❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

• a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  
• we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  
• anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  
• characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  
• you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  
• check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

• players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  
• network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  
• any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  
• Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

Our individual power is what makes us unique. Most hold none or so little it does not matter. What makes you so different from everyone else?

[Since he's so determined to hold onto that idea.]

Then you have your answer.

[ Unlike her, Sephiroth has no need to diminish others or brag about himself when the goal is to verbally set himself apart. Such are the petty ways of those lacking in confidence and he is no such person. He simply is the best. Nor is Sephiroth after fame or recognition. In fact, the one good thing about Havenwell is the anonymity it affords him.

There is also no need for him to elaborate on his other differences because he quite simply, as with most other people, does not care what she thinks. The only reason he is even engaging with her is because he sees her as a potential sparring partner and he has learned those require extra effort and care to cultivate.

All of this comes across in the utter certainty in Sephiroth's tone and in the brevity of his answer. ]

[This man is one of the most frustrating people she's ever run across. Even Sailor Moon with all her talks about the power of love and friendship pales in comparison.

How can any one person have this much of an ego?? She totally fails to see the irony of it all.

It's good no one recognizes her here either as people's reactions would probably not be very good.]

Who are you?

Sephiroth.

[ There is a small pause where he seems to weigh something, that being, of course, what level of nicety the situation warrants. In truth, he often forgets the specifics of situations like this as people have historically come to him so this is still somewhat foreign. The flip-side of that anonymity, as it were. ]

And you?

[superstring]

Galaxia.

[Honestly she's not very good in these kind of social situations either. She has no problems giving her name, but this level of civil conversation is very awkward for her.

Which is why there is an uneasy sort of pause before:]

You have been in this place awhile?

[silversoldier]

[ Sephiroth inclines his head in acknowledgement. ]

Over two months now.

[ Has it been this long already? He feels as though he has been on a mission this entire time so it has, understandably, flown. ]

[superstring]

[Hm. He does not seem like the type to allow himself to be caged so easily. That makes everything slightly concerning. Who were these gods who've managed to trap people so easily?]

So what does that make everyone here? Slaves to the needs of these so called gods?

[silversoldier]

In so many words. However, it is more about the exchange of energy, making us akin to human batteries. [ Sephiroth's opinion of her rises a little more. She is the first person he has met who has shared his exact thoughts. ] Many of the fools here are only too happy to be of service.

[superstring]

Why? Do people get anything in exchange for their service?

[Even Galaxia gave power to those who swore an oath to her. Power in exchange for becoming her slave so to speak. But batteries?? What does he mean by that.]

If there's nothing in return then they are slaves. Even if they are doing so willingly.

[silversoldier]

Money. Or the release from some effect imposed by these inept beings. I was afflicted with someone else's memory at one point.

[ It all sounds far too ridiculous when said aloud. ]

Wait.

[It doesn't sound as ridiculous as it could be at least.]

They cast aliments of some kind and in order to get rid of it you have do as they wish? And people agree to this willingly why ...?

[Considering she can screw with someone's head and have them see illusions or dreams it isn't out of the realm of possibility. But the idea that people are simply agreeable to this ... she doesn't understand people at all.]

[silversoldier]

People do not agree to the ailments themselves. Nor was anyone brought here willingly. [ At least, he doesn't have any evidence to suggest such yet--though sometimes he does wonder. ]

Why not disobey the gods?

[Which seems like a natural idea to her. Fight back against them. Destroy those who dared to do this.

Of course this is all kinds of ironic considering her oppressive empire. But that's also the point. No one should be able to do this to her.]

[silversoldier]

What exactly do you think I've been doing? [ Oh, yes. Sephiroth understands exactly what she meant by that. His eyes seem to burn in their intensity before he takes a proverbial step back. ] Things are not that simple. It will take time.

[superstring]

How am I to know what you have or have not been doing?

[Watching him, she folds her arms across her chest.]

Though with the way your ego speaks, I am not surprised you would defy others. But what do you mean by it not being simple? Is your power not enough?

[Is that a dig at him? Maybe. At its a remark about how arrogant he seems]

[silversoldier]

[ As always, her insults garner no visible results. Sephiroth merely inclines his head the slightest bit. ]

If it was as simple as that they would already be dead. [ He says this matter-of-factly, with all the confidence in the world. ] As one-dimensional as you are, it has likely not occurred to you that there are many complex factors to research and consider first.

[Or he could simply not be as powerful as he thinks he is. That is actually her first thought as she stares at him for a moment.

He's so annoying with these constant insults. If only he knew what she was capable of.]

You really shouldn't assume so much about those you do not know anything about.

[silversoldier]

[ Galaxia has spent the vast majority of their time making implicit or explicit reference to how powerful she is and following up with yet more talk implying a general lack of finesse. ]

I'm sure I will [ not ] see you around Verstael's Information Center then, ready and willing to prove me wrong.

[Meanwhile Sephiroth here lacks tact all together. And is just insulting for no reason.]

Is that what you're doing? Seeking out information there? What are you even attempting to find out?

[silversoldier]

What else? A way home. It is not so simple as merely traversing space. [ If only. ] There is also an element of time involved, and possibly dimensional travel.

[superstring]

[Hmm. She actually breaks her gaze away and stares off towards the ground. Thinking. At first she had considered the possibility of this simply being a world in another galaxy. That might explain why everything felt different and why her powers ...

Also did not feel as they should.

But the rest if that could explain a lot as well, though she's not sure what he expects to find about the subject in books. If that sort of knowledge is just lying around surely it'd have been utilized already. Unless everyone here lacks the ability to do so.]

Traveling through space-time is a simple task, you only need a key. Obtaining one would be difficult however.

[Almost impossible but not out of the realm of possibility.]

If we are in another dimensional plane, well ... that depends on where exactly this place resides.

[ And with that, Sephiroth is interested. Or, at least, more interested than he was before. Anyone who can be of assistance in getting him home is worth talking to, and she does have some measure of power to back up her words. ]

You are able to accomplish such a thing here?

[superstring]

[Oh look suddenly he seems interested in talking with her. Guess he must really want to get back to wherever he's come from. Too bad that while she also wants to escape this place, she also isn't sure he's even deserving of her assistance.

He's full of himself and she fails to see how that'd be of any help to her.]

I don't know what the full effect this place has on my full abilities. But I could use a time key if we were able to obtain one.

[Though technically all anyone needs is the key to use it.. Which would mean finding the guardian of space-time and well, last she saw Galaxia had killed her so ...]

The door of space-time could most likely be used to cross the boundaries of many things ... Probably other worlds.

[ Sounds like she does have some potential use then. Although, this might just be more of her sounding off about how powerful she is. He'll take it with a grain of salt. ]

How would we obtain one?

[superstring]

[Well, that might be a problem all things considered, but he doesn't need to know what she's done so.]

We'd have to find a Guardian of Space-Time. Like I said that would be the difficult part. Or since there are supposedly something like gods here, hope that one has some connection to Chronos who is said to be the god of time.
