August (Achtom) Event Log
Ah, summer. That lovely time of year where the bright sun in the clear blue sky makes you want to head to the beach, catch a tan (hopefully), and relax with a good book. While there may not be a beach in Havenwell (other than in the VR simulators!), the summer sun is definitely out in full force by Achtom as Diacht's power begins to wane. The crystal clear skies do seem to encourage people to go out and the locals, who can't feel the temperature, seem to be bustling about as they continue to clean and improve the newly opened areas. All this activity might be a bit much for the offworlders, however, because as the month turns from Lasdia to Achtom, the temperatures start to rise and rise and don't seem to be stopping anytime soon.
❥ PROMPT I: Staying Cool in the Neighborhood
A massive heatwave that comes and goes throughout the month seems to have gripped Havenwell! While they themselves cannot feel the heat, the natives can observe the effects it has on the offworlders and are quick to find methods to help them beat the heat. Scientists out of the research centers throughout the city develop and then begin promoting cooling drinks and cool packs that they sell at the temples, city centers, entertainment districts, outside their research centers, and other areas where offworlders tend to gather. These drinks and packs do seem to work well in beating the heat thankfully, and either imbibing the drinks or using the cool packs quickly help you ward off the rising temperatures. You're welcome to try and cool off on your own terms, but the unnatural heat will likely leave you lethargic and gross, if not outright sick, if you go too long without some outside support. There seems to be very little long-term relief to be found.
Unfortunately, for some people, they find that these drinks and packs are working too well. Weird quirks and side effects pop up and fade out at random, sometimes even compiling on top of each other! They never seem to last for very long, thankfully, but it can be a bit inconvenient when the following happens to you:

- You've beaten the heat and feel a cooling rush of relief as the heat escapes your body. But then the heat gives way to cold and that cold leaves your teeth chattering as you realize you can no longer regulate your body temperature and your body is quickly reaching wintery levels! Better find someone to help you warm up because you'll need to share body heat until this effect wears off in order to keep your lips from turning blue!
- Ah, that sweet sweet cooling relief radiates out from your core, pushing the heat out from the inside. It feels great to be this pleasantly cool while the summer heat beats down on you - until you touch something and it bursts into flame. Apparently the only way to get rid of all that heat is through transferring it to something else! Any inanimate object you touch (no people or animals!) starts to smoke and burn when your hands come into contact with it. Metals start to melt, your ice cold drink starts to boil, that nice little teddy bear you got starts to blacken and burn - it's a bit insane! Thankfully, your clothes and accessories you're wearing at the time the side effect takes hold don't seem to be subject to this inconvenience. You'll need some help to get about your day until the effect fades - which thankfully isn't that long! At most it lasts an hour, but an hour can seem very very long when you can't get your morning coffee in you.
- Do you know how your body naturally cools itself? Through sweat! And you're certainly sweating a lot now that the summer heat has taken its toll. After taking the scientists' concoctions, however, you might notice that, while you're definitely noticeable cooler, you've also ramped up the amount of sweat you're producing - to almost insane levels. Your hands are slippery, your feet are slippery, and even if you're wearing shoes, it seems to be leaking through, absolutely robbing you of any and all friction as you slip and slide around the city! Better have someone who can grab onto you and help you get about until the sweating abates or you'll find yourself careening around and into things willy-nilly.

The trend of offworlder goods being popular among the locals seems to be continuing with a new and weird trend in the entertainment district markets. Huggably cute, teddy-bear sized stuffed plushies in the offworlders' likenesses are being sold at various stores, but no one seems to know where they're coming from (or are just completely unwilling to give up their sources). These little pushies are insanely popular with the locals, with some special edition ones with various limited edition costumes going for a premium in Dora and getting traded among collectors. For those familiar, think of the old Beanie Baby craze, and you'll know just how dogged some of the collectors can be as they try to complete their offworlder sets. Of course, the locals aren't the only ones buying up these adorable little dolls and offworlders can find likenesses of themselves and their friends who are still in the city being sold at stores quite easily.
While it may be a weird diversion for some offworlders, for others, they may find something else that raises their hackles about this new toy trend. On occasion, people may start to feel phantom hugs, the feeling of someone giving them a lovely little squeeze, as they go about their day. While this doesn't count for contact, it's certainly weird to be alone and then suddenly feel someone you can't see hug you. Observant people might realize that this all started with the introduction of these plushies to the market, and through trial and error realize that they have some sort of connection to some plushies that share their likeness. If having phantom hugs isn't your thing, then it's time to go find whoever has your connected plushie and either get it back from them or sever the connection somehow! Thankfully only positive contact can be communicated through the plushie, so any damage or violence (why would you??) done to it isn't reflected via the connection.
But how does one sever the connection? Well, that's a bit of a problem because the merchants are absolutely baffled by this phenomenon. Any dolls they've sold to locals don't seem to be experiencing this issue - only ones sold to other offworlders. ❥ PROMPT III: The Factory Tour
After concerted efforts to clean and repair the Factory, it seems it's finally open for business. Mostly. Through the efforts of the locals and the offworlders, the Factory machinery is back up and running, and the locals are thoroughly charmed by just how old it all is. As in, super old. They had stopped using this smelting and refining technology centuries ago for a very important reason: most of the machinery requires touch between two or more participants in order to work. This unique method of operation will require some tutoring to get used to, however, so anyone interested in learning must sign up with the de facto owners of the Factory in order to learn. It isn't easy to be both the power source AND the operator, but with enough practice, they're sure you can learn to master this age-old technique!
There are two types of classes running for those interested: Forging Basics, where you learn how to power and heat the forge to melt and create simple metal objects at first like spoons and rods, and Smelting Basics, where you learn how to power and smelt common ore like copper and iron into useable metals for the forge. For the Forge Classes, characters will need to stay in contact with each other to power the heat in the forge - which is a strange rainbow-colored fire. The longer they're in contact with one another, the longer the fire will stay lit, and the hotter the flame will get. Characters should keep one hand on the handles outside the forge, and their other hand on each other. For example, 15 minutes of contact in this method would translate to 30 minutes of continuous forge power. The characters can adjust the flame intensity by squeezing the handles in unison, a lighter touch will lower the intensity and a harder touch will increase it. Learning to get this touch and the timing down for the correct forging of metals is one of the hardest parts of the lessons and what the classes will primarily focus on. For the Smelting Classes, characters will need to learn how to power the smelting machinery through a method similar to the Forging Classes - one hand on each other and the other one the machinery handles. This time, however, the finesse and focus of the class is in learning how to use sensitive touch in unison to add the correct amounts of each ore and other materials to result in the purest form of metal ingot in the end.
You will need a partner to sign up for either class, but partners can also be randomly assigned. If you're interested, please sign up! The lessons themselves are largely handwaved, but in order to use the Factory equipment in the future, you must perform a thread between yourself and at least one other person where you learn the basics via these classes. Additionally, throughout the month at rare and random times, people who are within or in the immediate proximity of the Factory can feel the ground tremor and bump. The movement isn't large enough to knock anything over or cause any damage, and could easily be dismissed as something large passing by - except that there are no trucks that rumble in the streets. Locals are just as baffled about this phenomenon, but attribute it to perhaps the clunky old machinery thumping too loudly. Those within the Factory and near the mineshaft can on occasion hear a rumbling noise from deep within the mineshaft entrance beyond the barrier which throws a bit of doubt on the idea of the machinery being the cause.

[ The heat is unforgiving, enough so that when he first leaves his apartment for the day, Nyx turns around to walk right back into it to discard his jacket and scarf. Now out and about the city with a black t-shirt and slacks, he doesn't think twice about purchasing a drink to quench his thirst.... and that's when it all goes downhill.
He feels almost frozen in place, face pale, teeth chattering, and barely able to lift his arms away from himself in an effort to conserve body heat. However, having been here a month, Nyx knows that the key to most of these shenanigans is touch. ]

[ That's right, after being rescued himself from the cold by someone, he had trekked all the way back to his apartment to bring a quilt and a thermos of hot coffee to tote with him, looking out for others in need. When Nyx is shown kindness and assistance, he makes a point of paying it forward.
As for the coffee... it's black, bitter, awakening and artificial, just like the good ol' crap they served in the military. It's positively nostalgic to him. ]

It's an illusion on her body's part. Cloud Strife | OTA except for one prompt
[How does time work in this place? Cloud’s not sure. All he knows is that today he has turned 22…..maybe? Does that count in this place?
Not that he remembers his birthdays for the past few years. Or rather, he tried to remember and was suddenly hit with a splitting headache. When the pain receded, he rationalised it by telling himself that he was too busy to celebrate them. After all, he had to make a living. Besides, the person he would celebrate it with wasn’t around anymore. Cloud knew that better than anyone.
After all, he was right there when his mother was killed. And he had failed to stop it.
“You are too weak to save anyone.”
And Cloud had to suppress yet another headache. He’s fine, he tells himself. He got into SOLDIER. He made it to First Class. He’s strong. He wouldn’t be if he hadn’t joined SOLDIER. These headaches, these flashbacks, they’ll all go away…..right? And so he decides to distract himself somehow.
Which is why he’s examining the Knight’s Knight game right now. He’s played some of the other VR games already but this one is a little different. Sounds more like those VR simulations that Chadley gave him to get summon spells – just more of an adventure game with heroic stuff. And it sounds like it could be fun.

[Cloud signed up for the classes hoping he’d find more about what’s going on in this world and while disappointingly he hasn’t discovered anything beyond “old factory is now running again”, it might not hurt to learn something different for a change. The factory certainly doesn’t seem to be doing anything harmful.

Allowing herself to be paired up randomly for it... well, that was just another way Lup wanted to prod her into being more... sociable with others. If she could do it with her work at the cafe, she could do that here as well. Mostly, she had been observing the machinery, looking for any differences that it might have from an "ordinary" smelting device and the sorts of equipment that she was more familiar with out of curiosity.
And then her partner for the lesson speaks up, so she turns her attention back toward him. At a quick glance, he'd reminded her of someone else, but she thinks she must have seen him somewhere before. ]

[ Those visiting the factory from time to time may notice a small triangular shaped scouter like machine* that seems to be... well, floating around and scanning the area, sometimes making a series of robotic noises depending on its action.
Though if one follows it back, they might realize it would eventually lead them to Honerva's vicinity, who has been spending more time at the Factory now that she's had more time to focus on it, from taking interest in the lessons, to studying the machines themselves, and of course, who could ignore the siren call of... well. Investigating the suspicious tremors and the mineshaft. At least, she'll occasionally be found looking toward it and trying to keep track of how many disruptions there seem to be, but it's not easy getting that sort of information from the natives, either.
Mostly though, she's there to study or lend her hand toward any work that may be ongoing. ]

Magolor (Diacht) / OTA
[There are benefits and downsides on this planet to not having a human anatomy. This month's heat wave somewhat leaves Magolor on the benefiting side of things: he's just not as susceptible to heat as a human being. Since he's not sick or dying, he's a little more free to ignore paying for any of the remedies . . . and so he does, which leaves him, while not in any danger, very very grumpy about how hot it is.
The normally helpful and perky Magolor, always eager to make a buck off physical contact and put himself at the center of things, might be found doing any of the following instead:]

[Another Little Magolor Thing™ is that he can't sweat himself, concoction or otherwise. He cools off by panting in a pinch—so, you just might catch him huddled up in what he thinks is a private enough corner of the city with his scarf unbuckled and pulled down so he can get some air. After a year, he's still pretty meticulous about keeping his teeth (gear bonus not included) hidden, but this is just too much. Even keeping to the shadows did little to help.So when one of the locals offers him a drink to help stave off the heat, Sasuke drinks it gratefully. The food at the party had been fine, so he doesn't think anything of it.... However, the cool drink quickly makes him feel like he stands in the middle of a blizzard once he finishes it. Regret floods him just as quickly as the cold. Sasuke rubs his arms, but no amount of friction brings any relief. ]

Normally the heat wasn't really an issue for Kaito. He was a summer boy through and through (check out those summer freckles!), but this was starting to get to be kind of much. Even riding wasn't really helping, as the breezes blowing past were just. Blech. Too Warm.
And so the siren call of drinks was too much to ignore.
A. Chilly: Summer wasn't a cold time, so this one really throws him for a loop. It's time to stop, drop, and hunker down in the sunniest sun beam he can find while he shivers and shakes. Then again he could be at home, burrowing himself under two blankets on the couch. Then again, he might have been on his way to drop by a Kyoko-esque home already, making his knocking a bit more hurried as he chattered at her doorstep.
Or maybe you are the chilly one! Here's a Very Warm hand at your shoulder. Wow, how cozy that felt. "Hey, you good?"
B. Don't read into being hot and wet: If either of these are happening, he's actively avoiding folks. He's already had his share of elemental accidents, thanks, he doesn't need more. And this one seems like it is actually a weird thing? Which means he can't figure out how to control it? Which sucks???? So let's not! He's either going to be a grumpy stoop squatter if he's blowing things up, or a grumpy lump sprawled out on whatever patch of grass he can find. It's swampland now. Great.
II. Squashing
First of all, why would you own a plush of him. Second of all, why would you hug it. These are truly baffling mysteries, so phantom hugs are true enigmas.

Keeping cool had never been an issue. Not when you had control over water and ice and could summon them both at will. After finding a nice empty area close to where he was living, Devon built his own personal swimming pool. The edges of the pool were made out of literal ice, though it didn't appear to be melting. The ice did, however keep the water filling the pool at a lovely cool temperature. Devon was lounging inside, completely content, while Aquaras dove and splashed like a dolphin. The tiny dragon was making quite a scene with her aerial leaps and spins. Even though Devon couldn't fully see what was happening, he could picture it well enough to be outright laughing over her antics.
B:
As the temperatures had initially skyrocketed, Devon hadn't had any issue keeping cool. Being a mage specializing in water and ice has its benefits after all. However, after a few days of the scorching heat, staying surrounded by water and frozen clothing started to lose its effectiveness. He'd decided to splurge on one of the cooling drinks that the locals were offering. They'd worked wonderfully for a few hours. So wonderfully, in fact, that he'd been able to remove all the frozen water from his clothing.
As he wandered the streets an icy chill started to settle in. Cold wasn't a big problem at home. At first he ignored it, assuming continuing to move will help him warm up. Before long though he was forced to summon a small ball of fire in his hand and hope the heat from that would help. It didn't do all that much good. His skin is still pale, his lips have taken on a distinctly blue tint, and he was moving rather slowly and unsteadily through the streets. If this kept up he would probably end up curled into a corner pretty soon.
B
But instead of thinking about the gods right now, Minato wants to make sure that people who are setting things on fire don't get hurt or hurt anyone else. He doesn't quite expect anyone, Devon included, to be shivering or turning a bit blue despite the heat.
"Devon. Are you all right?"
Minato's sure Devon can recognize his voice. He just hopes that it's enough to catch his attention through the cold Devon seems to be experiencing.

[The heat was horrible, and Libra found himself ditching his normal monk clothes for something more appropriate, and still found himself overheating. Leaving his home to maybe find something to relieve the heat, he even finds himself tying his hair back to keep it off his neck.
Finding a place selling drinks, he buys one and settles on a nearby seat to enjoy it, trying to hide in any shade around. Taking a drink, he sighs in relief at the feeling of cold going through his body.
It doesn't take long for him to realize something's off, as he starts shivering a bit after finishing the drink. Flagging down a nearby offworlder, he tries to smile, but it probably looks like a grimace.]

Ahh, the heat is rough when you've always got on a fur coat! Hummy was shuffling around town trying to find some shade when a robot offered her a drink. Not one to turn down the kindness of strangers, she gladly accepted and gulped it down. And now? Well, now she's fur-eezing! Sorry, that was bad. But seriously, though, Hummy is really cold and she can't figure out why. What's worse, moving around doesn't seem to help and the chill is getting to be more than her tiny body can bear.

A large, almost seven foot tall, rushes towards you and stops short, body low enough that he has to look up pleadingly at you. He whines, cries, and makes other noises of distress. He then ever so gently takes an arm or a piece of clothing in his mouth and slowly tugs them towards the direction he came in.
Seto turns and lays down, glancing over his shoulder at his back, bidding the person get on (yes, bareback). If they do get on, he'll start trotting at a quick pace, and if they refuse, he'll just lead them in the right direction without any more insistence. His destination is only a couple of blocks away: Ardbert laying sideways on a bench, arms wrapped around his legs pulled up to his chest, attemping to stymie his escaping body heat.
It isn't working, judging by his shivering form and the dropped communicator on the ground below him. Seto cries in dismay as he arrives with the requested "living person". He bumps his snout into Ardbert's arms, but even Ardbert bringing up a hand to stroke it only calms Seto a little.
"T-Touch." Ardbert explains through chattering teeth. "Please...."

[So, it's summer. It's warm outside, this is nothing Giyu can't handle. It's fine... It's not fine. The heatwave blasting Havenwell is UNNATURAL, and even if Giyu tries very hard to pretend he's not bothered by it, it's only a matter of time before he's groaning like he's nauseous and lying face-down in the shade of... Well, anything, really. Buildings, trees, maybe someone standing in the same spot for just a minute too long, he's not picky. Even though he doesn't stay in one spot for very long, because you can't beat this heat without the locals' help, he's very determined to keep to himself. A mistake.
On the off-chance that you don't spot him

[But science comes to the rescue! Or so he thought. He tries one of the experimental drinks being sold all over the city... And it works! For one wonderful moment Giyu isn't burning up, but then he starts sweating. And sweating. It's so noticeable that the poor local who sold him the drink apologizes profusely and tries to sympathetically pat him on the shoulder, but their hand slips right off. G... Gross!? They're panicking, Giyu's causing a scene by just standing there with a blank expression on his face while they start frantically trying to contact one of the scientists responsible to give appropriate feedback... It's a mess. He's got to get out of there.
Giyu actually looks horrified that he's sweating so much and quietly turns to leave, but... The sweat. Has BENT THE LAWS OF PHYSICS. He takes a step and promptly slips on nothing, but it's not until he tries to stand back up that he realizes that he's sweating so much that he is actually slippery. AND HE JUST KEEPS GOING. At least it's so warm outside that he doesn't leave a puddle behind, but somehow he's accidentally launched himself down the sidewalk. Please help him. Either before or after he slides into something that should stop him, but he just keeps going. He's not sliding particularly fast or anything, so he's not hurt, but... He sure does look annoyed.]

He spends a good while staring at it with some sort of Complex Look on his face.]

For someone exuding sweltering heat all the time, the common assumption will be that Yuuji's a lot more tolerant than other people of Achtom's weather. It is in fact, true, and the only reason he grabbed some cooling drinks was out of habit, as people back home kept telling him to stay hydrated to prevent heatstroke. It's a good thing, but now...
