[ Have a woman with short, red hair wave and then approach you, whether or not she knows you. Her presence is warm, and her smile is even warmer. She offers a hand. Easy enough, right? This is the simplest method to generate some of this contact-energy and get money out of it, too. ]

[Nita's not entirely sure how to answer the question.]

Oh, I don't mind contact!

I've had more than my fair share of awkward, it feels like-

But it doesn't hurt me or anything, to touch people like this.

[It's weird, but not abhorrent.]

But you wish... to do more than just bring contact to the gods.

[ If it seems that she doesn't mind awakening them sooner than what might be natural. It seems she's pretty proactive. ]

[And here Nita gives voice to something the peridexis has been musing on since they've gotten here:]

Well, yeah; however the gods and their people got into this mess, they're going to have to change how they've been doing things if they want to avoid getting into it again.

How are they tied into the world? Did they come first, or the natives, or have they always been tied together? How did everything break down so far, and why did it take so long for the natives to catch on that they were on the wrong track for fixing things?

[Seems Nita can ask many questions too, though she's not expecting Pyra to have the answers.

Shaking her head, and squeezing Pyra's hand a little, she sighs.]

If they're going to do right by each other, let alone us, we all need to understand each other's needs better.

[ For Pyra, they've all been told the gods need touch. They are giving touch right now... But she does agree, a little more investigation won't hurt.

She continues walking with her, hand-in-hand. ] There are a few of us interested in pursuing the mysteries of this world. You will not be alone.

[ Pyra is among them. ]

...Nita... [ More softly this time, she continues to speak. ] Do you wish to do all you can to help this world?

That's good to hear, for sure.

[Can't keep the spirit of curiosity down! Or suspicion, as the case may be.

Matching Pyra's change in volume, Nita replies:]

Yeah. I want to know all that can be done to help, not just what they know will work.

[The blind spots, as it were. Things in the fabric of this world that needed attention, needed care...

Needed, perhaps, to be changed more than just fixed.]

[ Her smile remains. ]

....That... is a welcome answer, Nita.

I am glad that you are here to help with your power.

[ Another pause follows, and then: ] Might I... ask you a few more questions?

[Nita hopes that smile's genuine, or she'll just feel like she's walking into trouble somehow...]

I'm glad you're here, too. I get the feeling this place needs all sorts, no matter our skills.

[And she smiles in turn.]

Sure; whaddya want to know?

With your power... are you able to transform wood into, say, metal?

[ She had mentioned it takes energy. How much energy? ]

With the Speech? Not easily; if the tree it's from doesn't have any memories of being metallic or mineral-based to work with, the persuasion would be like talking at nothing.

Rock might be more effective, honestly - and if it's from here, I can't even say that for sure.

[She sighs.]

Whatever magic is rooted in this world, nothing in it responds to the Speech.

But outside of that, just in general? I'd probably be wiped for a week, depending on if you want a piece of metal for siding.

Less if you're trying for, say, the size of a bolt, or a microchip.

... If someone here can make wood, though, we might get somewhere.

And if you started with something more minute? [ A pause, and then she clarifies: ]

You mentioned before that wizards can.... break bonds between atoms and recreate molecules.

Comparatively less energy, but... I could do it.

[Nita nods.] As part of the persuasion routine behind a spell, yeah. Breaking down toxins, changing phases of matter, that sort of thing.

[There's a pause, and then she adds.] Nuclear reactions... Though I haven't used that spell in a long time.

[Carefully not mentioning that she's the one that made that particular spell, there!]

[ Her next question comes quickly. ]

If you were to find a type of matter in this world that... consented to you changing it...

You could create just about anything you wished, correct?

[Something in Nita's eyes goes distant - guess who's excited at that possibility?

Hint: it's not quite Nita.]

... Yeah. It'd have to be used to being versatile, though, I'd think.

[ While she notices the change in expression in Nita, Pyra doesn't appear to understand what is signifies. It could mean anything, after all: she could be thinking of some sort of memory, some sort of caution.

Thus, Pyra can only ask. ] Is something wrong?

Sorry; you just piqued someone's interest, is all.

[The peridexis is restless, okay?]

Were you making that suggestion as a hypothetical, or...?

Er, only asking if you can or cannot. [ Alas, that earns another tilt of her head, before she might answer Nita's follow-up question. ] Whose... interest?

[Nita's free hand goes to her head now, expression sheepish. On the one hand, she was probably saying too much. On the other... what were secrets, precisely, here? Even out of context?]

The peridexic effect- er, wizardry, I mean. It talks, but mostly just to me.

It's just- it's a reassurance that wizardry's still real, even when I don't have much else of home.

[Even when there are so many ways in which it - they - aren't effective, here.]

It followed me to Nautilus, too, but not right away.

[ If she's understanding this right.... Nita can use this Speech, which shows she is a wizard. And Wizardry also speaks to her. ]

Er...Is this peridexic effect...a wizardy incarnation?

[Pyra has it more-or-less in one. And that second part isn't even normal for wizards.]

... Sort of? It's described itself before as the soul of every spell - and to some extent, the Manual each wizard receives.

[GUESS WHO'S PLEASED - ~~and, oddly enough, nervous~~ - AT THIS TURN OF CONVERSATION?]

[ Pyra is fairly still lost, still attempting to sort this all out. ]

And it is here, right now, with you?

[Nita nods.]

Not that it can interact much with the world right now, but yeah.

And we can't call home, either.

[ ....Which brings her back to initial set of inquiries. ]

It-- You... need consent to interact with the world's matter. [ Antimatter too, she supposes. ]

If... it's too much to ask, would you be able to demonstrate some of your power to me? [ And at this, Pyra reaches up with her free hand and takes a bit of her hair, plucking out one strand. ] Could you turn the atoms of this into... say, iron?

[Nita nods, opens her mouth to respond to Pyra's request-

And is forced to close her mouth again when the peridexis starts spilling out an apologetic explanation. While having Bobo eat its own words so-to-speak is amusing, it's also going to make things difficult.]

... Okay, we'd need a lot of space for the spell diagram for that transformation. It can be done, I'll tell you that, but we'd have to write all the molecular transitions out to go with it.

These are far from the most complicated matter-names I've used in a spell, though. Your hair is made of keratin, right?

For the meantime, though, I can talk the matter into being a lot stronger. Like- can't be pulled apart by conventional forces, stronger.

[ She watches her as Nita appears to begin to say something, stop, and then begin again.

By the time Pyra's removed it from her person, the strand is keratin. Thus Pyra nods with a smile, handing over the single strand of red hair. ] This one is yours, Nita. [ She says this softly. ] To do with it as you will. I would love to see your power at work.

[ All of that planning for just a small strand? She wonders if it is efficient. ]

[Nita nods, takes the hair into her free hand with utmost care... then starts speaking.

She speaks quietly, since it's only this strand of atoms she's augmenting, but the meaning of the Speech echoes beyond the greeting from earlier.

This won't need a full spell diagram; it is persuasion, but to a very specific purpose. /We're going to be the most perfectly straight we can be, alright? The most graceful line there ever was./

There are, of course, more words spoken than that.

The red strand shimmers blue as Nita speaks, resuming its normal color once Nita is done.

Nita has to catch her breath, afterwards, but once she does:]

You could probably pick locks with this now. Or use it as a ruler.

... Or use it as a tiny dagger; watch for the endpoints.
