Thanks to you, I have been saddled with unnecessary...feelings.
♥ Who: Miles Edgeworth and Phoenix Wright
♥ Where: Lawyer House
♥ When: October 30th
♥ What: for the love of god can one of you spit it out
♥ Rating: G, probably
Miles has been wrestling with something. Well, a few things. Feelings, mostly. He's not used to this kind of thing. He's certainly liked getting to rekindle his friendship with Phoenix properly rather than in a mostly professional setting, but it's strange. It's been strange for a few months, but he's mostly been able to ignore it.
He's sitting at the kitchen table, reading a book, and trying not to let this occupy his mind.

Yep, he's kind of sort of got it bad.
Phoenix really wishes Maya were here for him to talk to about it. Not get advice, of course, but damned if he doesn't need a soundboard for these kinds of things. Note to self, make more friends here. Either way...
He's currently lounging on a portion of the couch, munching away at a few pieces of fruit he'd picked up from the store.
"You know, Miles, the couch is a lot more comfortable than that chair," he says. Invitation to hang out a bit closer? Go!
no subject
No matter what, it would be rude to turn down such an invitation (is what he tells himself) and he goes to sit on the other end of the couch. "Enjoying your snack?"
no subject
"Hungry? Open up!" And it's all the warning before he tosses a grape at Miles' mouth.
no subject
"You could have just offered me one like a normal person," he gripes good-naturedly as he stoops to pick up the former projectile.
no subject
Sorry, but not sorry. The grin on Phoenix's face remains in place as he watches him. "Tasty projectile?"
no subject
He almost goes for it, and then has a better idea. "You tell me," he says, and lobs it right back.
no subject
"Still counting this as a win," he says, slightly muffled by the grape still in his mouth before he finally chews and swallows it.
kfkskfjsjfbdke PHOENIX.
"You're ridiculous, Wright," he says, smiling. Then he corrects himself. "Phoenix." Sometimes it's difficult to remember that. Although in this case he thinks it's squirming fear in his stomach trying to make him distance himself emotionally. (If he's honest with himself, that's like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted. He couldn't distance his tangled emotions from Phoenix if he tried.)
(He's not sure he wants to try.)
:D

"Where else would I be?" Does he mean 'here on the couch', or 'here with me', or...?
It doesn't matter. I'm here.
no subject
"Well, I guess you're stuck in this world like I am. Still, no one forced you to move in with me. And no one forced you to stay and put up with all of my charming habits."
Phoenix teases, but...well, it's true.
"So... You know. Thanks. For this."
no subject
He waves off the compliment, because he's still not good at taking them, even after all this time. "It's...nothing, really. You've done so much for me, I can't help but return the favor. Not that this is out of obligation, or anything," he hurriedly adds. "You've just helped me out quite a bit, Phoenix. More than I deserve, I think."
no subject
"Miles," he says, trying to express in his look that he's being very genuine and serious about this. "Don't you ever think you don't deserve something. I know that you have regrets, and parts of your life you're not proud of, but even that wasn't fully your fault. The real Miles Edgeworth showed his colors once he broke free of the lies that bound him up. And that Miles Edgeworth? The guy you really are? Yeah, he deserves the world."
Phoenix would give it to him if he could. As it stands, he'll give him the best he can.
"I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for you. Even if the circumstances weren't exactly ideal for how a lot of it began, the fact of the matter is, I wouldn't be in this position on my own. I wouldn't be able to help people the way I do now, save lives, even. I'm proud of who I became, and it started with you. I'm able to stay the way I am because of you, whether you're at my side or across the courtroom from me. So... yeah," he finishes, voice growing a little sheepish at the end, cheeks growing a little pink.
no subject
"And I wouldn't be who I am today without you, Phoenix. I mean that." He looks right at the lawyer in his lap, and looks away. Should he...?
"Phoenix, I..."
The words stick in his throat. He's normally so good at talking. Why can't he say this?
Because it will change everything.
no subject
He tilts his head, curious of where Miles is going next with this. Phoenix knows that Miles tends to be hesitant when it comes to things dealing with emotions, so he isn't surprised, but...
no subject
Come on, Edgeworth, spit it out.
"I've come to care for you a great deal. And though I have no real basis for comparison..."
He looked away, then looked back at Phoenix. He needed to look him in the eye when he said this.
"I think I may be in love with you."
The Rubicon is crossed. Alea iacta est.
no subject
Oh.
Phoenix's eyes widen, because how can he not be surprised? That Miles has come to care for him a great deal, he understands. They've grown closer over the time since Von Karma's defeat, and even closer over their time here, in such close content and time spent directly at each others' sides. It's much more than a simple reigniting of friendship.
That he himself had--has fallen for the prosecutor is no big surprise in itself to him. Not with how important Miles is to him, not with how much he admires him. Phoenix isn't one to easily fall in love, not since the disaster in college. He's not that naïve or immature anymore.
To love Miles just feels natural. To be in love with him, just so.
As comfortable as Phoenix is in his lap right now, he gets up in order to face him properly. Not that he gets any further--he sits next to him, bodies still touching. His hand moves to cup Miles' cheek.
"I know you're not the kind of guy who'd joke about something like this. I won't ask if you're being serious. But before we go any further... Swear to me that you mean that."
no subject
"I mean it," he said, as sincere as he'd ever been in his life and hoping to whatever higher powers here may be listening that it comes across as such. "I th--no, I am in love with you, Phoenix Wright."
no subject
It's nothing short of a relief to finally get it out into the open. While it hadn't been painful to hold in, to express it and to have it reciprocated in turn is something he never thought he'd be able to get.
no subject
"You do?"
no subject
This is real. Holy shit, this is real. He'd pinch himself to make sure, but he likes where his hand is right now. And that small smile on his lips...
"It's definitely okay if you say no and that I'm going too fast, but, um... Can I kiss you?"
no subject
"I think we can try it," says Miles, feeling a little bit dizzy. Is this really happening? He'd never have thought this would be turning out the way it is right now. "I will warn you, however, that I'm not likely to be any good at it."
no subject
There's a short pause before Phoenix finally bridges the gap, pressing his lips gently against the other man's. It isn't much of a kiss yet, but something more akin to a promise: I want this, I want you, I love you.
no subject
There's nothing about it that should be surprising, but it is, all of it is. Just the closeness, the kindness of it, and the feeling that he doesn't deserve it.
After a moment, Miles turns and ducks his head, beet-red and suddenly shy. "I'm sorry, I..." He fumbles for the right words, which isn't something that happens to him often. It's happened to him much more often now that he's been around Phoenix. "I don't know what I'm doing." If it sounds like he thinks of it as a personal failing, he does. To underscore that it's his own neuroses, he gently takes Phoenix's hand, and clears his throat before looking at him once more. "Let's try again."
no subject
"Hey. It's cool. One thing at a time," he says in response. Slowly, he leans in for another one, letting Miles close the gap this time.
no subject
"I love you," he says quietly, because if you're going to go to town, may as well go in a Lincoln.
no subject
"I love you too," he responds, his smile bright.

After some moments, Phoenix dares to try deepening the kiss, judging Miles' reaction.

He continues to kiss him, pulling him a bit closer. If he notices Miles' nervousness, it's only mirrored by his own.
no subject
He doesn't resist as Phoenix pulls him closer, and tentatively puts his hand on his hip. Is he...doing this right?
