♥ July (Lasdia) Event Log

July (Lasdia) Event Log
Lasdia is here, and with it, the summer heat! Buy a fan, get some AC, cool down by jumping in the new pond that apparently exists on the west side of the city now, or the public baths' open pool. By all estimations, it's going to be a hot one, but the robotic residents are not certain as to what's changed to make it so. Some have pondered if it has anything to do with the barrier shifts, others theorize that it's simply a matter of sun cycles. Regardless, they're working hard to make sure everyone has access to sunscreen this summer.
Also worth noting, the numerous shifts in city culture that have been in place since July's World Status went live are still occurring, so characters might not find Havenwell especially friendly this month. Try not to take it too personally.
❥ PROMPT I: Ruining My Immersion

All around Havenwell, offworlders are looking a little bit different lately. One might just find their friends or family to have changed drastically; your neighbor across the street could look like an ink-and-paper drawing, while you yourself could find your own appearance straight out of a videogame. The sudden transformation isn't painful or uncomfortable, but it might be difficult to do things like open doors or hold objects if one finds themselves to be a two-dimensional comic book page or a blocky pile of polygons. Affected offworlders will just have to find someone to hug or hold hands with if they want to be able to go back to their normal selves anytime soon! Hopefully you still have a hand to hold, with this new form… maybe get creative with it. [Thanks to Jenn/
firstbump for the event suggestion!]

❥ PROMPT II: Sunflower Laser Fight

The flourishing of the city has brought with it a new variety of plantlife for the warmer season: sunflowers! This particularly tall variety of flora, in fact, seems very suddenly abundant throughout the city. They're so lively and brightly colored that they appear to be emanating light themselves… probably because they are.
Should someone draw just a little too close to the new additions to Havenwell's wildlife, they may catch themselves suddenly on the wrong end of an apparently harmless ray of light in one of several colors. In addition to being incredibly surprising, depending on the color of the light, whoever the flowers strike will find themselves under one of several effects--some new and some possibly familiar.
♥ Red- Being struck by a red light finds one suddenly rebelling against the laws of gravity--they might float a foot or two in the air, or find their next steps to be so heavy that they trip over their own feet and can't quite manage to pick themselves up again.
♥ Blue- Some may encounter a blue light, which upon contact will revert or advance one in age an undetermined number of years. Be careful, or you might suddenly find yourself reliving your embarrassing teenage years! (Whether character memories match their physical ages is up to player discretion.)
♥ Purple- When [CHARACTER] encountered a peculiar flower that so rudely shot them with a purple light, [CHARACTER] began to hear a dashing yet peculiar voice unique to them, narrating the events of their day. No matter how mundane, how exciting, wherever they went and whatever they did, the voice followed them and narrated every. Single. Thing. That. Occurred. Although perhaps the narrative was not always accurate--it might have proclaimed [CHARACTER] was going to have a refreshing glass of orange juice, only to be annoyed when they opt for coffee out of sheer spite. Such would the day continue, until the one hearing such well-articulated narration finally rid themselves of it via the usual extended physical touch.
♥ Green- To be touched by a green light is a curious thing, giving the afflicted the compulsion to sing! In any given situation, an offworlder may break out into a song appropriate to their current situation. Whether they can sing or already know it is irrelevant; if it remotely suits the goings-on, it's fair game for them to pick up and carry a tune as far as it can go.

❥ PROMPT III: Underneath the Purple Rain

Once again, Havenwell's unconventional weather patterns rear their head, and the summer rain is not always as refreshing as it should be. In fact, the season brings with it peculiar showers--acid rain, to be exact. While it can and does cause some structural erosion and sunburn-level damage to objects and people, the sudden rain can also inexplicably improve things. Buildings may become sturdier, the ground a little more even, or perhaps that case of the seasonal sniffles you've been feeling disappears like a summer stormcloud. The effects are polar opposites with no visual difference in the weather that indicates one or the other; the only way to find out is to watch the surroundings carefully or just get caught in the rain yourself.
This event will run from July 15-30. Click on each prompt's title to see the text. If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to the FAQ or to the Mod Question thread. You can also use the Havenwell Status page or the General Plotting Comment to give you other ideas for original prompts!

There's still a bit of harmonious humming coming from behind his hand, but the look Shinji's giving Kai for that little remark is pretty flat regardless. Hey, now! He's still giving Kai's hand a fond squeeze, but come on.
no subject
"Dunno why you're givin' me that look," Kai said. He was sure digging himself a hole now. "Is it a crime to think my boyfriend's singing is charming?"
no subject
It's very lucky that Shinji's willing to cut him even more slack than normal after the whole coma-business, though under normal circumstances this probably wouldn't even come close to toeing the line. Regardless, Shinji shakes his head a little, but if it's a 'no, it's not a crime', or 'no, it's not charming' might not be clear. He... he probably means the latter, but. Uh. He can't exactly say as much.
no subject
The answer was clear though, don't worry.
"So it's not a crime. Good, glad to have that cleared up. Thanks."
no subject
To be fair to Kai, it's not a crime. It's just embarrassing! Is this what you want? To embarrass your boyfriend?? Because that's exactly what's happening! Shinji slides his way over to Kai's side in order to give his arm a gentle nudge with his own as if to say 'Hey!' while still keeping his lips as tightly sealed as possible.
no subject
Kai laughed at the nudge, reading its intention loud and clear. "It is though," he protested with a wide grin. "But I kinda want to keep it all to myself, so let's hide you away somewhere 'till it blows over."
It'd be hard to tell if holding hands was working if Shinji wasn't comfortable with trying to speak out in public, after all. Lucky him, Kai was here to be an escort and an interpreter on this journey to elsewhere.
no subject
Even if the idea of going somewhere a little more private to wait this out is appealing on its own, having Kai put it like that, that he wants to keep it for himself... It's even more embarrassing! But the kind of embarrassing that Shinji, maybe, wants to indulge him in a little. Just a little.
Which means that even after that quip, he's very willingly following Kai's lead. let's find somewhere more secluded to shake those last songs out of him.
no subject
And maybe his sake if the way his grin curved as Shinji followed after him meant anything.
Off they went. It was roughly in home's direction. Surely, if they were committed to going strictly from point A to point be, they would definitely make it home. There was something alluring about taking a detour though, stepping off into one of the quiet side streets along the way. For now it was safe to say it was just them enjoying the walk.
Which was probably why Kai felt bold enough to pull them under the shade of a building, swooping in to press a kiss against Shinji's cheek with a grin.
no subject
"If it's only for you, I don't mind," here comes a new melody, soft and airy and quiet enough that only Kaito could really hear it even if they weren't largely by themselves at this point. He reaches up with his free hand to gingerly rest at the side of Kai's neck, and while the bashfulness is still clear on his face, he continues with the song - a reward for all that charming flattery he's been laying down. "Just a small song, for someone so kind."
no subject
He was too hecking cute, he couldn't stand it. How did this happen. Kai didn't even notice how hot his own face became.
"Thank you," Kai hummed softly, smiling. "For making me so kind."
no subject
Shinji's still a little wary of trying to say as much with words, though, so he instead opts to slip his hand up to Kai's cheek, giving it a gentle pat as if to say 'Don't sell yourself short.' And... as long as they aren't going to be spotted by anyone, why can't Shinji take a chance here - he lifts his heels a touch to close the distance between them and give Kai a quick peck on the lips.
"Love you," he mumbles softly on the heels of one last sing-songy hum. Ah, that's better all ready. "I'm pretty sure you were kind before me, though."
no subject
"Love you," Kai countered in a low rumble, a content grin left on his face as he slid his unoccupied hand around Shinji's waist. Ah, it sounded like his songbird had finally had its fill though. Cute as it had been, this was still a relief. He really preferred Shinji wanting to talk with him.
"That's debatable though. Pretty sure you've got a bias."
no subject
"But, you're the one who decided for yourself to make sure that I wasn't lonely in the first place."
There was no love based motivation for that initial desire. Ergo, Kaito is a kind person by nature.
"Which you've done a very good job of, by the way."
no subject
He chuckled as if that would dispel the creep of pink in his cheeks. "Well that's good. That's the primary objective after all."
no subject
"Hmm." Despite any lingering blush on his own cheeks, he can't help but feel a small rush of satisfaction at watching that color bloom on Kai's face. How cute... "I don't think I'm the only person you've done it for, either. It must be something you have a knack for."
no subject
"Geez. Saying I have a knack for it is a bit out there, y'know." What an extremely flattering way to say he was Obnoxious!
no subject
"I just don't want you to sell your strengths short." Kaito has so many good points, it stinks that he doesn't see them in himself. He has a lot worth praising! So Shinji's going to praise him! "But if it's too much to hear all at once, I'll just admire them quietly."
no subject
no subject
The pull is nice, but at the same time reminds him that they are still in public, even if they've tucked themselves away for now. There's a part of him that would like to just keep leaning in to that hold, but... perhaps they're getting close to enough risky flirting for the day.
"Keeping your confidence up is part of my job," he says, bringing his hand up to lightly pat at Kai's cheek. "It's the least I can do when you're always saving me and helping me out."
