September Intro Mingle Log
Welcome to Hugtopia, and to the city of Havenwell. This mingle is meant for new arrivals to get settled and meet the other inhabitants. New characters should be the only top-levels but everyone should feel free to tag around and make new friends. Who knows, you may find that Perfect Hug in here. You can use the prompts here, or create a wildcard of your own.

ICly, this takes place from the 2nd to the 16th and then we'll have a shiny new event post up for you all soon after that date range. The prompts below are optional, but are a way to get you started if you wish. To help you create your own prompts, please take a look through our Settings and FAQ. Click on each prompt's title to see the text. If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to the FAQ or to the Mod Question thread below.

❥ PROMPT I: Awakening

When you awaken, you're in the last outfit you remember wearing, three of your belongings laid nearby or your animal friend curled up by you, waking as you do. It's not the most comfortable place to sleep, a stone slab, but once you're awake, a humanoid-looking robot comes in and explains you're in Havenwell and leads you out of the room and into the main portion of the temple where a welcoming committee of similarly humanoid-looking robots hand over a clear smartphone-sized tablet, some starting funds, and explain their dilemma. Then they release you into Havenwell to pick your new home from free housing in the city and give you the chance to settle. It might be a bit disorienting, but thankfully there seem to be a lot of robots and even some non-robots around. Maybe ask them for help?

❥ PROMPT II: Buddy System

With all the changes going on, it might be hard to be a new arrival to Havenwell. The natives understand! Sort of. When some new arrivals begin to appear at the temples, receive the welcome speech, get their communicators and the simple map of the city, they get taken to the front of the temple by a helpful robotic priest. Rather than turn the newcomers loose right away, they pull someone seemingly at random off the street and push the two people together with a cheerful, "Here's your guide to Havenwell! It's dangerous to go alone, so be buddies!" before going back inside.

They try to place a new arrival with one of those who previously arrived, but who can keep track of all that, right? Characters may find themselves thrown together with an actual veteran or with another new arrival who only came here a day or even just an hour before them! Good luck helping each other out, offworlders, and don't lose your buddy!

❥ PROMPT III: Weather Wildcard

Havenwell's weather is generally so well controlled, with beautiful blue skies and temperate climes that it's hard to remember that there's a whole world out there that might not be so nice. Every so often, however, the controls break and something not so nice and temperate comes through. Pockets of unpleasant weather happens all over the city at random intervals and new arrivals might find themselves and others caught without warning. Is that a snowstorm with green snow? Sure is. A windstorm that only seems to affect three streets? Yup. Did a deluge of rain just pour the equivalent of an Olympic sized swimming pool of water on you? Uh-huh, sure did. A deep cold fog that suddenly rolls in and blankets your entire area? Yeeaaah... hopefully there's someone around to help you get about and find shelter or just dry off and get away from it all. Good luck, offworlder.

[Ah, yes, there went the bell. She had started pointing up at him as he had started bowing, so here they were: with the boop of a nose.]

From the Johto League!

[Still very quiet, still very serious... but with feeling.]

[The boop earns a playful nose crinkle, but being recognized sees Will lighting up in surprised excitement.]

Ah--that's right! Are we from the same world?

[Vianca paused thoughtfully.]

I don't think so, but many of my classmates and teachers were from the Pokemon regions.

Oh, really? What school did you go to? I wonder if I know any of them.....

[He's curious, now. Will doesn't think he knows any school aged children, or any teachers..... But who knows? He might be surprised!]

Smash Academy.

[Which... maybe he heard of, if it was the right dimension of Pokemon regions. She knew there were multiples of things, but she also knew that a lot of the pokemon trainers had shown up because they had heard of the school back home. So who knew!]

I believe we had a large fraction of the Kanto League in attendance for a while.

I can't say I've ever heard of it..... And I saw the Kanto Elite almost every day before I came here. How did they never mention something like that?

[It seems like the sort of thing someone would talk about, wouldn't it? At least Bruno would be excited to share his new training regimen, surely! This is too weird, he hasn't even really been properly exposed to the idea of people coming from different time points, let alone different versions of the same world.]

Ah, it was many of the gym leaders. I know Miss Erika made frequent trips back to tend her gym.

[Let her just carefully drop this idea in here for you, Will.]

They could have been from a different Kanto than yours though.

If it was the gym leaders, that would make more sense. I don't see them as often. But what do you mean, a different Kanto?

[Is there some other region with the same name out there? But then, Erika is from Celadon City, so it has to be the Kanto he's familiar with, right?]

I mean a different Kanto.

[That didn't explain anything, but it was just a pause as Vianca thought about how to explain it. She held up her hand, fingers spread out.]

You might be from this Johto. [She gave her pointer finger a wiggle.] While Miss Erika was from another one. [There goes her ring finger.] But you have a different Miss Erika, and my Miss Erika has a different Will.

.....Oh. Okay.

[It really is just as easy as that. Once she explains it that way, he accepts it as Just The Way Things Are without questions or protest. Who from his world doesn't understand the idea of alternate dimensions, after all? Plenty of legends involve them.]

If they're from another dimension, it's no wonder I didn't hear about it. Did you meet a different me at school, too~?

[That's good, because it was exactly Just The Way Things Are. Vianca didn't really know how else to explain it any simpler than that.

She was tilting her head thoughtfully now, giving it an extreme ponder.]

I... think I've seen one of you before, a few years ago. You might have just been visiting?

[She wasn't sure ~~and Bret couldn't find the old Will tag~~.]

I admit I have not spoken to as many actual trainers as I have their Pokemon.

I guess I would be too busy to attend normally..... Hopefully we got along!

[He can easily imagine coming to visit Erika and see how her studies are coming; she's such a sweet girl, after all. He's fond of quite a few of the gym leaders, honestly. Talking to their Pokémon more than the trainers, though--that's intriguing. There's a peek of purple eyebrows lifting over the edge of his mask.]

Why more often than their trainers? Do you understand them?

Because they were students too.

[Of course. Vianca gave a quick glance around the entranceway they were still standing near, spying the seating area. She offered Will her hand again.]

Would you like to sit?

Oh--how nice! I've never heard of a school that's so conscientious about teaching Pokémon too.

[Will graciously accepts Vianca's hand, heading for the seating area. They may as well get comfy, right?]

I'm sure mine will be happy to meet you, too. Only a couple made it here with me though.....

There were many options in place to help students adjust.

[Good, yes, come with her. Sometimes the forbidden knowledge was a little too much for people to handle at first. A seat would be handy. Vianca picked out a cozy looking booth, leading Will over that way.]

Oh... Are the others in your PC?

Options like what?

[Will allows himself to be led readily enough, sliding in after Vianca.]

No, they were all out and about at home..... I hope Karen or one of the others is taking care of them. They must have realized I was missing months ago.

I suppose that depends on if the time flow is the same. It isn't always.

[Which could either be comforting or an even greater worry, if she thought about it. Vianca gave him a small pat of her hand, finding this a more important topic for the moment.]

They are okay.

.....Yeah. They're smart cookies. I'm sure one of them must have texted for help by the next morning; my Pokégear didn't come with me either, after all.

[Have an appreciative little smile at that, and a gentle squeeze of the hand in return. He hasn't really talked about how worried he is about his team since he's gotten here--Vianca is one of the only people who's really been in a position to understand, even if she's not a trainer herself..]

I guess I'll just have to hope time moves a lot faster here than at home.

[Vianca gave him an encouraging nod.]

They won't want you to worry, I am sure. They know you'll be back or find a way.

[That's what trainers did, wasn't it? She'd seen it happen enough. It wasn't always positive, but the good reunions outnumbered the bad by far.]

I'll figure something out. Even if it's just praying to Ainea and the rest to start with. If she brought me here, I'm sure she could find them, too.

[It didn't matter when or maybe even if he made it home, as long as they were properly reunited. If the gods needed him to serve, that was fine. It wasn't such a bad deal, was it?]

That is a concrete place to start. Those are always good to have.

They will take care of each other until then. That's what teams do.

Yeah.....

[He's still going to worry over them, of course. What trainer wouldn't? But..... he does have faith in his team, too. They're all smart, after all--some of them probably are even smarter than him, if he's being honest. Training psychic types is just like that sometimes. They're not in any danger at home--they just won't have him to look after them. As long as one of the other Elites had stepped in quickly, it was sure to be fine. The team would be taken good care of, and he.....

.....Probably has police looking for him, and a kidnapping scandal all over the news. Oh, Arceus, he hasn't even begun to consider how he's going to resolve that mess if when he gets home. What could he possibly even say?

There's no sense in worrying about it now, at any rate--if you put the cart before the Mudsdale, you won't get very far at all. Will offers Vianca a sheepish smile and dismissive gesture, as though he can just waft away the whole predicament with a wave of his hand; he hadn't meant to sidetrack things.....]

.....Sorry. You were saying? Something about students adjusting?

[Luckily for Will, Vianca wasn't the psychic one here. Her grass/bug connotations meant all his secrets were safe. It was a bit obvious that he was still worried, but of course he was. He'd probably still be worried until he had every single one of his teammates back with him, and that simply served to say that he was a Good Person. (At least to his Pokemon, which was good enough sometimes!)

The worry was still there, but it was not Vianca's place to prod it further. She'd let it go if that's what he wanted to.

It's okay. Your team is important. But yes, not everyone is a psychic type like some of yours, so it is usually not so easy to participate.

The school provided different ways of changing forms for students that desired it.

[He's going to drive himself crazy if he dwells on a problem he can't solve for certain. He already thinks about it often enough, when he's alone and has nothing else to distract him--maybe that's just one more reason he tries to keep himself so busy all the time, and surround himself with people.

Either way, it's at least an interesting distraction. Will laces his fingers under his chin, pondering the idea. He can think of one way, but multiple?]

You mean they have a TM for Transform?

That's very close. For the Pokemon students in particular there was a humanization HM they could choose to use.

[It was really ahead of its time and didn't take up a move slot, it was really cool wow.]
