...I cannot say I truly understand it, but... It would not surprise me if Somnus was doing much as I have done my whole life — he is not a man, but his duty. It creates a distance, and makes impossibly difficult tasks much less daunting. Tasks such as condemning a beloved brother to an unspeakably horrible fate.
If he ceases to wear his duty as a shield, what would become of the man beneath when faced with the weight of what he has done?
