❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

• a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  
• we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  
• anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  
• characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  
• you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  
• check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

• players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  
• network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  
• any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  
• Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

The thought that they're trying that hard to keep him here only makes the fire in him burn hotter. Nobody keeps him away from his family.

One way or the other. That is the kicker, isn't it? They have no way of knowing what getting out of here may require aside from the bits and pieces the natives have shared. On top of that, they have no idea how long it will take.

That is the part that worries V the most. He doesn't exactly have a lot of time, though, he's felt strangely stable since arriving here.

"Perhaps if two of us speak with the natives together we can get more information?"

Everyone loves good cop, bad cop, right? And it's pretty clear just how well suited one of them is to playing the bad cop.

"Not really into talking to people. Generally I piss them off before they're willing to give up any information. Besides, it's way easier to just hack the information myself."

Generally digitally, but in the end if he's desperate he's not necessarily against hacking it directly out of someone's brain if he has to.

See? That is definitely a bad cop answer.

"You can do that with your device nonfunctional?" V has to admit, the idea doesn't bother him as much as it probably should, but he also doesn't particularly like having been brought her without access to the little power he actually has. If a little hacking is needed, then so be it.

"Not with mine, and mine isn't connected to any information here. The one we were given though, that I could use."

And it won't matter whatever traps or security they have around the more important information. Jules can bypass that crap like its not even then. When the system thinks you're a part of it, it doesn't have any reason to try and stop you from entering.

"Oh this should be interesting," V can't help but smirk at that. Is he inviting himself to watch it happen? He sure is.

"It probably isn't the best idea to try this out in the middle of the street. It seems as if there are a great many empty houses around here. Shall we pick one to work from?"

"Pretty sure you and I have a very different definition of the word interesting."

Or else V just assumes Jules' hacking is going to be a lot more dramatic than it actually is. In reality, the only sign that Jules would even be doing anything would be that his eyes were rather unfocused. He didn't even need his hands to hack.

He's a little over a month old and he spent most of that in an empty city killing demons and having an existential crisis. Their ideas of interesting are very different.

"If you have never tried demon meat, then yes. I dare say we do."

For the record, he doesn't recommend it. Cooked or otherwise.

"Pretty sure we don't have demons where I'm from. In legend, sure. Not in reality right now."

Unless you consider Kyr one. Or maybe Jules himself. Some people certainly would.

"They make quite a mess of things. You're better off without them."

Not that he knows from personal experience or anything.

"If this place wasn't so good at stripping things away from us, I would introduce you to a couple," he has no doubt that Jules would approve of Nightmare's talent for destruction, if nothing else. "Of course, one of them does have a terrible habit of not keeping his beak shut."

Not that he is starting to miss Griffon's constant gabbing or anything. No, not at all.

"Pretty sure a lot of species make a mess of things. Both species specific and certain beings within any species."

Because he's long ago learned that while certain races are more prone to destruction and causing chaos, there was not a single race that didn't have it's own troublemakers.

V shrugs, unwilling to argue a point he knows is correct, "That almost sounds like an excuse to make a mess of things for the natives here."

"I don't ever need an excuse to make a mess of things. I just do it. Besides, these assholes brought me here of their own accord and against my will. They deserve whatever minsid mess I give them."

"Minsid?" V has no idea what the word means, but he does like the sound of it. "It sounds as if you could teach me some interesting words along with helping me make a mess."

"It's Andarion."

And yeah, Jules probably could. He speaks a ridiculous number of languages and dialects, most of them fluently. Of course he's not going to just offer up language lessons. Not unless he can con V into calling himself a moron or something.

"Is that your native language?"

In the quest for knowledge, V would be willing to call himself any number of things. After all, he has made no effort to hide how weak he is. He hates it, but it's all he's got to work with.

Jules gives V a seriously shit eating grin because, hey, he's an asshole and what the hell kind of question is that anyway?

"It's just the language I made up that is named after my species' race."

He lets that play for a moment to see how far V is willing to buy it before adding one more thing.

"Sarcasm is my native language."

V raises an eyebrow at Jules before returning the grin, "Are you certain it's Sarcasm that is your native language? I was going to guess Sass."

Did he buy it or not? He's sure not telling.

"Sass is hardly a language. It's more a dialect. You can throw sass into any language to alter it."

Could be a personality type too, Jules supposes, but it's way to tame of one to use for him.

Hey, Personality Type: Sass, has been working out for V so far, though so has Personality Type: Cynical...

Look, he's not had a whole lot of human contact in his one-so-month of life. He's working his way up to those less tame types while doing his best to avoid Personality Type: Homicidal.

Check, check, check on all of those things for Jules as well. Thankfully for V Jules isn't human, or at least not human enough to really consider that a part of himself anymore.

"Giving it lots of credit. Dialects are more versatile. You can have them in all languages. I can throw around sass in any language I speak. Could probably even pull it off in a language I don's speak fluently. Hell, might not even need language."

"That is a very large boast with very little proof," V leans on his cane, seeming to slide into being a bit more serious about this conversation than he should be.

Then again, that is quite a lot to claim without backing it up.
