♥ June (Dianir) Event Log

June (Dianir) Event Log
Ainea's time has ended and now Diacht's months have arrived. Dianir marks the beginning of the hot summer months with a rise in temperature as well as humidity. With each passing day, spring gives way to summer, and the natives of Havenwell are enjoying the blue skies along with the newly expanded barrier. With the most dangerous of the beasts gone thanks to offworlder help last month, researchers and conservationists head out on occasion into the newly opened areas to continue the work of cataloguing and preserving what they can find. Some take time to study the barrier and some just seem to enjoy being outside the walls for the first time in centuries. Meanwhile, the city within seems to have calmed from Ealom's excitement, settling into its usual routine with only a few…"hiccups."
❥ PROMPT I: Hana-hack-i

With the turning of the seasons, the weather warms up and Diacht's influence grows in strength. 'Tis the season to be honest with one another, because if you aren't, you may begin to feel a tickle in the back of your throat…
For those who have feelings repressed, secrets unaddressed, or maybe just won't confide in a friend when they're feeling depressed, the gods work in mysterious ways. Specifically, in the fact that the offworlders may find themselves coughing up flower petals. Whether petals of plantlife from Havenwell itself or another world entirely, the longer one goes without confessing their troubles or sentiments the more insistent their condition until they might even have trouble getting through a whole sentence without finding a corsage's worth stuck in their mouth. Speaking minor truths will lessen the effect a little at a time, while larger or more impactful ones will work to cure it completely.
While not painful or otherwise physically harmful, the affliction does feel awkward and very likely doesn't taste all that great. Not to mention it's going to be difficult to keep secrets when everyone can see you have a mouthful of flower.

❥ PROMPT II: Uproot of the Spirit

Those offworlders that have been present in Havenwell since the previous June may remember an outbreak of traits and desires not necessarily their own, reflecting the dominion of their associated god instead. With the return of the early summer season, so too do such urges begin to resurface--but not quite in the same fashion.
This time around, things are a bit different--adherents to one god may find themselves with any other god or gods' traits, with one or more applying at once, one and then another on different days, any multitude of combinations apart from those of the deity to which they belong. For example, one under Diacht may have the effects of Rawna one day and Ainea the next, or perhaps Ainea and Ohma both at once, but never contend with Diacht's influence. And while the previous year seemed to deal with the gods' animal natures, it seems this time things are a little different as people begin manifesting extreme versions of their gods' emotional domains.
Ohma: As the god of wisdom, Ohma's influence becomes a desperate and insistent need to exchange knowledge. The affected may ask friends and strangers all manner of questions, ranging from 'where did you get that shirt' to 'how do you like your eggs' and everything in between. In exchange, the affected also wish to share their own information on just about everything they know, whether the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow or the entire plot of a book they read that one time. They simply have to give and seek knowledge to and from whoever they can find.
Ainea: The influence of the god of compassion leads the affected to be almost aggressively kind. Complimenting every little thing those around them might say, do, wear--if it can be spoken kindly about, those under Ainea's influence will do so excessively and well past the point of obnoxious. So too might they feel a compulsion to give gifts to others--specifically, giving away the affected's own possessions. Once the effect wears off, one might even have to track down their new and old friends to get their more important things back...
Diacht: Honor and honesty being Diacht's domain, those affected by them will be incapable of lying. They will be compelled to not only speak the truth, but do so out of obligation no matter how awkward for them or the other party. Even if it means speaking a brutally honest opinion or divulging a carefully hidden secret, so long as the words are true to the affected speaker they will have the urge to share it. To tell a lie or general untruth will make them feel suddenly ill, dispelled only by speaking something truthful instead.
Rawna: Rawna's reasoning takes the forefront of their influence; anyone under their affect will be insistent upon hearing and soothing the emotional hurts of others. They are certain they need to be a listening ear or comforting shoulder to the absolute best of their abilities and beyond--that is to say, they will not only go out of their way to find others' problems, but potentially assume ones exist where they do not. Some dear friends haven't spoken in an entire day? Clearly they had a terrible fight, and it's up to Rawna's affected to fix it.

❥ PROMPT III: 'Cause I'd Get A Thousand Hugs

Yet another indication that the world is recovering is the reappearance of the Fairy Lights. As the weather turns warmer, these beautiful little insects take to the air for their mating dances at night, dimly and softly glowing like Earth's fireflies or lightning bugs. These tiny little bugs float through the air, flitting about as their bodies pulse with light. The Fairy Lights come in a multitude of colors from red to purple, turning the night into soft rainbows of light. They make their triumphant reappearance in two locations: the botanical gardens and the green belt that grew up where the old wall used to be. Their beautiful displays start once the sun goes down and stop at sunrise, and natives are delighting in their return by taking walks among them.
If offworlders follow suit, they'll notice that the Fairy Lights are attracted to those who come in pairs or more, especially those who engage in sustained positive contact with each other while among them. The Fairy Lights seem to enjoy it when people are touching and will land upon them, one of each color until a rainbow has formed - usually in a crown around the head. Once the rainbow crown of Fairy Lights is complete, that character will feel a pleasant calmness and a feeling of peace and happiness wash over them. For as long as you and your partner(s) are in contact, the Fairy Lights will stay and so will the peace they confer. Once contact is broken, one by one the little insects will fly away, off to find a new perch.

"...No, it's fine." Era takes a small sip of the drink now that the strawberries have been devoured. "I'm not picky with food. Anaphylactic shock is just kind of shite."
no subject
"I'll bet!" he agreed with her view on allergic reactions. "I've never had one myself but I can't imagine that would be a fun experience. I witnessed my wife after eating strawberries once and I don't know which one of us had been more freaked out." He shook his head with a chuckle and then focused back on her with a reassuring smile. "So, I wouldn't want you eating anything that might cause that or any other discomfort. The goal is to make you feel better not worse."
He might have missed initially that his comment had sounded like he thought she was being too picky, but he was trying to make it clear now that it'd been to make certain of the ingredients. "I'll try to remember avocados are a problem if you ever come by the bar."
no subject
Era was lucky she hadn't died that day, and was quite paranoid about trying new foods in Deerington after that. Fortunately her healing magic is functional in Havenwell, meaning she likely wouldn't be in true danger... Still, it was a shite experience.
"I won't, but I keep telling Ardbert to. He knows to keep away from it, but he's a lightweight and might forget."
She drinks more of the smoothie. It makes her feel cold, though Carbuncle is more than capable of keeping her warm, and the growing stability of her hands is more than worth a bit of a chill.
"He liked pubs and taverns when he was young. It would be nice for him to make more friends to drink with."
no subject
He muttered a 'wow' and picked up his communicator. "Shall I call your husband or a taxi?"
no subject
"...May I finish the smoothie first? It should just take a few minutes more, and then I can leave with Carbuncle. I'll be gone quicker that way."
no subject
He sighed and set the communicator down. He tried again, this time with a calmer tone. "I don't actually want to rush you out of here. I was wanting to let you stay here till you felt better and then help you get home. I'm reacting because what you said was very rude. Have I done something unintentionally to deserve that treatment just now?"
no subject
"What was very rude?"
no subject
"When I said I'd be careful not to serve you something harmful at my bar. I realize things got messed up the last few times you and I spoke, but I'm trying here. Wouldn't a more respectful answer been to say something positive back or 'thank you' rather than say you definitely won't be going to the place I just invited you to."
no subject
no subject
"Yeah." He paused at the question and simply shrugged. "Why not?"
He didn't have a very good answer besides life was too short and this city was too small. Since she hadn't vanished into thin air following their fights, he couldn't simply ignore her presence entirely. She was still here in town and someone his friends and acquaintances were also connected to.
"It's only one of four non-native businesses in the city. Seems a rather waste if it isn't a place for people like us."
no subject
And she truly doesn't. Perhaps it's her current condition adding to her confusion (she wouldn't be surprised if it were), but Era is fairly certain it still wouldn't make sense to her regardless.
"I promised to refrain from initiating any communications with you. I have kept my promise and I have no intent to break it," she tells him. "You seem much happier now. I do not want to risk messing that up somehow."
no subject
He offered a cautious smile. "Alternatively, you can not make decisions for me and we can try this again. You're the girl who is allergic to avocados and seems to like strawberries. I'm the guy who doesn't want you to go into Anaphylactic shock and has promised to remember so you can have a nice time should you ever come to his bar."
no subject
She says nothing about the veracity of his past accusations, and her expression does not shift from that small, confused frown.
"It isn't some 'silly rule', and I am not holding a grudge. I am simply not allowing myself to forget that I caused you pain and distress you did not deserve."
And it wasn't just Tony who was caused distress by her actions. Era hasn't forgotten her last communication with Gladio, either. After that, keeping her distance seemed like the best choice for everyone. Seeing Tony again, months later and doing so much better, Era can only assume it was the right choice.
"Thank-you for the promise not to poison me if I were to visit your bar. It is a sentiment not everyone I've met has held."
no subject
She really needed to stop assuming! His frown deepened hearing how she summarized what he'd said. "What? No.. Era, I'm trying to be nice to you." He covered his face with his hand. "That's a polite thing to say where I'm from. Like it's normally your job to remind someone of your allergies but a friend might say they'll try to remember so you don't have to keep reminding them. It's not just a promise not to poison you." Although that part did make him laugh a bit. Wow, their standards really were low, weren't they?
no subject
She watches him cover his face, then laugh a bit. She stares at him in bafflement.
"You are being nice," Era assures him. "I didn't know there was allergy etiquette, so that is useful."
A pause.
"You are not allergic to gluten, saffron, raisins, almonds, or apple, right?"
no subject
The list of ingredient has him curious. "No, I don't have any allergies, but I don't need anything though." He got up and stepped into the kitchen briefly to grab a bottle of beer from the refrigerator. Coming back, he asked, "How's your family been? You mentioned Ardbert needing to come out drinking more."
no subject
By the time he returns from his brief journey to the kitchen, Tony will find an unlidded container of pastry fish on the table next to Era's now-empty glass. The girl herself is munching on one of the delightfully fragrant, apple-filled pastries.
"Solus hasn't spoken to me in two weeks," she says. "And the rest continue to fuss about my health, so I believe they are doing fine, for the most part."
She shrugs again.
"Your family is well, I trust?"
no subject
Apparently more progress than he thought! Returning to the couch revealed Era had produced some kind of treat? He stared at it surprised for a moment before sitting down and hesitantly picking it up. "Thank you," he said, giving her a smile. Beer might not have been the best thing from the fridge, but that was okay.
Taking a bite, he hummed approvingly. "That's very good." His smile faded a bit hearing her news though. "Yeah, we're fine. He hasn't spoken to you in two weeks? Did you two have a falling out?" He asked concerned.

Carbuncle nudges her stomach gently with its nose, whining faintly as if to check that she's alright. She pats its head reassuringly, scritching behind an ear until a soft purring can be heard.
"I freed his enslaved soul without his consent," she answers. "It was dangerous, and he is dramatic."
no subject
Whether it was the purring or just the nature of a cat, but a tiny gray face peeks up from one side of the couch curiously. With a squeaky 'mew', the kitten started to climb up to investigate further.
As Tony took a moment to come up with what the hell to say to that, he reached out and plucked the small fuzzball up. He kept the cat close enough Era could easily pet her but maybe a little protected with the unknown other animal (though, Carbuncle was being cute and not looking to be a threat at all. A dad was a dad and couldn't help dadding a bit).
"That sounds complicated," he finally settled on.
no subject
"O'er twelve thousand years of 'complicated'."
Knowing what she does of Hemera, Era has no doubt that her soul managed to complicate things for her dearest friend for many centuries prior to their falling out. Somehow the thought is reassuring, despite everything.
Her horns are not deaf to a kitten's purrs, so when Tony plucks the tiny ball of fur up she is not at all surprised. Carbuncle pays it no mind either, having been aware of its presence long before the feline made its presence known (there is hardly a keener nose than a Carbuncle's, after all), and instead continues demanding attention from its mistress. With one hand atop her own companion's head and the other holding a pastry fish, she settles for eyeing the kitten with a small, endeared smile.
"It's fine with animals," Era tells him. "We've cared for a few Coeurl kittens on our travels."
A great many critters have joined her adventures over the years. Some have been brief encounters, while others lead to her having her retainers care for the little menagerie in her cottage until they decide to return to the wilds. It's something she's missed dearly, trapped in this world with so few animals to befriend.
"Carbuncle isn't an animal. It is an aetherial manifestation, made from mathematics and magic."
no subject
He gave her a blank look for a moment before realizing what had prompted Era's comment. He'd acted so automatically, he hadn't fully noticed how protective it had been. "Oh.. right. Really? Is that why you call it an 'it' and don't have a name for it? There are other Carbuncles right? This is Azure or Azzie, by the way."
He gently moved the kitten over to the couch near the other two so they could meet her properly. He tried his best not to hover.
no subject
Era runs her thumb firmly up along Carbuncle's small snout, right through the center of the red marking of its forehead. It seems to delight in this, all but melting against her hand. She polishes off her pastry fish with the other, cheeks puffed from how large a bit she took. The Fortemps maids would be appalled by her poor manners, but Era knows her adoptive father would have had to hide a laugh, so she doesn't care.
"Carbuncle is a Carbuncle named Carbuncle."
As a child, Kiyo had spent an age teaching herself how to make a Carbuncle, so when she succeeded Era can only imagine that played a role in her childhood self's naming of their first friend. She can't say she disapproves of the name either, if she's honest.
"Magic isn't male or female, and neither is geometry, so neither is it."
Knowing that she'll talk up a storm about arcanima, Era pauses to hold out her hand for Azure to sniff by way of introduction.
"Hello, little Azure."
Carbuncle remains still so as not to intimidate the kitten. Instead it purrs more loudly, letting the small creature know it isn't a threat.
"Carbuncles are the signature creation of arcanists, but arcanima is notoriously difficult to learn. Only two island city-states have the resources to teach the discipline, so Carbuncles are not frequently seen inland."
no subject
It reminded him of when he'd have arguments with Morgan when he taught her that the terms 'bucks' and 'does' were used for rabbits as well as deer after watching Bambi. 'No daddy! Bambi's dad was the buck! Weren't you paying attention?' So with a quiet roll of his eyes, he focused on the rest of what she was saying instead.
Azure, having never met anything harmful before, knew no fear. She made her way over to investigate Carbuncle since it wasn't coming closer to her. This was the strangest looking cat she ever saw!
"And that's why you don't name them? Because there are so few? It must be a difference in preference. Each of my suits are one of a kind but I've given them a unique name. Same with my tools." He glanced about the room, wondering what else he named. Now that he thought about it, he named a lot of stuff. Huh. "You own a bunch of birds, don't you? Do you name them?"
[ooc- Feel free to godmod Azure.]
no subject
Her Carbuncle was summoned non-traditionally, as would be expected when using a geometry made by a prepubescent child. Era is glad for it though, because all Kiyo wanted was a friend to keep the loneliness at bay. Years later and missing all memory, that was all Era had wanted, too.
She runs a hand along one of Carbuncle's long ears as it lets out a friendly little chirp to the kitten.
"What kind of names does someone give a suit?"
