September Intro Mingle Log
Welcome to Hugtopia, and to the city of Havenwell. This mingle is meant for new arrivals to get settled and meet the other inhabitants. New characters should be the only top-levels but everyone should feel free to tag around and make new friends. Who knows, you may find that Perfect Hug in here. You can use the prompts here, or create a wildcard of your own.

ICly, this takes place from the 2nd to the 16th and then we'll have a shiny new event post up for you all soon after that date range. The prompts below are optional, but are a way to get you started if you wish. To help you create your own prompts, please take a look through our Settings and FAQ. ❥ PROMPT I: Awakening

When you awaken, you're in the last outfit you remember wearing, three of your belongings laid nearby or your animal friend curled up by you, waking as you do. It's not the most comfortable place to sleep, a stone slab, but once you're awake, a humanoid-looking robot comes in and explains you're in Havenwell and leads you out of the room and into the main portion of the temple where a welcoming committee of similarly humanoid-looking robots hand over a clear smartphone-sized tablet, some starting funds, and explain their dilemma. Then they release you into Havenwell to pick your new home from free housing in the city and give you the chance to settle. It might be a bit disorienting, but thankfully there seem to be a lot of robots and even some non-robots around. Maybe ask them for help?

❥ PROMPT II: Buddy System

With all the changes going on, it might be hard to be a new arrival to Havenwell. The natives understand! Sort of. When some new arrivals begin to appear at the temples, receive the welcome speech, get their communicators and the simple map of the city, they get taken to the front of the temple by a helpful robotic priest. Rather than turn the newcomers loose right away, they pull someone seemingly at random off the street and push the two people together with a cheerful, "Here's your guide to Havenwell! It's dangerous to go alone, so be buddies!" before going back inside.

They try to place a new arrival with one of those who previously arrived, but who can keep track of all that, right? Characters may find themselves thrown together with an actual veteran or with another new arrival who only came here a day or even just an hour before them! Good luck helping each other out, offworlders, and don't lose your buddy!

❥ PROMPT III: Weather Wildcard

Havenwell's weather is generally so well controlled, with beautiful blue skies and temperate climes that it's hard to remember that there's a whole world out there that might not be so nice. Every so often, however, the controls break and something not so nice and temperate comes through. Pockets of unpleasant weather happens all over the city at random intervals and new arrivals might find themselves and others caught without warning. Is that a snowstorm with green snow? Sure is. A windstorm that only seems to affect three streets? Yup. Did a deluge of rain just pour the equivalent of an Olympic sized swimming pool of water on you? Uh-huh, sure did. A deep cold fog that suddenly rolls in and blankets your entire area? Yeeaaah... hopefully there's someone around to help you get about and find shelter or just dry off and get away from it all. Good luck, offworlder.

[Oh hello, a real bun. Kai let out a low 'ohh'. He was kinda impressed that it was so well behaved? Or it might have just been freaked out. Both?]

Maybe she was with you when it happened?

'M not really sure how it all works either. You're here though, and I guess I'm a tour guide now.

[She tries to remember what exactly it was she was doing before she got here but, to be honest, the memory's kind of hazy.]

Perhaps. Although I suppose this is ideal compared to her being left behind. In any case, I'll keep her safe so long as she's with me.

[And if he's not sure of how it all happened as well, then Momo's not going to prod him further. She's content enough she's paired with someone nice for this buddy system... thing.]

I'd be grateful for any help with getting to know this place better. I've been told there's a housing area I ought to go to, but I'd like to know more about the places this city has. Where people purchase food or clothing, for example...?

[Yeah you keep an eye on that bunny, there are baby dragons lurking about. Bunnies were probably way more appetizing than whatever mystery treats Kai's been tempting them with.

She was a real practical one, huh? Kai could appreciate that. Rubbing his chin, he gave the ground a very considering look as if all the answers she sought were beneath their feet.]

Hmm... There's not a ton of places for either, just yet. [He popped his head up again to look at her instead, shrugging.]

Y'came at a better time than we did though. The natives have been working on recalibratin' stuff for us, but it was kind of a shitshow the first few weeks. I think I've seen more cafes starting to offer food again, and there's a replicator in your house that can make ingredients for you.

[Uh, sir, we may have to talk about those dragons eventually...

Anyhow, Momo listens attentively to Kai's assessment. Having actual places designated to purchase food and clothing is great! At least she wouldn't have much trouble acquiring them. Of course, she imagines they'd be purchased by this world's currency. Which, as the welcoming committee has already made her known, is earned through physical contact.

Ah, well. She supposes it could be stranger...]

I see. I feel somewhat relieved if the natives are willing to go so far as to make living here more comfortable for us. Perhaps to make us feel more inclined to help out in return?

[Also! Something that really piqued her interest.]

As for this replicator, how interesting... Does it have any limits?

[Just, you know, keep an eye on her around Rawna's place.]

Yeah, something like that. They know we didn't exactly volunteer for this gig, so they're trying to do their best.

Their best is just kinda... still in the re-learning stages. The replicators are mostly for raw ingredients, and a lot of those are more, uh, synthetic? You can get 'em modified to get meals and fresher stuff though.

[Kai made a gesture with his thumb.] I can show you mine if y'want.

[Ominous, but she will keep an eye out for that indeed, thank you. And ah, hearing that the natives are trying their best does soften her perception on them somewhat. You know, momentarily putting aside the whole "just suddenly brought here" part of the equation.

That being said, someone's very impressed by this replicator contraption.]

Does it really create raw ingredients without having to put anything into it in exchange?

[As for the offer, she's more than eager. Excited, even!]

Oh! Would you really? I'd like to see how to operate one as well, so I won't be at loss should I need to use mine later on.

[Kai turned, waiting just a moment to make sure she was following before heading off down the road. Onwards, to the lands of Free Housing. What a convenient affair, getting two things done at once! Nice!]

Can't say I know exactly how it works, but I haven't been doing anything special besides hittin' buttons.

It uh, used to spit out a lot of neon gunk when I tried to make coffee, but it's been behavin' better now.

[She appreciates the efficiency! A bit sad that he doesn't know how the contraption works though, but seeing it for herself works well enough.]

Neon gunk...? [Does he mean that literally or...] I'm glad it fixed itself up eventually, though. Perhaps it isn't performing to its best capacity because of the crisis this world has?

It sorta tasted like coffee? [He drank it.]

The natives have been working on 'em. Prior to us showing up they haven't needed to worry about feeding anything, so all the replicators have been defunct for who knows how long.

[Uh, sir???]

You... you weren't the least bit worried it might've been dangerous to drink?

[There's awe in there, somewhere.]

Ah, that makes sense. It seems our presence here has them fumbling over making old technology work again. I was even told there was VR for... recreating sensory experiences?

It wasn't sludge anymore, so, YOLO or whatever.

[There's a big shrug. Sir. Please.]

Oh, right, those things... haven't messed with 'em much, but they seem to be a big thing. They malfunctioned at one point, kinda, and stuff came out of 'em?

[You know. Stuff.]

[Asked with all seriousness. What is slang. But then again it seems there are more pressing matters than that query.]

I-I see— [Kai, you don't just shrug off these things... So of course she asks for more details.] Ah. By stuff, do you mean inanimate objects or something... alive?

YOLO's pretty much you only live once so just go for it.

[A life's motto that lent well to the other life motto of 'Uh no, shrug off everything.' It was the way to survive. He waved his hand a little.]

I guess someone's farm simulation went a little haywire or something. There were rainbow colored sheep and chickens all over the place.

The chickens were really temperamental. Don't get in a chicken's way is what I learned from all that.
