❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

• a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  
• we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  
• anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  
• characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  
• you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  
• check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

• players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  
• network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  
• any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  
• Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

[So they had succeeded in the end. He had succeeded in the end. Nero's previous words were not just a flippant turn of phrase. His attitude is no more aggressive than usual either. V can't help but wonder if that means he had misjudged the need to hide so much about his identity from them, though he is certain from Dante's aura when he first told the devil hunter about his mark that his reaction would be a great deal different than Nero's. It was someth-

V's mind grinds to a sudden halt as he finally processes the second part of what Nero said. There is a long moment of silence and when he finally speaks, his voice comes out tight and a lot more shocked than he would like it to be.]

Yeah, that's what I said. [Along with several other choice words.] Dante decided to wait until the last minute to tell me--dumbass uncle in every family, I guess.

[Sometimes it's either be cavalier or go crazy.]

Turns out Vergil's my deadbeat dad. That's who you're part of, isn't it? [If ever a question was rhetorical-]

[If there was a time to hide things from Nero, V knows it is now passed. Continuing to insist he is something other than he is will only anger the young man who may well be his only real ally in this strange place. Besides, alienating someone who appears to be farther along in their timeline than him would be a foolish decision. Where else might he find more information on how things went?

V takes a step back and then drops into an elegant bow, cane spinning in his hand in a gesture that might seem far too familiar to Nero. Of course, the last time he saw said gesture the person making it was spinning something much sharper than a cane.]

And here Griffon thought the name was far too boring. Did none of you ever stop to wonder why a book of Blake poetry had a "V" scratched into the cover? I quoted from it often enough.

[Of course, V would be lying if he was surprised that Dante had not recognized the book. For all his acceptance of his humanity, his brother and details did not mix all that well.

He straightens from the bow, bringing the cane to rest against the ground beside him.]

I am the humanity he so desperately wished to be rid of, everything he blamed for holding him back on his quest to gain power.

Why the fuck would I ever think to ask about that?

[nero is many things, few of which are 'detail-oriented'.]

Yeah. I get the general picture now. Had to kick everyone's ass so they'd stop fighting like stupid kids.

[V lets out a sigh of long suffering. Well, if Nero was going to share any trait with Dante, lack of detail-orientation is not the worst thing.

He can't help but smirk just slightly as Nero continues, though]

Those of Sparda's blood are doomed to fight to the death.

[Some things never change.]

[Nero thought about matching that sigh with one of his own but instead he reached out...]

[...and smacked V upside the head.]

That's stupid, and so are both of you. All three of you. Whatever.

[The blow catches V so off guard that he has no time to steel his weakened body in order to keep his feet. His cane goes clattering to the ground, and he ends up in an undignified heap not far from it. He doesn't try to get up again immediately, but does shoot a glare up at Nero through the hair he hasn't even taken a moment to brush back out of his eyes.]

At this rate, you are going to do more damage than him.

[Oh, he can just hear Griffon's mocking squawks and the bird brain isn't even there.]

[That time Nero sighed, leaning over to pick up V's cane and help him back to his feet.]

If that's supposed to be your destiny, it's fucking stupid. What, are the fate police going to roll up sirens blaring because you and Dante didn't stab each other for ten minutes?

...Because I'm pretty sure they didn't.

[For a split second, V almost ignores the offered assistance, but in the end, he takes Nero's hand and allows himself to be pulled up. Who knows what the kid might do if he doesn't accept? He'd rather not end up tossed over Nero's shoulder in some kind of fireman's carry.

Once standing, he takes a moment to run his hand through his hair--another gesture Nero may find familiar--and then finally responds.]

Don't you know that all fates have certain clauses written into them?

When the world is in peril, the sons of Sparda shall stop stabbing each other to stab other things. Once the world has been saved, they shall be free to resume stabbing each other.

[Is he...quoting something? It sure sounds like it, but...

What? It makes about as much sense as anything else does.]

[V shrugs casually, the smallest bit of a smirk returning to his face.]

It's either that or believing Dante is the fate police himself.

[He can certainly be the fun police. Depending on one's idea of 'fun' that is.]

You would think the boy thought he was going to die if we weren't sparring every minute of the day.

Well, if it is any consolation, I do intend to have a few words with him once we are reunited.

[V shrugs.]

Mind you, I can make no guarantee he will listen. He's got a good many years of practice doing the exact opposite of that, and your own retelling of events suggests, if nothing else, it may take some time to break through.
