The situation's different here, at least on the surface level. With the Atroma they were always blatant about their bullshit- we were prisoners, the capture was on purpose, their intent was malicious. Here, we don't know the truth for sure, but at least they're putting the effort into a cover story. Blaming the gods and asking us to save the world is a lot safer when we have to live side by side.
