...I cannot say I truly understand it, but... It would not surprise me if Somnus was doing much as I have done my whole life — he is not a man, but his duty. It creates a distance, and makes impossibly difficult tasks much less daunting. Tasks such as condemning a beloved brother to an unspeakably horrible fate.

If he ceases to wear his duty as a shield, what would become of the man beneath when faced with the weight of what he has done?

[ She exhales. Shakes her head. ]

...But I have not walked in his shoes, nor did I live in yours during a time before the Scourge.

What I can say with certainty is that there is nothing wrong with missing a loved one. With loving a loved one, even after what awful things they may have done.

It is a poor comparison, but you know some of what Hades has done. Some of what he has done to me. And yet still I... love him.
