Perhaps, someday, Kaito will be able to achieve his own dreams of kicking nightmares. Anything's possible in this bizarre world, probably, and if that happens we can all witness Kai attempt to fight an angel, or perhaps the physical manifestation of abandonment, or whatever happens to plaguing dreams that day. It will be truly incredible.
Staying cozied up to a human furnace doesn't phase him much at first. Growing up through a constant summer gives one a pretty high tolerance for that kind of thing, so all that's really missing to give him an authentic at-home experience is a cacophony of cicadas. His dreams can fill in for that well enough, at least, putting him right into a sunny afternoon. Calming? Maybe, maybe not, probably not exactly, but it's not enough to overtake his body's attempts to fix his sleep deficit for a good while.
Even when it does become a little Too Much, and he's finally roused from the nap, it's a fairly gradual process, not a jarring startle. Which... is it's own kind of disorienting, in all honesty, but maybe it's nice to not wake up via adrenaline rush once in a while! And. Maybe that whole nap was nice. Comparatively speaking.
He doesn't try to wake Kai, though. He may not have needed to catch up on sleep as badly as Shinji, but if he's still out, then there's no reason to disturb him.
