Affurgato Mingle: July edition

Regulars of Affurgato might notice things have spiced up a little bit in the last several days; the decor is a little brighter, the staff more upbeat, and the food, while tasty as ever, is a little different. The restaurant is advertising a summer menu of slow-cooked BBQ sliders, sweet potato fries with honey butter dip, grilled pineapple and watermelon slices, and warm peach cobbler with ice cream. The prices are slightly more premium than usual, but ooh, doesn't it all smell worth it? Newcomers might even get a discount, if the right elf twin gets their bill. But how do you know which one's the right twin? ...Yeah, good luck with that.

For this week, the menu will include two curious additions as well: a Thanksgiving-esque meal including fresh slabs of turkey and stuffing, flavoured with bacon grease, and a slice of rainbow layer cake. The cats are very attentive, especially to recognizably good tippers, and there's a display sign outside the door with a doodle of a binicorn in flashy sunglasses shouting the words "ONE YEAR MORE, NERDS", which might be weird to those who know that Affurgato opened about six months ago. Ah, well.

Also noteworthy is the fact that an actual, tangible magical bicicorn will be running around for the first 45 minutes of every daily shift that the restaurant is open, trying to scoop people up onto his back and deposit them in front of the shop. You're here now, so you might as well get a meal, right? Don't question it.

Come one, come all! Enjoy some good food and the company of your neighbours, maybe visit the elves and see what's up.

Sure isn't.

[Prompto's been here a while - Aellyn, that is, though he's been outside the cat cafe for a bit, mostly minding his own business. He's got a camera raised and is snapping away, totally focused on the binicorn. All thoughts of going in to grab a bite evaporated when he caught sight of the new creature prancing around outside.]

Pretty cool though!

[ ....This must be the real Prompto.

What a week. What a fucking week. His exasperation manages to slip into his expression, although it's not at him. ]

Sentient robots, this thing... You've gotten used to it?

Yep! Gotten used to a lot of things.

[Like new faces turning up every so often. Only this one has a Glaive's uniform and a vaguely familiar face. He struggles to remember if they'd ever actually met, and if he should know the guy's name. Insomnia was so long ago...]

I've been here a while.

[Here and elsewhere with similar quirks. He grins, tucking his camera away.]

[ While Nyx knows Prompto's face from, of course, being best friends with the prince back in Insomnia, they've never interacted or exchanged a set of words.

To complicate matters now, though, Prompto is technically a higher rank than Nyx since he is a Crownsguard. Nyx is merely a Kingsglaive.

Was a Kingsglaive. He has no magic now. ]

Seems like any newcomer is in for a treat. [ He begins dryly, but corrects his tone to something less familiar. ] You're Prompto.

Prompto Argentum.

You'll get the hang of it.

[He keeps his smile on, but the Glaive knows his name and he feels a bit of anxiety taking over. Oh no. Have they met before? Guy knows who he is, but he's still scraping his brain for a name that isn't coming.]

Uh, yep! That's me! [Gonna have to bite the bullet.] I'm really sorry, but I can't remember if we've met before.

[nyxly]

[ He answers only after brief delay, one in which he looks over the young man before him. Identical to Verstael in face, yet completely different in everything else. He can't make sense of it. ] We haven't.

[ Another pause, this time longer, and then he offers: ] Nyx Ulric.

[this_loser]

[He practically deflates in relief.] Oh, good.

I mean! [He waves a hand apologetically.] Not good that we haven't met! I just thought I forgot, and it has been a while, but...

...

So. How do you know who I am then?

[nyxly]

The Kingsglaive were formed to protect the crown prince, Noctis. You're Crownsguard to him, along with the other two. [ That's how Nyx knows him-- knows of him. He was instated as such before Regis bid Noctis to leave Insomnia. ]

You can relax, I only know your face.

[ Nyx supposes that for all of his status as a "hero" and his pictures in the papers, clearly he's not that memorable to the average Crown citizen. ]

Oh. [He feels a little better, then.

It's been three years and then some since he's seen his home world, and longer still since leaving Insomnia. If he ever saw this man's face in a newspaper, he's obviously forgotten it by now.

He smiles.]

Well, it is the best part of me.

[nyxly]

[ There might have been a quirk of his lips, if Nyx wasn't still feeling so stiff post-death. Friendly, casual. He can see why Noctis took to him...

And yet. Duty. ]

Shouldn't you be with the king?

[this_loser]

Er... Should I?

[He looks confused, head tilt and all.]

I'm not even sure where Regis is at right about now, actually? Could try him at home?

[nyxly]

[ Nyx lifts is chin. Not that king. ] Noctis. 

[ Not that Nyx is with Regis either, but he's still sorting out if he's a Glaive at this point, what with that Regis not being the Regis of his time. Not to mention, he has Cor with him.  ] 

[this_loser]

[Ah. Right. Noct is also a king.]

I'm not with him 24/7. Not only is he super capable, but... he's probably with Pyra?

[nyxly]

[ Nyx breathes out, processing this.

It's like there's no war that exists here-- no one who's after the young king's life anyway. Prompto doesn't have to be by Noctis. (And who the hell is Pyra, anyway.)

Nyx looks at Prompto as if he expects him to elaborate further. ]

[this_loser]

[No further explanation comes. And the silence that follows gets more than a little uncomfortable. Prompto shifts awkwardly and coughs into his fist.]

So... Have you had anything to eat yet? The food here is killer!
