October (Lasohm) Fourth Wall Log

❥ Speaking of Wall Breaking...

The ghosts in town sure are weird, huh? But they're settling down, as the month draws to a close. They're becoming less anxious and random, their behaviour growing sort of… focused. As time passes some of them begin to develop features. They can interact with the world more consistently. You can… hear their voice.

And then suddenly they are people, real and physical and just as confused to be here as you are. They could be anyone, from your world, someone else's world, a place you've never heard of… some of them could even be you, from a different universe, a different timeline, an unknown reality. What does all this mean?

IT'S FOURTH WALL, Y'ALL. Tell your friends, people interested in apping or just playing around in the setting, anybody! Time to break the wall down and have some fun.

This post serves as a replacement for the usual Test Drive Meme, in order to consolidate the chaos a bit. Though it is being posted now, timeline-wise, this shift will occur ONLY during the weekend prior to applications opening: October 30th to November 2nd, after which point characters will either disappear or become permanent residents via the application process. This also means that the rest of the event effects will have worn off, and characters will be their normal selves through the duration of this prompt.

Some ground rules for the 4th Wall event:

For characters/accounts not in-game:

• a character does not have to meet application qualifications to post to the 4th Wall Event, except in cases where there is an intent to apply when applications open. Duplicates, CRAU, AU, etc. are permitted for the event.
  
• we do ask that crack shenanigans are reasonably limited, game rules are followed, and that the event involve characters only, not players or real people.
  
• anyone can toplevel! It'll be a free for all. Go wild, have fun.
  
• characters will be given a temporary, low-tech communicator for the duration of the event with limited network access, due to limited availability of the real deal.
  
• you will not arrive with any items/companions beyond the clothes that you wear
  
• check out the Setting or FAQ pages for location details! Also, have a look at the October event log, to see what else is going on these days.

For characters/accounts currently in-game:

• players can decide for themselves at the event's conclusion whether or not memories of certain visitors remain, and to what extent; memories could become fuzzy, faces or communication obscured, they could disappear entirely, or they can remain fully intact whether the person apps into the game or not.
  
• network communications with 4th Wall visitors that don't (or can't) app in will be wiped, with the locals citing a data error related to the older communicators being used. Technology can be unpredictable, huh!
  
• any communication exchanges that you WANT to keep can remain with some discretion; for example, if a spouse visits and you happen to take a selfie with them, and they do not (or cannot) app but having that photo of them would give you comfort, feel free to keep it.
  
• Similar to the TDM, 4th wall threads cannot be used for AC or AC Reward purposes unless it is between characters already in-game.

[You know, he's heard enough about this place to know that some people might not know what a phone is, but it's still very bizarre to hear that question, especially in what sounds like a Galarian accent, though perhaps from a different city than Hammerlocke. Raihan shows that confusion with a bewildered expression, but he soon smoothes it over with a friendly smile as he approaches.

... And he should probably crouch down, seeing how he's a whole 6'8" and she's sitting on a bench, so he does once he's close enough.]

Taking selfies. Or, er, pictures of myself. [He opens up the gallery and holds the phone out, swiping through to show her the latest pics of him grinning and posing in front of a building or landmark.] See? The device is a phone, but it's also a camera. [And many other things, but most of them arEN'T WORKING.]

[Yeah, Dot's voice has more of a Liverpool Hulbury sort of vibe. But anyway, geez louise she could tell you were tall but it's a whole 'nother story when you're towering over her. You might just be the tallest person she's ever met, my dude. It takes her a second to process.]

Is that right...? So, something like those communicators, then. Ah, this technology is really remarkable. [Portable telephones, complete with cameras, no less! What a world! She watches as Raihan swipes through the pictures, then glances up at him. He's smiling, even now, but there’s a tension to it.]

...you’re pretty good at faking a smile. [She offers a empathetic little smile of her own.] Did you just arrive here?

[Yeah... Yeah, he gets that a lot.

And... ah. That's a statement he does not get a lot, because he is good at it. Usually people can't even tell, but usually he's not completely separated from his home, his team, and his friends with no way to return to them.

His smile falters a bit because of it, then he lets it drop as he sighs, instead making a face that looks almost like a resigned pout.]

And you're pretty darn perceptive. You're right. I got here about... [He glances down at the clock on his phone: phone, camera, and clock!] - two hours ago?

[connectsthedots]

[A soft chuckle, almost a little apologetic.] It comes with the job.

[Her eyes follow his back down to the phone. Oh! How convenient!] I only recently arrived here myself – a month and a half ago or so? – and I was none too happy about it. I gather this sort of thing happens fairly regularly, but there definitely seems to be more of a crowd this go around than I was lead to expect. Most peculiar.

[At the mention of how long she's been here, Raihan swipes the screen over to look at the calendar - except it doesn't make sense, all ??? and glitched out symbols on the screen instead.

He'll just swipe it back to the clock with a bit of a grimace.]

Yeah? So this place snatches up folks without their consent on the regular?

That it does, unfortunately. It brings in people – and creatures – from all sorts of times and places. Some folks have even been here over a year's time! I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. [She sighs a little dejectedly, but perks up as a new thought hits her.]

Speaking of times and places, though! If it isn't too intrusive, might I ask where it is you're from? Your accent sounds Scottish, but you know what they say about assuming.

[draigon]

[At that particular revelation, Raihan stares for moment, slack-jawed, then lets out a groan as he tilts his head back and pulls his beanie down over his eyes.]

I can't be here that long. [It's quiet, meant more for himself than her. What will everyone do if he's here for a year? Longer? Will he just be assumed dead? Will they find another gym leader to take his place? And his Pokémon, what will happen to them? Will Leon find another rival?

No no no, this can't happen!

His fingers bunch in his beanie, though they stop when she asks about his accent. Right... right. There's someone here with him, and he can't look this uncool in front of her. So he takes in a deep breath. Two. Then pulls his beanie back up, his expression puzzled, as if that mini break down didn't just happen.]

Scottish? No, I haven't even heard o' that. This is Hammerlockan where I'm from. [He gives a tip of his head.] And your accent sounds like ya from Hulberry, but that's not the case for you, innit?

[Dot watches patiently, respectfully. Lord knows she had her own breakdown or two when she first got here. When he finally looks back at her, her curious expression doesn’t falter. Pretending she didn’t see anything was the smallest courtesy she could offer him.]

No, I've never heard of Hulberry, either. I'm from Liverpool originally, though I've been living in London for some years now. [She taps her chin thoughtfully before pulling out a small pen and notebook and beginning to take down notes.] How fascinating. So we recognize each other’s accents, but not the places they’re from. Like our worlds are similar but not quite the same. Will you tell me more about yours?
