Lady's Night Out! Or in, technically.
♥ Who: Lup, Honerva, Pyra, and Era
♥ Where: A... new business!?
♥ When: Tail end of the winter holidays
♥ What: Lady sleepover party, time for drink and gossip
♥ Rating: probably at least PG
In the heart of the entertainment district, closest to where the majority of residents live, a new building has opened up- in theory, that is. There is a sign across that door that reads "opening soon", and the curtains are drawn across the window to hide its contents, but those passing by might catch a glimpse of things here and there. A stack of cups on a table, a spread of colourful fabric, a cat perched in the window, staring back. Hints of what's to come. Today, beneath the existing sign, hangs an extra: "closed for private party".
Attendees of said party will find the interior still very much a work-in-progress, but it has the signs of obvious progress. The business is set up as a cafe, the walls painted warm shades of browns and pinks, cat toys piled in the corner, synthetic trees and shelving along the walls for climbing and exploring. The central area is peppered with blankets and pillows all gathered in a pile, and beneath them a series of connected sofa cushions forming the "mattress". One table is set up as a work station of sorts, with paints and various construction supplies laid out, though for tonight it's mostly abandoned.
Another table is decorated with snacks and dishes, mostly finger food and sweets for easy eating; it all smells delightful, with varying recipes to indicate that the chef has been experimenting on which to choose. Many of them are decorated with animal motifs: cut-out cookies in mammal shapes, tarts with icing whiskers, cat-eared quiche. The coffee drinks too will have simple shapes drawn into the foam when ordered. The alcoholic drinks will probably not, but they're smooth and cold and are made for fun more than aesthetic, anyway. A variation of old-school or modern pop style music plays quietly from wall-mounted speakers, loud enough to be heard but not overwhelm. Two cats wander about the premises, introduced to the party-goers for those not in the know as Ditto and Kova. They're friendly, but be gentle!
Before things get going, Lup lays down a few ground rules:
1) respect the animals, and do not feed them!
2) respect the other people here and definitely feed them
3) if you make a mess tell her, that's what magic is for
4) have a good time, yes this is a rule
5) profit? maybe? you get paid for cuddles here, get drunk and go nuts
Let's go, girls! Time for some R&R fun.

What item would you wish to put on the menu to have others try, Lup?

[ Granted, it was particularly lost on her for so long due to being unable to appreciate food... and is she allergic to anything? She actually doesn't know. She idly gives Lup's hair another fluff. ]

[ Era shifts, moving closer to Esteem and resting herself more securely against their shoulder. Esteem responds by removing their scarf and wrapping it around her, draping a blanket around her shoulders, then idly rubbing their horns against hers in an absentminded gesture of affection. ]
A community vegetable garden would be nice.

[She gives the floor a thoughtful tap. Hmm...]
We're planning some seasonal foods, and transmutation can keep the food fresh, but it'd be nice to make some food without having to throw so many spells at it. So yeah, garden would be rad. I don't like farming much, though.

... Hypothetically, anyway. It may take some time before the native citizens even consider such a thing possible at all, with how protective they are over their current gardens. And if it would be sustainable, with the energy crisis.

[ By their world's definition, yes — but Era is far from an expert in the scientific study of plants. She pulls her borrowed blanket more firmly under her chin, glancing away. ]
A student of botany, just as I'm a student in medicine. [ Does she still count as a student if she no longer has her teachers for guidance? ] But I would gladly bear you feasts of the earth if supplied with seed and soil.
In theory, we needn't even use proper soil, but merely something with which the plants could root themselves to. If they've the foundation, we can supply them with the nutrients via other means, such as with watering.
The three primary nutrients plants require are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Another three add up to the major six: calcium, magnesium, and sulfur. Iron, manganese, boron, copper, zinc, and molybdenum are less critical but important all the same. The main difficulty would be in finding the most balance of nutrients each species of plant would require, provided we can even desynthesize materials into those base elements in a way that's sustainable — though with smaller crops it wouldn't be incredibly demanding.
So we would need seeds, a form of substrate in which to plant them, nutrients to feed them, established nutritional needs for each plant species, adequate light, air, and protection from bursts of inclement weather...
[ She realizes she's rambling on, formulating plans that she shouldn't be focused on right now with so many other more pressing matters at hand. Embarrassed, Era maintains her gaze on a random point in space that isn't occupied by any of her current companions, and pulls herself away from the passion she holds for growing food (from which the majority of her passion stems). ]
...But a medical facility is of far more import right now, as we've enough sustenance that we aren't at risk of starvation.

Perhaps Honerva and you, Era, cannot focus on the garden together as a... side project? It's possible the locals may allow you to cultivate your own patch at the botanical gardens. [ No sense in not trying to ask. ] Not only crops, but flowers too, if you would like.
[ Pyra adores all flora... But she would love to see some algae! ]

[Lup whistles in Era's direction, smiling playfully at her own silly joke. How very nostalgic.]
I think it's bad for our mental health to delegate all the green into a single spot in the whole town. Everything else is so dead and empty... if they really want us happy and gettin' cozy, we should spread things out and have patches of growth across other areas, too. The place is full of abandoned buildings, and if nobody's using 'em, why can't we bulldoze and make space for something pretty? If things grow, that's a good indication that the world's doing better. Sure not getting any other hints of that.

[ But she listens, for compounds at least is something she understands, if they had access to any such things; to make it work, devise a system, it was science in a way, even if what she lacked was experience in nurturing. An odd passing fancy, but... strange, overall. ]
Whether or not they can survive could serve as an indication of progress. They might be affected by the energy here as well. Perhaps that aspect is worth looking into...
no subject
[ Esteem nods their agreement. ] «Better to have safeguards in place that we end up not needing, than to experience mass starvation.»
But starvation kills more slowly than acute injuries and infection. [ Era looks to Honerva. ] Do you know much about compounding medicines, Honerva?
no subject
... My foundations are in alchemy, so that knowledge does extend toward potions and medicines as well. I admit it has not been... foremost on my mind since our arrival here. After having been stationed in the ship's laboratory during our prior journey, it had not been my focus here.
[ Especially once they started actively trying to pry her out of the lab, to talk, to eat. To live. ]
no subject
So long as you promise not to hide away in there or blow everything up, we could probably look to getting an extra room added on at the house. Every good nerd needs a lab.
no subject
She has nothing to contribute, but she does nod along, listening and interested. ]

I've some recipes for basic medicines. If I can eventually procure the ingredients, would you be able to help make them?
As things are now, should a foreign illness make its way through the barrier many of us will suffer greatly, and possibly die.
«Don't bother mentioning the one from a couple months back, because that was suspicious as fuck and still pisses us off.»
[ Era doesn't even know how to react to that one, and so in the end just looks like she deeply regrets her decision to have kept Esteem summoned for company. ]
no subject
The toxins and that harrowing illness from exploring beyond the barrier was a different matter. Perhaps one not to be visited with the presence of Esteem. ]
... Very well. If you provide the recipes, I will assist in what means I can. Although if they were intended to fight illnesses of other worlds, we cannot be certain how effective they may be on their own.
[ But better to have something than nothing. Adaptation was always possible. ]
