I'd say the latter. Any time it happened before, there was so much else going on that there's no way I could've noticed something as small as my eye colour changing. I was feeling the Astrals- either forming the covenant or channelling their power. Both were so overwhelming I barely noticed anything else around me, and afterwards I was completely tapped. Calling on that kind of power doesn't exactly make room for much else.
