don't stop coming and they don't stop coming [closed]

A few days ago, Kaito had been alerted to the presence of a very large hill that had suddenly sprung up fully formed north of the city proper--wow, weird huh? Had he seen it? Might be some neat stuff up there! At the very least there appeared to be trees. Probably an interesting spot to go check out!

He was forbidden from checking it out. Do not approach that hill, young man.

Until today, when the hill ban was lifted and he was cheerfully bullied into loading up the bike with Shinji and Kyoko and some provisions he had been forbidden from helping to prepare, and directed to drive out into the countryside. Once they actually got to the hill, it might be hard to keep driving--were there any roads up there at all?--but it surely wouldn't be too much of a hardship to go on a little hike on this warm summer's day.

"No thank you," Kyoko deadpanned gently. Yes, this was clearly a joke, but no getting any actual ideas please. "It's way too early to be thinking about that anyway. And today is Kaito's fated day of destruction, it's not right to be planning for other days."

Yeah just plug the kotatsu in, it'd be fine.

"Hohhh. Sure didn't stop you last month," Kai pointed out. He certainly hadn't been the one to start making meal plans during Shinji's day of destruction. "You started it, even. Only makes sense if we make plans for you."

"No, no, I think she's right," as much as he'd like to keep playing along, they're having a nice enough time that he doesn't want to risk taking the teasing too far against Kyoko at the moment. Besides! This is Kai's day of destruction! She's 100% right about that. "There's still some time to be going after you, Kai, we can plan future birthdays tomorrow."

Is that a promise? We will see.

Thank you, Shinji. Kyoko nodded along vigorously. "Your birthdays are close together, so it was only natural that the conversation flowed in that direction!" A beat. "But you really don't need to start planning tomorrow, either."

Oh? What's this? A betrayel??

"Ah... Even with tomorrow, it seems that I'm getting ganged up on again. I see."

"Exactly." Let's leave that threat/promise in the air for now, they can decide if they truly want to launch their attack right away tomorrow. "You'll have to keep appreciating our spoiling for a little while longer."

There was no betrayal here, only Shinji choosing the proper allegiance. He made the objectively correct choice. Everything was fine and good.

"Mm-hmm," Kyoko hummed out cheerfully, getting a little more aggressive in her lean for a moment. "After all, this is both of our revenge, you know."

"Guess I have no choice," he sighed again. There was a glint of mischief in his eyes though. How terrible that they were both so cozied up against him, unable to see this warning. They were in Danger. "Guess I'm gonna have to get spoiled."

There was a brief moment where his hold on both of them tightened. Just a sweet hug, maybe. Or perhaps--

Kai promptly let himself teeter backwards, pulling both of them down with him.

"That's ri-- Whoa!!"

Alas, the danger goes completely unseen until it is too late, curse this comfy cozy position Kai's coaxed them all in to. Helpless to this sneak attack, Shinji is swiftly and easily pulled down into the bedding with little more than an "Oof-!" for protest when he hits the ground.

Why? Why did you do this?

"Wha--!" Enjoy the yelps in your ear, Kai. Kyoko couldn't help flailing a little as they went down, her arm falling roughly over him as they hit the ground.

"H-hey now," she chided as the dust settled. "If you want to go to bed, just say that!"

Down they all went! (Again.) Even on Kai's end, it was an ungraceful affair as he landed with an "Oof!" of his own. There they were, a mess of limbs again. At least it was more coherent this time and he could squeeze them again as he laughed.

"Just indulging in the spoils."

Using their words against them? How could you.

"Okay, but if we're going to do this now, let me at least get up to close the door." You goofball.

Kyoko was tucking that laugh away in her heart to treasure even as she pouted at him. "And you have to let me give you my present now, too."

"Heh." Shinji got a little pat. You could get up whenever you wanted, its fine. Closing the door wasn't as easy as Kai just turning off the lights, so that was probably the responsible plan here.

He was getting distracted anyway. "... No, I've already gotten lots of presents?" What did she mean her present, she'd already given him a present.

As long as he's not being held down by any more hugs, then Shinji will carefully disentangle himself from this heap of affection so he can zip them up, safely shielded from the elements now that they're apparently finished with the sunset.

But that just means! Kyoko's present is the star of the evening now!

"Just a little more, Kai, it'll be worth it."

Incorrect. The tent was from Shinji! It was all him! She had not in fact given Kaito her gift yet!

"It's just that it'll probably come in handy right about now," she said, a bit bashful, pulling that unassuming bundle that had been sitting in the corner over onto her lap before she pushed it into his hands. Here, check it out, there actually isn't a blanket shortage at all tonight.

These two! Hey!

Kai pushed himself back up while they went their own ways, giving Shinji a playfully dubious look. He wasn't going to survive a little more, bro! Especially not when the little bit more was being handed to him with that little bit of bashfulness. Oh no. What was this. "It'll come in handy?" He wondered, even as he unfolded it.

Oh. It sure would. What a happy orange. "What the hell," he blurted, but it was probably obvious that it wasn't in any bad way. "It's so cute?"

Ahh, and what a lovely blanket it is. Kyoko's awfully good at making things to fit Kai's interests, isn't she? How nice, what a fantastic skill to have. Shinji will just sit back, watching the scene unfold with a small, fond smile, letting the two of them can enjoy this exchange together.

Oh, thank goodness, he didn't think it was too silly or weird--always a worry for Kyoko, knowing her own taste. "I wanted to make sure the sewing machine you gave me would get some good use," she said with a sheepish little giggle. "I think I really know how to use it now!"

She was super good at making things that fit both their interests, really. How'd she manage to keep doing that! What a dangerous super to have.

"Sure seems like it," he laughed, but he was thoughtfully tracing his fingertips over the patchwork stitches. How long had she been piecing this together? "... It's really nice. You did a really good job."

It's a skill Shinji simply doesn't have! How wonderful it must be to be able to just do something like this, and look at how happy Kai is with it. Incredible.

"You did," he echoes. A very good job! You should be proud, Kyoko.

Kyoko had to dip her head at this point, cheeks pink; they were getting into Too Much Praise territory here. "I'm glad it came out all right," she mumbled, "so you can use it tonight. It should be big enough, right?"

It was all deserved praise though, to be sure. (Don't go selling yourself short over there tho, bro. You are one half of this happiness equation!)

Kai held the blanket up a bit, seeing how wide it stretched. "Mm, yeah. Should be big enough for all of us." With some squishing.

(Please! He's just not that crafty!! That's all he's getting at!)

"Might be a bit of a squeeze," Shinji comments, knowing that it isn't the sort of thing that's going to deter Kai in the least. Squeezes are very likely to happen, blanket or otherwise. "Just make sure you get the most use of it, okay?"

"Well, it's not like we have much of a choice about that in here anyway, right?" Kyoko's grin was still bashful, though for a bit of a different reason now. It was simply a Tent Fact, coze was going to be unavoidable. "But I'll happily take the fringes, so you should use as much as you want."
