❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

[Better for everyone this way!! He does feel a little badly about making him choke like that, though. Poor guy's got enough on his plate.]

Yeah, well... I've been thinking a lot about that sort of thing lately. When's the last time either of us were allowed to be selfish? For real I mean.

[Not just the little indulges like fishing for an hour or spending an extra few gil for the good quality spices, though it's been a long time since they got to do those either. But really focus on what they enjoy, what they're passionate about, how they could spend their time outside of duties to the crown. They've both been so married to the job or fixated on doing everything for other people since childhood, and while he's not a workaholic like Ignis, this place has taught him just how hard it is to think about his own wants instead of everyone else's.]

[ He leans forward a little bit, careful to set the coffee down as his hand searches out for a fork or spoon? For the cake. Once he finds the utensil that he's looking for, he pauses as he really thinks about Noctis' words.

He loves cooking, but that had gotten started cause of Noctis, wanting to recreate a dessert he had as a kid. ]

It has been quite some time. [ Is the best that he can come up with. ]

If you need any help getting started, I don't mind. I'm not too bad these days.

[Months of living with just him and Prompto sort of forced him to get back into practice in the kitchen. Plus, he doesn't mind being Ignis' eyes when he needs it.]

[ Has this been anyone else, Ignis would've brushed them off. But he trusts Noctis. A lot. ]

If that's an excuse to spend more time together, all you had to do was ask. [ he must be feeling better if he's teasing again. ]

I'd like that, Noct. [ show isn't the right word here ] I'd like to know how you've improved on your cooking skills. [ he knows that Noctis has had experience in that department and he's made him do things while they were camping before to. ]

I'd like to find my footing in battle too. [ he shifts his head in Noctis' general direction. ] If you don't mind assisting me.

Is this what I get for being nice?

[Teasing royalty like that, good grief. There's a smile in Noct's voice, though.]

I don't mind. I bet there's still plenty you can do in a fight once we get enough practice in.

[There hadn't really been time or space for it on the road to Gralea, but here there's plenty of both.]

You're a recipe in the making. [ says in the most teasing tone that he can. he's so so glad that he can get Noctis to smile despite well, everything. ]

You know that I don't like to be coddled but [ he gives off a smile ] even I have to admit that I need help.

You know me better than anyone. [ hopefully the message is there. You know when to back off, when I need the help cause honestly, he's having a hard time to word it properly without it coming out wrongly. ]

I could say the same to you.

[Ignis certainly knows him well. Well enough to know that he's bad at asking for help too, or being coddled as an invalid- though he's just fine with spoiling more often than not. There's a big difference in his mind. He's learned to do a little better than he used to for the issue of needing help, so he's glad Ignis is able to ask him too.]

You don't have to worry about anything. We'll figure something out, and you'll be fighting like normal in no time.

[An exaggeration perhaps, or wishful thinking- his eyesight being gone means it's likely a long road ahead of them. But he likes the idea of being there for Ignis to help him with it, rather than the ten-year absence waiting for the both back on Eos.]

[ Even he knows that he can't go back to his usual fighting style. He has to readjust it to fit his condition. It'd be rather dumb of him to think otherwise.

He can recall feeling lost in the battles after his eyesight went, asking where the enemy was. He'll to to rely on his sense of hearing this go around, he figures. ]

I appreciate the confidence, Noct, but we both know that I won't be able to fight the same as before.

Do you have a place in mind?

We could try one of the temples? I usually do training at Rawna's, so they're used to seeing me around.

[Big shocker, he uses the Draconian's gifted magic at the dragon temple.]

We can start today, if you wanna finish up here. [Soon as he scarfs down the rest of his tart.]

[ Big shocker indeed. Somehow, he's not too surprised.

How long have they been sitting here anyway? It feels like a while. Hours? Ever since Ignis himself had gotten in. ]

I'm afraid it might be a bit hard to move. [ he gestures to the cat that had taken residence at his side.

he gives a small nod of his head ] That sounds like a plan.

Oh, that's easy. Ditto, scoot. We're heading out.

[The little cat that had replaced Rio meows plaintively, stretches out, then... poofs out of existence with a little burst of sparkles and smoke. Noctis smirks, unsurprised by the cat's dramatic habits by now.]

There you go, problem solved.

[ Well, he most certainly heard that. He gives a look of confusion, but doesn't voice the question.

His own cake is long gone, eaten while they were talking. ]

Shall we get going? [ he muses then, not getting up unless if Noctis is ready to go. ]

I'm game. One sec-

[He taps at his communicator for a moment to take care of the bill, then stands up, hesitating at first before offering his hand out.]

Want some help getting around? I don't know why they didn't give you your stick, but maybe we can find you something else in town on the way.

[ With that, he carefully gets up, giving himself a moment to stretch out his legs. He hears the offer, but doesn't see the hand being offered to him.

He gives a small nod. ] That would be wise for now.

[He doesn't really like to just grab Ignis unprompted- it's for self-preservation as it is for courtesy, since Ignis has some of the fastest reflexes he knows and he'd rather not end up with a dagger in the gut. With permission though, he pats Ignis by the elbow and lopes their arms together to guide him out of the cafe and down the street. He'll point out noteworthy locations as they go, streets and directions; safe to say he's gotten better at helping Ignis navigate during the previous months spent here, where he had a chance to learn the best way to go about doing so.]

[ Hey now, he knows it's you, Noct, he's not going to go staby staby on you. Sseesshh, have a little faith.

Considering the world that they're in, he doesn't mind the contact since people probably wouldn't think anything of it. He's listening to Noctis point out locations as they walk around, trying to take mental notes of places and streets later as they're described to him. Trying to visualize said things and places in the back of his mind. ]

Noct, I... [ before he can finish that train of thought, he momentarily trips over something - probably a small pebble - but he doesn't fall. He quickly catches himself and his own grip tightens on Noctis' arm. ]

Apologies. [ They had been super caught up in exploring the town that Ignis had forgotten for a second to watch himself. Well, watch in the way where he's blind. He had forgotten that he was blind for a moment there since he's in good company. ] That was careless of me.

[Call it a lifetime of knowing you're a political target; he knows sometimes it's better to play it safe, so it's instinctive.

He's quick to help Ignis straighten up, strong enough to support them both and keep from falling, thankfully.]

Don't worry about it. You're still getting used to the place, give it some time.

Indeed I am.

[ He takes a moment to get back into his train of thought as they walk again. ]

Things moved rather quickly after Altissia, [ he begins slowly. ] I never did get to thank you for taking me along.

[ he takes a small pause, musing over his own thoughts for a second. ] I didn't want to be a burden, but I wanted to stand with all of you. If not for myself, but for your sake too, Noct. [ After the vision he'd gotten, he still wanted to believe that he could change things despite his disability. ]

You weren't a burden, Iggy.

[Noctis exhales a half-sigh, still heading for the temple, though keeping an eye out for a shop that might have a decent walking stick or something equivalent. If not, they can commission someone later.

He doesn't exactly mind the topic, if Ignis needs to get things off his chest now that Noctis has those memories as well, but thinking about those days... it sucks. There were nothing but nightmares lingering from that time.]

We needed you with us, we just didn't always realize it. So don't talk like that, okay?

.... Noct.

[ He shifts their arms a bit, wiggling his so that his hand slides down Noctis' arm to grab onto his hand, giving it a squeeze in appreciation. he's touched, but he knows his role in the group quite well. ]

Ah yes, you all would be lost without my cooking. [ he teases lightly ]

[Somewhat shamefully, that reassurance (and tease) makes him relax again, smiling carefully.]

Not as much anymore, if you can believe it- Pyra's been helping me, and she's an amazing cook. Maybe I'll make something for you for once.

[Ignis has his own unique spin on things, but there's no denying that Pyra's food is pretty spectacular. Plus there's the cafe food which is always delicious. He's been well-fed these days, and Ignis totally deserves a break.]

[ He knows that Noctis is quite capable of cooking, but not up to his standards, in his opinion. He's too prideful of that.

Even still, he's curious. ]

I would like to know how you've improved on your cooking skills, Noct. [ aka, that's a challenge, bring on the lunch/dinner, Noctis. ]

Just don't set your expectations too high. I'm not on your level.

[He won't even add a "yet" on the end there. There's probably not enough time in the world for him to improve that much, and certainly not on a time limit like he is. Still, he kind of likes the idea of this challenge, even if he'll absolutely need Pyra's help to pull it off.]
