]

People do not agree to the ailments themselves. Nor was anyone brought here willingly. [ At least, he doesn't have any evidence to suggest such yet--though sometimes he does wonder. ]

[superstring]

Why not disobey the gods?

[Which seems like a natural idea to her. Fight back against them. Destroy those who dared to do this.

Of course this is all kinds of ironic considering her oppressive empire. But that's also the point. No one should be able to do this to her.]

[silversoldier]

What exactly do you think I've been doing? [ Oh, yes. Sephiroth understands exactly what she meant by that. His eyes seem to burn in their intensity before he takes a proverbial step back. ] Things are not that simple. It will take time.

[superstring]

How am I to know what you have or have not been doing?

[Watching him, she folds her arms across her chest.]

Though with the way your ego speaks, I am not surprised you would defy others. But what do you mean by it not being simple? Is your power not enough?

[Is that a dig at him? Maybe. At its a remark about how arrogant he seems]

[silversoldier]

[ As always, her insults garner no visible results. Sephiroth merely inclines his head the slightest bit. ]

If it was as simple as that they would already be dead. [ He says this matter-of-factly, with all the confidence in the world. ] As one-dimensional as you are, it has likely not occurred to you that there are many complex factors to research and consider first.

[superstring]

[Or he could simply not be as powerful as he thinks he is. That is actually her first thought as she stares at him for a moment.

He's so annoying with these constant insults. If only he knew what she was capable of.]

You really shouldn't assume so much about those you do not know anything about.
