"Huh?" But Kaito was already his, there could be no stealing away from the likes of her.

"No way... if you're having trouble, it's definitely important! And besides, we're not really all that busy! We're pretty much done already." It was fine to drop cryptic lines like that, at this point, Kyoko supposed. "Working in a full day of skinship for you shouldn't be hard, don't worry about it."

Be as cryptic as you want - at this point, with the particular bit of nonsense on Shinji's plate, he hasn't actually thought too hard about what day it is and what Kaito and Kyoko might be up to because of it. As far as he's assumed, the two of them are doing something related to Kai's delivery service. Nothing strange or suspicious at all.

"It really is just more weird than anything," is his soft protest. It's not a dire situation that calls for immediate action! But it would also be kind of silly to push back on it too hard if it isn't actually going to cause an issue for either of them. "Just as long as I'm not interrupting something important... do you need a hand getting anything finished up?"

Let him help if he can! In exchange for leeching up Kai's time!

Kyoko opened her mouth to protest, but then paused, mouth hanging open as she thought. Actually, there was something very important that Shinji needed to do for them, for this all to go off without a hitch. Something she and Kaito couldn't--or really, shouldn't--do for him.

"Put on your shoes, please," she said after a moment. "It would be a real big help. I'll go check with Kaito about the rest."

Oh? An outside task, perhaps? That's easy enough!

"Of course." Just so long as those shoes fit... decently enough. Just get him through today, at least, shoes! That's all he'll ask of you! "I'll meet you two outside, then?"

Hang in there, shoes, you can come off when they reach their destination anyway. No intense tasks like walking are required of you today.

"Or we'll come fetch you when it's time!" Kyoko grinned brightly. See this big reassuring thumbs up, everything is gonna be fine Shinji. "Don't worry!"

And she was just gonna hurriedly edge away backwards, grinning all the while, hop into her own shoes, and boom, out the door.

"Kaito!! The target is making final preparations, are we ready?"

Absolutely nothing suspicious about that. Not that it super mattered at this point. The surprises were going to be hoisted upon him soon enough.

Kai didn't immediately look up as Kyoko descended upon him, mouthing things to himself as he pointed at things in the storage box of the bike. There were blankets, many bentos, some thermoses, presents, extra things, Kyoko-- oh. He blinked, looking at her proper with a small grin. "Think so. Here, you take a look too."

Here she was already, peeking into the storage box and the sidecar. "The cake is in here, right? The sparklers??" It did look like they in fact had everything? A success?? Perhaps???

Looking back at Kaito, she nodded. "Then--we can proceed to the kidnapping phase of the mission."

He nodded, pointing them out as she listed them so they could both be sure. The cake was there! And their bounty of sparklers. They were ready to party.

"Affirmative." He shut the lid, giving it a little pat. "You said he was... doing final preparations?"

"I told him to put on his shoes." Kyoko cupped a hand beside her mouth, as if this next part was somehow extra secret. "He thinks he's gonna help us with something. Should we swoop in and abduct him right now?"

Oh, Shinji. What a good lad you were. Kai huffed in fond amusement, turning a grin towards her. "Sounds good to me. Let's go get our boy so he can help us spoil him."

Onwards! To the boy!

Kyoko nodded gravely, lifted a finger to her lips, and then crept up to the door. Kai, did you come with her? You did, right? Because she was yanking the door open right now!

Was there a boy here? Hello boy! Did you have your shoes (mostly) on? Good job!

Here's Kai, suddenly looping an arm around an arm.

Here he is! Waiting patiently by the door, near enough to jump slightly in surprise when the door suddenly swung open! And make a short noise of shock when his arm is looped in Kai's!

Kyoko had said they'd come get him, but he wasn't expecting such an abrupt abduction! But if he's going to be led somewhere, he's going to follow without any protest. "We're off, then?"

Almost as soon as Kaito had secured one of Shinji's arms, Kyoko was wrapping both of hers around his other. One birthday boy, successfully taken captive! From there, it was just a matter of bustling him over to the bike, where Kyoko would release him to grab a helmet and plop it on his head.

"You'll ride with Kaito, right?" She was already hopping into the sidecar, pulling on her own helmet.

"We're off!"

Golly it was almost like they had rehearsed the whole thing. While Kyoko was plopping helmets on the birthday boy, Kai had slipped away to get his own ready to go. It didn't take long for him to swing on to the bike, turning to pat that familiar spot behind him.

"Seems like it'll be a real nice day for a ride," he said with a grin, "so I'm glad you can come help."

The entourage treatment is, perhaps, a bit suspicious, but being so briskly whisked away is enough to keep his thoughts from catching up to him for now.

For now.

For now, he mutters a soft, "Thank you," and takes a moment to adjust the helmet that's been plopped on his head, making sure it sits nice and comfortably. With that securely in place, he takes the spot behind Kai, any wandering thoughts about how, hmm, it doesn't seem like there's a lot here to really make this a three-person-job, somewhat abated by the assurances that yes! Shinji is coming along to Help! That's definitely what's happening. And, gosh, isn't this new vantage point on the bike something? Plenty to stay distracted by.

He easily slips his arms around Kai's middle to signal himself being Ready to Go (perhaps? this is what Kyoko had actually meant? by easily working in a full day of cozy contact?) and gives a pleased hum in response. "It's really nice out, today." A lovely day for a ride, for certain! "Where are we heading to?"

Looking up at her friends--gosh, the vantage point from down there in the sidecar just made Shinji look even taller--Kyoko innocently echoed that question to Kaito. "Where are we going, exactly? I've never been there before."

Huh. There sure was a bit more boy there against his back now. Kai hadn't expected to notice much of a difference, but that extra warmth made for extra cozy. With Shinji Ready to Go, Kai looked over to make sure Kyoko had all her arms and legs within the vehicle before the ride started.

"A bit of a ways out. It's a particular order, see." He gave her a thumbs up-- was it to tell her not to worry? Let her know he was ready? Probably both-- and gently patted Shinji's hands. "Here we go."

It was a quiet start as always, but the bike hummed to life beneath them at Kai's prodding. Off they went, starting at a leisurely pace as they wound their way through the residential streets.

Somewhere mysterious and a ways out, huh? That doesn't exactly answer his question, but if that's all Kai's willing to give right now, then Shinji's not going to press him for more. Go ahead, then, keep your secrets.

Until they get close enough to their destination to put more pieces together, Shinji will simply enjoy the ride. Arms tightening just a bit as they take off, he leans a bit more heavily against the other boy for stability. This part of any trip is always nice, even if they aren't zipping along at a particularly speedy clip just yet, the opportunity to clear his head as the city glides by them is a treat on its own.

For now, there are no more questions from him. Just a quiet appreciation of the ride for what it is.

That didn't really answer Kyoko's question either, except that they must not be going to a city park. Somewhere outside town, then? Maybe somewhere without a proper name.

She settle in for the ride, though, quietly watching the streets slip away past them. Every so often her gaze found its way back up to the boys. Was Kaito taking them to the same place they spent Shinji's last birthday, she wondered? Somewhere they had been together, but not her.... What kind of funny feeling did that thought stir up in her chest? Kyoko couldn't name it.

Those secrets will be kept. It was clear they were heading out of the city though, leaving behind the bustle and turning on to open roads. This road trip was a little different, the speed of their flight a more gradual thing than the burst Kai would normally grant them. There was a lot of cargo to consider! But they were assuredly still flying, his humming getting lost in the breeze.

Hopefully whatever feelings stirring in Kyoko's heart wouldn't plague her too much. The idea of returning to the same spot had certainly crossed his mind when the weather had started to change for the warmer. The warmer weather had brought more places to explore though, and Kai had spent some of May's explorations scoping out new places to visit. Somewhere quiet for a peaceful birthday, with plenty of greenery to enjoy, but not so far out they caught the attention of uninvited guests. There were more options when this wasn't exclusively a stargazing event this time around. They just needed soft grass, a bit of shade, a big sky and plenty of flowers.

'Plenty of flowers' was the hard part, but the spot Kai eventually slowed the bike down for had its share. It felt like it had a skeleton of a park, but it was more over grown than before. A nice backdrop for a nice time. Kai looked it over again, nodding to himself.

"Yeah. Here we go."

They sure are going far past the city, aren't they? As the silence falls on the party while they journey, Shinji's mind begins to wander a bit. This all still feels like a bit much for all three of them, is there something big happening out here...? Like maybe a tea party off the beaten path, or some special day for someone. He's not trying to draw any huge connections, but as the gears start slowly turning in his head, a realization dawns on him.

He is someone. And today is, perhaps, a significant one. Hadn't he been trying to keep an eye on these two in case they tried to pull anything funny around, say, todayish?

He can't entirely rule out the idea that there's something not-him-centric happening, but now. Now he is suspicious. He's not even sure how he'd bring it up at this point, so best to keep these thoughts to himself, he figures. Let's just get a better look at this spot Kai's stopped at.

"It's so nice out here," he says, marveling at the scenery around them as Kai slows the bike. He's definitely picked a good spot, if that awe is anything to go by.

As they slowed down, Kyoko sat up higher, leaning out just a bit for a better view. "Ohh!!" Leave it to Kaito to find the best places, huh! Shifting back into her seat properly, don't worry nobody's gonna fall out okay, Kyoko flashed a cheery grin up at the bike boys. Had Shinji guessed yet??

Whether he had or not, it was clear that Shinji Time was fast approaching. "Under that tree," she pointed, "that would be a good spot, right?"

Did he know? Could he know? Kai suspected there were probably some cogs turning, but it'd all click in to place soon enough.

"Sure seems like one," Kai agreed as he parked the bike proper, meeting Kyoko's grin with a flash of his own. Then he turned it on Shinji as he slid off the bike. "This is where we'll need your help, we've only got so many hands."

Please put him to work on his own birthday so he does not feel like he's being entirely useless, thank you.

"Of course." As he removes the helmet from his head and climbs off the bike, he's... careful, to not seem like he's really expecting something to be coming his way, but at the same time he also doesn't seem to be too bewildered about what they could be setting up in the middle of the wilds, where there were no other offworlders around. Helmet carefully set aside, here are his ands, empty and ready to receive whatever bounties are passed his way. "Just load me up and point me where I need to go."
