Take these stars from my crown

Cor made a point of getting to the tower early so he could make some preparations, setting the table for the full family. Even Will is coming and that is so strange. Cor has never once in his life had a +1 for any kind of event. Yet here he is setting a table for nine instead of eight.

The prep work had taken weeks of going over the correct textures and tastes with the research team, something Ignis had taken on the bulk of the work for while the others worked on the wall. Still he was confident that they were close enough to get a solid match on many foods, leaving some of their bet recipes only very slightly off from the originals. Cor had taken over rolling a large selection of sushi as well as a light starter soup. Some of the more robust recipes had been Ignis' purview but, if nothing else, Cor is an efficient prep cook.

All in all there's a pretty spectacular spread when everyone arrives, something for everyone and a familiar Altissian berry cake for dessert.

[It's amazing what good influences a lady can have over her man. Aulea would have a heart attack if she saw was Regis was wearing. It is, perhaps, the only good thing about her not being here.

Of the whole ensemble that Noctis is wearing, it is the chain around his neck that catches Regis' attention the most. His heart actually skips a beat because he has a feeling he knows exactly what is on the end of that chain, something that perfectly matches what he wears on his right hand. After all, Noctis would have it at his point in time.

This is not the time or the place for pondering such grim details, though. Fortunately, there is an easy distraction from that in the form of some delicious smelling meat.]

Don't you look proud of yourself. Did young Ignis finally teach you how to properly cook a steak?

[Noctis grins immediately in Regis's direction; this man, in particular, was the top of his list of people he'd wanted to get a chance to try this for sure.]

He did, actually. It's easier than I thought it would be. [And thank the Six for that, because he wants to eat this every day for at least a week or two. He's missed the taste of home dearly.] Wanna taste-test?

[Regis clasps his hands behind his back, giving the meat an appraising look.]

Taste-testing without finding out what it is first? That sounds like something that would give both Weskham and Clarus reason to scold me mightily were they here.

[Good thing they aren't, hu?]

[Good thing indeed.]

Pretty sure even Clarus and "Wesky" couldn't say no to this one.

[His tone is playful, almost daring; it's been a long time since he used that nickname.]

[Regis raises an eyebrow in Noctis' direction though it's unclear if that is due to the claim or the use of Weskham's nickname.]

Is that so? Well, at the only one of us here, I had best give it a taste then, shouldn't I? It would be a shame for us all to miss out.

Yep, that's what I thought.

[Impatient, and trying not to let it show, Noctis just goes ahead and passes him a plate. Go on, try it already!]

[Regis takes the plate with a totally unnecessary flourish. Honestly, he considers acting like it is terrible just to tease Noctis, but it is so good that he can't. The expression is too clear on his face. He takes another bite, obviously trying to identify it, but in the end he comes up with nothing.]

I've tried a lot of things in my day, but this I cannot place. What is it besides excellent?

[Still grinning, he lifts a hand to shield half his face as he emphatically mouths, "turtle". Hopefully his dad gets the gist- those hunks of meat are too big to come from any ordinary turtle.]

[Regis blinks once at the mouthed word and then again, before looking down at his plate and letting out a delighted laugh.]

You've got to be kidding! However did you get your hands on that?

Not too sure myself. I kept thinking about it, since it's come up a few times, and then I wake up to a message that the replicator's got an upgrade. I thought it had to be fake, but when I tried it, well.

[He gestures; the results are here, sure enough.]

It's about as weird as anything that happens around here.

Strange.

[Regis takes another bite, seeming to recall something as he finishes chewing.]

But, perhaps not. I do recall Cor told me about wanting to get our replicator upgraded so that it would be easier for Ignis to use. Soon enough, it was.

Right, I remember that! Wish he'd mentioned it before that day it heard me talking to Umbra in the kitchen.

[That mess had been a pain in the ass to take care of.]

[Regis raises an eyebrow at that. Come on now, Noct. You can't just say something like that and not give the full story.]

[Feck.]

Don't give me that look, I cleaned it up. Not my fault it heard me mention hot chocolate without a cup in place.

Oh... Oh dear.

[Despite being a machine, Regis could swear that replicator has a personality somehow. Not only can he imagine just how big a mess it was, he is also glad it wasn't him.]

Perhaps we should put a warning sign on it.

Probably, yeah. I definitely didn't expect it.

[He shifts a bit in his seat, grabbing his plate and poking at his own steak.]

I was thinking maybe I should get the same upgrade. In case he comes by.

That wouldn't be a bad idea.

[Noctis seems quite embarrassed by the incident, so Regis says no more about it directly.]

It may be wise to ask if you can have one not quite so eager to please, though.

[Learn from their mistake, son.]

[What a good dad. Though he's used to getting away with a lot, so it isn't any great surprise.]

Not sure I'll have much choice, but so long as it helps Iggy and still gives me steaks, whatever's fine.

If you end up with one that espouses the benefits of being vegetarian for five minutes before it gives you anything, don't say I didn't warn you.

I'd throw it out. Right in the trash. None of that in my house.

[Though technically it was Prompto's house, first.]

Oh really now.

[Regis can't help but smirk just a little.]

But what if Ignis likes it? Perhaps they will have conversations about how to best sneak vegetables into your food.

I'm positive he already does that.

[It used to be something of a game- if he'd be able to tell what part of the meals were vegetables, if he could notice taste or texture. Ignis usually won the rounds with stew or stir fry.]

Anyway it's not like he has to live with it.

[Good man. Err... Look, Regis had to learn to live with the veggies so...]

True, and you would visit more often for his cooking with a replicator like that, I bet.

[Is he plotting? He miiiiight be plotting.]
