♥ June (Dianir) Event Log

June (Dianir) Event Log
Ainea's time has ended and now Diacht's months have arrived. Dianir marks the beginning of the hot summer months with a rise in temperature as well as humidity. With each passing day, spring gives way to summer, and the natives of Havenwell are enjoying the blue skies along with the newly expanded barrier. With the most dangerous of the beasts gone thanks to offworlder help last month, researchers and conservationists head out on occasion into the newly opened areas to continue the work of cataloguing and preserving what they can find. Some take time to study the barrier and some just seem to enjoy being outside the walls for the first time in centuries. Meanwhile, the city within seems to have calmed from Ealom's excitement, settling into its usual routine with only a few…"hiccups."
❥ PROMPT I: Hana-hack-i

With the turning of the seasons, the weather warms up and Diacht's influence grows in strength. 'Tis the season to be honest with one another, because if you aren't, you may begin to feel a tickle in the back of your throat…
For those who have feelings repressed, secrets unaddressed, or maybe just won't confide in a friend when they're feeling depressed, the gods work in mysterious ways. Specifically, in the fact that the offworlders may find themselves coughing up flower petals. Whether petals of plantlife from Havenwell itself or another world entirely, the longer one goes without confessing their troubles or sentiments the more insistent their condition until they might even have trouble getting through a whole sentence without finding a corsage's worth stuck in their mouth. Speaking minor truths will lessen the effect a little at a time, while larger or more impactful ones will work to cure it completely.
While not painful or otherwise physically harmful, the affliction does feel awkward and very likely doesn't taste all that great. Not to mention it's going to be difficult to keep secrets when everyone can see you have a mouthful of flower.

❥ PROMPT II: Uproot of the Spirit

Those offworlders that have been present in Havenwell since the previous June may remember an outbreak of traits and desires not necessarily their own, reflecting the dominion of their associated god instead. With the return of the early summer season, so too do such urges begin to resurface--but not quite in the same fashion.
This time around, things are a bit different--adherents to one god may find themselves with any other god or gods' traits, with one or more applying at once, one and then another on different days, any multitude of combinations apart from those of the deity to which they belong. For example, one under Diacht may have the effects of Rawna one day and Ainea the next, or perhaps Ainea and Ohma both at once, but never contend with Diacht's influence. And while the previous year seemed to deal with the gods' animal natures, it seems this time things are a little different as people begin manifesting extreme versions of their gods' emotional domains.
Ohma: As the god of wisdom, Ohma's influence becomes a desperate and insistent need to exchange knowledge. The affected may ask friends and strangers all manner of questions, ranging from 'where did you get that shirt' to 'how do you like your eggs' and everything in between. In exchange, the affected also wish to share their own information on just about everything they know, whether the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow or the entire plot of a book they read that one time. They simply have to give and seek knowledge to and from whoever they can find.
Ainea: The influence of the god of compassion leads the affected to be almost aggressively kind. Complimenting every little thing those around them might say, do, wear--if it can be spoken kindly about, those under Ainea's influence will do so excessively and well past the point of obnoxious. So too might they feel a compulsion to give gifts to others--specifically, giving away the affected's own possessions. Once the effect wears off, one might even have to track down their new and old friends to get their more important things back...
Diacht: Honor and honesty being Diacht's domain, those affected by them will be incapable of lying. They will be compelled to not only speak the truth, but do so out of obligation no matter how awkward for them or the other party. Even if it means speaking a brutally honest opinion or divulging a carefully hidden secret, so long as the words are true to the affected speaker they will have the urge to share it. To tell a lie or general untruth will make them feel suddenly ill, dispelled only by speaking something truthful instead.
Rawna: Rawna's reasoning takes the forefront of their influence; anyone under their affect will be insistent upon hearing and soothing the emotional hurts of others. They are certain they need to be a listening ear or comforting shoulder to the absolute best of their abilities and beyond--that is to say, they will not only go out of their way to find others' problems, but potentially assume ones exist where they do not. Some dear friends haven't spoken in an entire day? Clearly they had a terrible fight, and it's up to Rawna's affected to fix it.

❥ PROMPT III: 'Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs

Yet another indication that the world is recovering is the reappearance of the Fairy Lights. As the weather turns warmer, these beautiful little insects take to the air for their mating dances at night, dimly and softly glowing like Earth's fireflies or lightning bugs. These tiny little bugs float through the air, flitting about as their bodies pulse with light. The Fairy Lights come in a multitude of colors from red to purple, turning the night into soft rainbows of light. They make their triumphant reappearance in two locations: the botanical gardens and the green belt that grew up where the old wall used to be. Their beautiful displays start once the sun goes down and stop at sunrise, and natives are delighting in their return by taking walks among them.
If offworlders follow suit, they'll notice that the Fairy Lights are attracted to those who come in pairs or more, especially those who engage in sustained positive contact with each other while among them. The Fairy Lights seem to enjoy it when people are touching and will land upon them, one of each color until a rainbow has formed - usually in a crown around the head. Once the rainbow crown of Fairy Lights is complete, that character will feel a pleasant calmness and a feeling of peace and happiness wash over them. For as long as you and your partner(s) are in contact, the Fairy Lights will stay and so will the peace they confer. Once contact is broken, one by one the little insects will fly away, off to find a new perch.

Breakfast, the wildest card of them all.
It's with a similar amount of care and sneak that Shinji pulls himself out of bed, though the vague sounds of life coming from the kitchen are enough to freeze his breath in his lungs. Not daring to make a move that would give him away, he slowly, silently peeks around the doorframe to see that, yes, Kyoko has beaten him to the punch on breakfast. Ah. Okay. For the moment, he will retreat.
Only long enough to slip quietly into the bathroom and slash some water on his face, though. He definitely looks at bad as he feels, but he can take some steps to freshen himself up a little bit before he tries to confront Kyoko. No reason to worry her even more than he already has. He's not a total and complete wreck, see?
His second stab at going to the kitchen is... still a silent affair. His legs don't dare carry him there too fast, the fear of somehow causing a mess again running tightly through his limbs. He watches her from the doorway for a moment, not wanting to make a peep while trying to talk himself into speaking, or approaching, or something, all up until his lungs betray him with a quick couple of coughs.
Ah. Well. Thank you for blowing his cover, tiny purple flowers. You are getting balled up in his fist until he can dispose of you properly.
"K-Kyoko."
Hello. He is here.
no subject
--Wait.
There was a jolt, and for a long, awkward moment Kyoko was simply frozen in place. Ah. It was already time for this--no!! What should she do!?
Well, first, she had to roll the tamagoyaki, and then add the rest of the beaten eggs to pan. So she did that. And then it was time to tip the omelet up, so its uncooked brethren could flow underneath. There. Eggs wait for no drama.
The simple action forced her out of the height of her panic, though, and after a soft breath, she was able to look cautiously over her shoulder. "... Good morning." Her voice came out tiny. "Breakfast... still needs a little while, but it won't be too long."
no subject
"Good morning," he answers back, hoping the politeness will get them off on the right foot for the day. "U-um, if it's okay... I'd like to help?"
It looks like she has everything pretty much under control, but he sincerely had been wanting to do just this for her, instead of the other way around. Just set him in front of something and let him finish it up, please?
no subject
And he did ask. And she was supposed to be making things right with him.
So she said, "um," again, a little softer, and looked uncertainly over at the breakfast in progress. Besides the spinach and eggs, there was already soup and rice going, which didn't leave a whole lot to add to a typical spread. "Um... fish, maybe or... octopus wieners...."
Look at all this eloquent apologizing.
no subject
Which is to say, when she relents, that's at least a tiny bit of tension off of Shinji's shoulders. "All right," he can do that. It definitely sounds like she has everything under control, but a little extra won't hurt to make this an apology meal fit for royalty.
He quietly crosses the kitchen - lets first dispose of those tiny hyacinth flowers still in his hand - before coaxing some salmon and salt out of the replicator. With how much Kyoko still has going on in the kitchen, any more substantial conversation can wait. No need to distract her too much. Time to just... quietly cook, if that's what she wants.
no subject
But somehow, in the middle of squeezing out all that shocked spinach, she turned her head up to stare over at him anyway. Whether he caught her or not, she jolted and looked away as soon as she realized--but then, after a moment, looked cautiously his way again.
"Um--" She stopped. What could she even say? "About yesterday... I shouldn't have ended things like that. No--I mean, I shouldn't have let the situation progress to that point in the first place, but... saying mean things to you and then just running away like that was inexcusable."
no subject
When she speaks up again, Shinji tenses up himself, his heart suddenly racing as she brings up the topic of yesterday. This... he knew this would happen sooner or later, but he can't stop the sharp pang of worry in his gut over what she might say.
"A-ah..." So that's how she felt about it? At least, at a glance, that's a fair sounding takeaway, and it doesn't sound too outrageous based on what he'd discussed with Kai. A part of him wants to refute the idea that she'd said anything particularly mean to him, as he's sure that anything she thinks may have been mean was just her acting out of hurt, but he's trying to be careful to not discredit her feelings on the matter.
A fresh rise of petals threatens to slip past his lips, to which he inhales sharply and quickly lifts a hand to cover his mouth. Easy, now, he'll take care of this in a moment. He wants to let her say her piece, first. "You weren't the only one who ended up running away, Kyoko."
no subject
"No... it was definitely me, but...." A furrow was pulling her brow in. "Are you actually... thinking you should have followed me?"
no subject
"Not... not like that, exactly, no." He exhales, letting some spidery red petals catch in his hand. Again, let's get rid of those immediately. "It's just... I'm the one who pushed you into letting me join you, and then after I'd hurt you, I didn't even try to clean up my mess. I just upset you, then ran off myself."
no subject
And it'd been bothering him so much that now he was--coughing up flowers, probably? There was no other explanation she could think of for that hand at his mouth. Oh no--she really shouldn't have let things get this way at all!
"Shinji," she said carefully, "there... was nothing I wanted you to do for me, after that conversation." Really, she wished he hadn't even sent Kaito after her, but that didn't bear mentioning. "And I was the one who waffled around and didn't make it clear from the start that I couldn't tell you anything."
no subject
"I didn't have to press you that hard in the first place. I didn't have to let you leave worried about me, either. I really did want to give you some space last night, but more than that... I was afraid to try and face you after knowing that I'd hurt you." After she'd run off and apparently tried to hurt herself, no less. He won't bring it up, but the fact does weigh heavy on his mind anyway, just like those flowers. Jeez...
"I wouldn't try and skip town to avoid you," he says carefully, "but there's a part of me that's done things like that before. You don't deserve to deal with that."
no subject
But what they needed to talk about right now was this idea Shinji had that he'd done her wrong. "Shinji... you were just trying your best to be good to me. I knew that yesterday, too. I was the one who made everything difficult."
no subject
But, he was! He was absolutely trying to do well by her, but jutsu because his intentions were good doesn't mean she wasn't upset by it all.
"You were still hurt. Anything you said that you thought was mean, and even just running away... all of that was because you were trying to protect yourself, right?"
Protect herself, and whatever thorny secret she might be holding so tightly on to.
no subject
Protect herself, and protect her secret, and protect Kaito and Shinji from herself and that secret--that was what she had wanted to do. Would she have failed on so many of those counts if Shinji had left her alone? ... Maybe not, but it was hardly something she could blame him for. He was used to a Kyoko who freely shared all kinds of things--how could he know this situation would be so different?
"But hurting you too wasn't right. I didn't want that at all."
no subject
Just like she knows he was trying to help, to do well by their friendship. They both understand nobody actually wanted anyone else to get hurt, nobody was acting maliciously. It's just... the sort of thing that can happen when people get close to each other.
"I don't think you would do something like that on purpose, Kyoko."
no subject
"You too!" She looked up at him, urgent. "You've always been really gentle with me! You've been really kind, and helped me and heard me out about lots of things so--of course you'd try to do that this time too." Her face was getting hotter by the second, but Kyoko did her best to keep looking at him through the shame. "I... I didn't wanna have to push you away, but then I ended up doing something even worse."
no subject
"I-I don't..." What's he supposed to say to all of that? Give him a moment here to try and clear his head a little. "I won't... I won't ask you about what's been on your mind, but what happened isn't going to change the fact that I'll listen if you do want to tell me things."
Just not... whatever this thing in particular is. She's entitled to her secrets.
"We're still friends."
no subject
And she hadn't particularly need him to say anything at all in return, but that... ah, it certainly did take a good bit of weight off her heart. "...Mm," she sighed, head dipping a bit as she blinked a bit of wetness from her eyes. "Thank goodness."
no subject
"I know you know that I didn't mean to," he continues, as gently as possible, "but can I stil apologize for hurting you?"
She'd been so against it yesterday, after all, but maybe now that they've laid everything out like they had, it would hold a little more weight this time around.
no subject
After how close she'd come this time to spilling her heart and ruining everything... how could she know she'd be able to keep her secret forever? It had always been a risk, in a place where your memories could be shown in VR without your permission and your natural urges could be tampered with at any moment, but now that she'd come so close and seen how much she could hurt them even without them knowing the awful truth....
Well.
Letting Shinji apologize to her felt a little wrong, considering everything he still didn't know, but... denying him would just be another mean thing on top of all the others. "If... you'll accept mine too," she agreed softly, after a moment.
no subject
Shinji had expected some degree of hesitance on her part, but if her condition came down to accepting her apology in return, that's a compromise he can make. For his own peace of mind, and for hers, some purely selfish apologies can be made.
"I can do that."
The fish can be left alone for a while longer so that he can turn more fully toward Kyoko, giving her a small bow as he talks, "I'm sorry for hurting you, Kyoko."
no subject
After quickly dropping the spinach onto her cutting board and wiping her hands on a dishtowel, she turned to face Shinji fully as well. "I'm sorry for everything, she said at the same time Shinji spoke, and bowed at the same time he did too. Hopefully they weren't close enough to bump heads.
no subject
BONK!
"Ah-!" He recoils, hissing a short inhale through his teeth and quickly lifting a hand to cover his head where it bumped into hers. Even if it wasn't a hard collision, it's still surprising! Way to undercut their heartfelt apologies, shenanigans!! Jeez!
no subject
"Unh!"Was this karma for smashing Kaito's hands instead of her own forehead yesterday? Kyoko could accept that she was finally getting what she deserved, but it seemed pretty unfair that Shinji had to suffer too.
Hands flailing, she straightened up, and let out a tiny wail. "No--I'm sorry! I'll get some ice right now!!"
no subject
He waves his free hand a little, trying to dispel her concern. "I'm okay, I swear!" Don't! Worry! This is nothing! "Are you okay?"
