A few days ago, Kaito had been alerted to the presence of a very large hill that had suddenly sprung up fully formed north of the city proper--wow, weird huh? Had he seen it? Might be some neat stuff up there! At the very least there appeared to be trees. Probably an interesting spot to go check out!

He was forbidden from checking it out. Do not approach that hill, young man.

Until today, when the hill ban was lifted and he was cheerfully bullied into loading up the bike with Shinji and Kyoko and some provisions he had been forbidden from helping to prepare, and directed to drive out into the countryside. Once they actually got to the hill, it might be hard to keep driving--were there any roads up there at all?--but it surely wouldn't be too much of a hardship to go on a little hike on this warm summer's day.

It's a skill Shinji simply doesn't have! How wonderful it must be to be able to just do something like this, and look at how happy Kai is with it. Incredible.

"You did," he echoes. A very good job! You should be proud, Kyoko.

Kyoko had to dip her head at this point, cheeks pink; they were getting into Too Much Praise territory here. "I'm glad it came out all right," she mumbled, "so you can use it tonight. It should be big enough, right?"

It was all deserved praise though, to be sure. (Don't go selling yourself short over there tho, bro. You are one half of this happiness equation!)

Kai held the blanket up a bit, seeing how wide it stretched. "Mm, yeah. Should be big enough for all of us." With some squishing.

(Please! He's just not that crafty!! That's all he's getting at!)

"Might be a bit of a squeeze," Shinji comments, knowing that it isn't the sort of thing that's going to deter Kai in the least. Squeezes are very likely to happen, blanket or otherwise. "Just make sure you get the most use of it, okay?"

"Well, it's not like we have much of a choice about that in here anyway, right?" Kyoko's grin was still bashful, though for a bit of a different reason now. It was simply a Tent Fact, coze was going to be unavoidable. "But I'll happily take the fringes, so you should use as much as you want."

Squishes and squeezes were indeed just Tent Facts. It was very good that everyone understood the facts.

"Sure, sure. Plop it on me and I'll keep you both cozy."

"You'd keep the tent plenty warm even without it," Shinji teases - having such a powerful furnace in an enclosed space is bound to keep them nice and toasty even if the rain keeps going all night. "Just the edges for us should be more than enough."

Something about Shinji teasing Kaito about something as intimate as body warmth right in front of her kicked an extra little flush up in Kyoko's cheeks--ah, hopefully it was dark enough that nobody would see that. And then, what should she say after a remark like that? Shinji was correct, but would agreeing make things weird in this case? Better be careful not to overstep, especially when he was already so kindly sharing everything with her tonight.

"Well then!" she chirped instead, scooting back to fluff the pillows waiting for them. "Are you gonna ask us to tuck you in, too?"

The tease had gotten another chuckle out of Kai. Yeah, there was probably zero danger of anyone feeling chilly that night. Surely none of this was cause for a bout of overthinking though. Surely not?

Time to scoot towards those fluffed pillows. "What. Did either of you want to tuck me in?" That felt like a more important question.

Please do not overthink, Kyoko, it's a simple fact that Kai runs warm, and that's simply something they should both be aware of at this point. But, also, nobody has to bring it up again, either.

And on top of that, it's apparently time for silliness. "If you're going to ask us nicely." Unless he wants them to force it on him? Is that what you're after, Kai?

"You were the one saying to plop it on you. That's basically what that means, right?" Yes, good, silliness. Very easy and comfortable. "I guess that means we have our answer then."

Plopping it on him was just plopping it on him though. A silly thing for these silly times. But wait, hold on, he lost the thread. Which question were they answering???

"The answer's... yes?"

"If you say so."

You've chosen your fate, Kaito. He'll leave the blanket business to Kyoko, in that case, and move over toward Kai in order to put his hands on the his shoulders. "Come on, then." Down with you, into those comfy pillows.

Whatever question Kaito thought he was responding to, that was the correct answer. Thank you Shinji for assisting in this effort; Kyoko was going to swoop in after him and throw the blanket over both boys. There.

Kai blinked at those hands on his shoulders, something flipping in his tummy. Oh? "Uhp--"

Down he went. Again! Again, with a surprised laugh following suit as the blanket draped over both of them. He grinned up at Shinji, reaching up to sling an arm around him.

"That's sure one way to do it."

What? No!! When that blanket hits him, he turns to give a look of betrayal to the one who put it there. No... they're picking on the birthday boy, don't rope him in to this!

But then that arm around him solidly steals his attention because, hey! This whole thing has suddenly become a little too intimate! For the current company!! Please, let him wriggle free of this hold.

"We can get you cozier than this." Tucking him in means a more thorough bundling up, right? That'll be much easier with just one body under the blanket.

That look from Shinji was met with twinkling eyes, before Kyoko had to turn to the side and snort as Kaito octopus-armed him down. Jeez. Cute.

She wasn't going to wait for Shinji to finish his escape attempt though. Kyoko was already scooting up to straighten that blanket out and neatly fold the edge below Kaito's chin, whether Shinji was still under it or not.

Wow, so neat. So dainty. Kai puffed his cheeks out and snuck his other hand out to trap Kyoko too. The octopus would not be satisfied until all were in its clutches.

No... now they are all trapped........

"I guess that's good enough," it sure is one way to get cozy, even if he's not letting them properly execute tuck-in protocols. This... works. This is fine. He's going to kill them, but it's his birthday, and if that's what he wants, Shinji will take it with little more than a defeated sigh.

Oh, it was her turn to get pulled down now. Well, that was fine--he was only taking her to her next destination anyway. There was still a little flush of warmth to her cheeks as she slipped under the blanket next to him, but no resistance.

There was a little giggle at Shinji's surrender. "Sorry--next time I'll let you do it properly."

The birthday boy was pleased as punch with this whole scenario, unable and unwilling to stop his doofy grin. His heart knew this wasn't quite perfect, but it was still very, very good. They wanted to spoil him, so he could probably be selfish this once.

"I am the most tucked in I've ever been," he assured them both, sounding happy about it.

He should be selfish more often, honestly, but as long as he's letting them do this for him on his birthday, that's a good start. "Good," Shinji replies, finally letting himself settle in next to Kai now that it's clear that this isn't completely scandalous or anything.

It's still! A little embarrassing! But it's okay!

"Gotta make sure your birthday is good and cozy, from start to finish."

Kyoko's heart might have been thumping a little quicker in her chest as she settled in, unable to escape the fluster or banish the feeling that she was intruding. But Kaito was happy, and Shinji seemed calm and in good spirits, so... this was fine, wasn't it? It was okay to do this. She shouldn't let the embarrassment overcome her.

"Mm," she agreed, tucking her cheek against Kaito's shoulder, the better to make sure nobody could get a clear look at her face. "We shouldn't end the day slacking off on the spoiling."

"As if you could," Kai said with a warm hum. They'd never let it be an option. Even now they were working so hard, even if it was just to not explode. They were both doing so good, even if Kai was apparently set on making their lives as hard as possible. It wasn't with any malicious intent! He was only ever fueled by his adoration.

Forgive him for his actions as he gingerly rolled his head from side to side, bestowing soft smooches to each of them. They were important. "Thank you."

For everything.

This is hardly any more intrusive than other times that they've asked Kyoko to snooze with them. Tents are made for sharing! Even if they are close and cozy, but it's not like anyone expected anyone else to make themselves scarce right now.

The kisses... are pushing it a bit. Not enough to get Shinji to tell him 'no', not on his birthday of all days, but enough to get him to sink bashfully into the bedding - hopefully low enough that Kyoko couldn't see him very well past Kai. Do not... perceive him.

"Mmm," he gives a soft murmur in response, "Happy birthday."
