❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

That's kinda why I was thinking it was a dream.

[ Well, amongst other things... but 'physical contact will help this world thrive' after that whole embarrassing miscommunication between him and Inigo? And now they're even both here. ]

Plus, gods being behind it? Sounds like my idea of the deep. [ Look at this frown! ] I mean, what's touching got to do with helping? [ A glance at their linked arms. ] I'm not feeling anythin' weird. Do you?

[ Sorry, but Inigo's thoughts are momentarily distracted. Not by more of the dream talk, no. He's thinking about that odd sentence in the middle there. His idea of the deep.. what? The deep what! There's clearly a word missing there, right!

But Inigo snaps out of it when he realises he's being addressed. A blush slowly crawls upon his face, not by the fact that he was caught off guard while being distracted as much as he feels his answer is slightly embarrassing. ]

Well, I feel.. kind of happy? [ OFFERING IT SO AWKWARDLY. But he's being honest! ] But I don't think that's any effect this place is having, I think it's just natural. I always feel like that whenever we touch.

[ .. Although. He realises something. It makes Inigo frown, leaning his face a little closer to Tidus's so he can whisper: ] Does that mean there are gods watching us right now?

[ Making sure they're touching? Mandatory touch police? ]

[ ...............

........are they being watched? He's certainly thinking about that more than what Inigo confessed (because that makes sense--hugging makes him happy, why else would he do it?), and... ]

I... [ uh ] I dunno. It's gotta be hard to watch all of us. [ ... ] Right?

They should just know we're doing it if that's the reason they need us to. Ugh, gods are confusing- [ he dismisses, feeling himself getting too confused!! ] I don't like them. They do whatever they want to, doesn't matter what we think.

I don't know, if they're gods, then they may be omniscient.

[ .. then again, if they are, maybe they don't require actually having to watch to make sure people are hugging..

Inigo feels like thinking too hard about that may start to either break his brain or make him feel very awkward about hugging. And he definitely does not want the latter to occur. ]

But-- [ He starts. It's a weak protest. Usually he would be a little more insistent on this, considering how much he believes in it, but there's no way he can do that with Tidus. He doesn't want to rub him the wrong way. ] Not all gods are bad. Naga is really good. Maybe.. Maybe the ones here are like that too!

[ Ah. He forgot there, what Naga represented to Inigo. Didn't forget about Naga itself, but it's always been the 'really important dragon' than 'the god figure' in Tidus's mind. He purses his lips tight for a second. ]

Sure - sure, you're right. [ He concedes. ] And we had gods on the train too. They weren't bad. [ At least, Persephone didn't seem bad.

But that's no reason to lump all gods as bad, is it? So Tidus brightens up. ]

I hope you're right! [ And, if they actually stop and think about it- ] Asking us to hug or touch isn't a big ask.

[ Except, there has been another possibility in Tidus's mind. ]

What if this is somewhere the train's been before? I guess... that makes more sense, right? This doesn't really feel like a dream or...fake. But there's got to be some connection with the train involved.

[ Inigo is rather glad that Tidus concedes so easily. He really wouldn't want to push the point, since clearly Tidus's opinion is valid for his own circumstances, but at the same time Naga is just a bit too important of a part of his life to leave statements like that unturned.

This feels like a good middle road though. Being positive, but cautious about the gods here. They can work with that, right?

Although the other part.. ]

.. Should we look around? [ It's not like they're going to learn much by standing around here, after all. And - never fear - Inigo can totally still cling to his arm even when they walk. It's perfect. ] Maybe we can find some sign of it. Or ask a.. um. A normal person. If we come across one.

[ Please don't make him talk to these weird beings. Orisa is so much more normal than any of these. ]

It should be fine as long as we stick together, right?

Yeah... [ It's a slow agreement, one that's accompanied by a distraction eye examining their immediate surroundings. Like he's looking for some particular change, or... a particular something.

(A particular someone, actually, but let's not talk about it. Right?? ...right) ]

Okay, [ he sighs, focusing on the now. On them, looking at Inigo with a nod. ] We'll see who or what's here. And if there's any gods around here - we'll go over and say hi to them!

[ Because you can totally go over and chat with gods whenever you want, right. Do you trust Tidus around a god, bro. ]

[ Definitely not, bro.

Which is why maybe they shouldn't find the gods first. In fact, Inigo is also looking for a particular someone. Maybe it's the same as the person Tidus is thinking of, maybe not-- but either way, he's definitely going to bring it up. Sorry, pal. ]

Let's see if Roland is here.

[ Can you blame Inigo for wanting to see him in particular? You know how attached he is, Tidus! ]

I mean, if we're both here.. [ Then surely he's here too, right? Tidus? Can you say no to Inigo's puppy eyes? Come on, come on, let's go find Roland, come ooooon! ]

[ why are you attacking him with the puppy eyes, brooo...!!

...but it makes sense. Of course Inigo will want to know, and it's not like Tidus doesn't want to know either. About other people, about Taiki and Saku. Tidus tugs Inigo's arms with the one of his he's holding, starts to walk just to get moving. ]

Sure, alright. Our roommates should be around here too if we're here. Xue Yang, S'reee, that other guy - [ whatever his name. ] You met any of them? How about you room? Who's with you?

[ Time to see if they can keep an eye open for them too! ]

[ That other guy.

Not like Inigo would call out Tidus for something like that when he himself isn't exactly super close with any of his roommates.. ]

Well, at least one of your roommates should be very recognizable.. [ There's a lot more space here than back on the train, after all. S'reee would probably be in whale form, right? And there probably aren't too many whales just out and about here. ]

And, um.. in my room is Orisa, that Doctor guy, and.. I think the girl is called Elfnein? I wonder how Orisa would feel about this place.

[ Considering the weird robotic people everywhere here.

Though even she is much more normal than any of these, Inigo would say. Or maybe he's just used to her. ]

[ yeah don't call out Tidus when you're going 'that Doctor guy' too! ]

Orisa? [ Oh- ] Is that the oversized machine? Uh- whatever they like to be called. [ Since...is that too cold? ] I've seen them around. But I guess it'd be like meeting distant cousins? They don't look the same.

[ So, who knows? Not Tidus. ]

Yes, they don't act the same way either. Sure, Orisa may be a machine, but she has an oddly warm side to her mannerisms. [ Maybe it's just that she's a bit more expressive than the things walking around here, who knows.. But Inigo does know that he's never felt the same discomfort around her as he does when he looks at the things here. ]

At least we should be be able to spot her easily here if she's around. She'd be head and shoulders above everyone else.

[ He pauses.

Something about that thought brings something else to mind, although Inigo is a little more hesitant to bring it up. It shows a bit in his tone. ]

.. if this place does end up being like the train in the way that it could randomly draw people to itself, [ - it sure would explain why they can't remember getting here! - ] do you think.. maybe there could be other people here we know?

You know, not from the train, but.. from back home.

[ Literally why does Inigo have to go down this avenue of thought!! ]

Yeah, but -- what chance is there of it doing that? [ He doesn't want to think about what he saw, the chance it's real, the chance that-- ] Out of a hundred... thousands of worlds!, there's people from ours around? Isn't that impossible? People would notice if their friends and family were just all gone!

[ Does he make any sense, does anything about this situation make sense? It's gotta be a dream. It's gotta be some weird...dream thing. ]

This can't just be a thing that happens all the time and nobody notices. [ Can it? ]

[ Tidus has a slight moment of solace as Inigo seems to be thinking. Maybe he can even hope for the slightest moment that Inigo is going to move on to a different topic after the silence.

But that sure is some false hope. ]

Well, back on the train people from the same world ended up there together all the time, right? [ He says, as if both of them didn't literally have people from their world there with them.

But thinking of departures is hard, and he doesn't want to draw their attention to that. ]

And when I talked with Gerome about it, he said he hadn't even noticed me being gone. [ So that could be an explanation as to why no one back home is ever noticing all these people not being there.. ]

So.. would it really be that strange? Think about it, maybe I could meet more of your friends! [ He's being very, very careful to not mention the Y-name here. ] I'd love to if I could!

[ Top 10 bro betrayals right here. ]

Wouldn't it be better to meet them on the train? [ Out of any situation? It's still hard to believe they're just randomly on this world in the first place... and as nice as it is to be free from the same walls they're always greeted with whenever they're no on a mission, it's hard to be thrilled with how confusing this all is. ]

I mean... it makes sense to meet someone we know on there, right? The train picked us up, so it can always go back and grab somebody else. It already knows the way. [ He makes a face however--sorta has been, at varying levels of discomfort. ]

I wouldn't want them to show up anyway. I'd be happy if you got to meet them! But... everyone has their own lives. I don't want them being pulled away from that.

[ What good would there be? He trusts their skills, but they're more than just fighters, have more than that going on. ]

Anyway...! Is this does have something to do with the train, its past or...whatever, I don't want them to get caught up in whatever mess is coming.

Ah, well..

[ Inigo looks awkward for a brief moment, but then shakes his head and smiles, determined to not caught up in his dumb social insecurities now of all times. Come on, Inigo. Be better than this. ]

You're right, of course. I was just saying.. it might be kind of nice, if the circumstances weren't so crappy. You know?

[ Then again, despite the whole captivity angle - life on the train, and maybe even in whatever odd place this is, has been much better for Inigo than his life for years back home. ]

Nevermind that though, let's forget it! Come on, come on, let's look at everything around us instead! Figure out what's going on here!

Hey. [ Hey. Don't think he doesn't know where that head of his is going, though it's hard to do anything like this, Inigo clinging onto his arm... but he nudges it out, paps him on the leg. ]

I'd want you to meet them, I would! Two of them got together you know - they're gonna have a baby! And you should see them: a woman who can silence ya with a single look, and the most laidback guy who overthinks anything! You wouldn't believe it if you met them!

And? [ Looking at Inigo, smiling - encouraging. ] Who would you want me to meet?

[ He isn't so sure if it's a good or a bad thing that Tidus has learned to read him so well by now. On the downside, it's really embarrassing to have his negative thought spirals called out like this. But on the upside, maybe it's actually better to have that out in the open rather than mope by himself about it.

Doesn't mean it doesn't still embarrass him though. His cheeks are slightly pink as he momentarily ducks his head before answering - yet still not letting go of the other. ]

They've got to be some pretty amazing people if they're friends with you. [ He tries to say it like a half-pouty half-mopey joke, but it's more genuine than that. Or maybe, more than that, they were lucky to have known someone like Tidus.

Besides, he can't help but be interested. He's heard of some of the people Tidus knows from back home, sure - his family, Auron, Yuna - but he can't help but be curious what other friends Tidus ended up having. ]

M-Me? [ He sputters though, caught off guard by the reversal. ] Hey, this isn't about me! I'm curious about the people you've been hanging out with!

What, I can't be curious back? Fiiiiiine, [ he drags out, like Inigo is just so unfair. Fine, fiiine. Let's just have him talk instead of Tidus getting any goodies! ]

Well, there was Kimahri too! The other two were Lulu and Wakka, and then Kimahri's a Ronso. He's like a uh... [ Tidus gestures out his more available hand in front of him, making a nonsensical circular shape. ] A big blue... cat? With a horn on his head!

Actually, [ now that he's thinking about it, ] do you have non-humans in your world? Who else is there?

[ He'd get back to describing the Ronso, but he wants to know! ]

[ A big, blue cat? Now Inigo is wondering if it's an actual big cat on four legs or one that stands up like a person.. It doesn't sound like anything he's ever heard of, that's for sure. ]

We do, but nothing like that, from what I know. [ Maybe in some far off place, like Valm..? ] We have manaketes, which are dragons who live in human forms. And then there's the taguel, they're a race of.. uh, well, essentially bunny people, but if Yarne is anywhere around here, please don't call it that. He won't stop shrieking about it, probably.

[ Inigo will get a headache just thinking about it.. He's squinting a bit at the very thought! ]

Neither of them are very common though. There's mostly just humans.

Oh, bunnies... the things with the long pointy ears? They hop when they move? ...hmmm...

[ Now he's imagining human-shaped bunnies.... but he can barely remember what the faces of a bunny look like! ]

Ronso are more tough-looking than that. They're pretty muscular, and they have big fat noses. Snouts? Cat noses. [ He motions to his own nose like, you know! Those cat faces! ] And they're fast too! Man, and Kimahri, he could jump off of anything anywhere.

[ It's always impressive to think about Kimahri's moves, okay. Just jumps around all over the place! ]

I can't believe you were the one hanging out with muscular guys.

[ Get it. It's since Inigo's gay.

Although he'll pass on the half-cat people, thanks, that's just.. a little bit too odd, even for him. ]

Was he faster than you though? [ Inigo's always thought Tidus was pretty fast too, anyway. But maybe being non-human would make him faster than regular humans? Yarne and Nah could do all sorts of things that Inigo himself couldn't do either, after all. ]

[ This face because what does that mean, Inigo. Hanging out with the muscular guys?? ??? ]

I've got muscle. [ Said a little defensively... thank you very much!! ] And yeah, he can move faster than me. I'm the better swimmer though!

[ Does he need to puff his chest out a little and lift his chin just so Inigo doesn't miss how he looks?? Bro? Because he is! ]

And I bet I can run faster than you!

Why is this suddenly a competition?! [ Whine, whine. He can't even tell Tidus that yes, he is indeed muscled and it's very, very nice, because that might start an entirely different flusterstorm! ] I didn't even do anything!
