There's always a chance that things go badly, that the world is more cruel than he wishes for, and the chance for that is high, he's learned over the course of this past year. He'd been afraid of it, of confirming a void of hope, though it's a fear that she's clearly been carrying for a lot longer. So... it's back to how it was before. Her fate wasn't changed. He doesn't fully understand what he just witnessed, but he can recognize the end clearly and plainly enough, and much as he'd love to deny it even now, he doesn't want to hurt her anymore. Already he worries what this might have done, what ripples that his argument and that fleeting desire to save might create in her. Will she, they be okay? Will knowing be better than an instinct? There can be peace and turmoil both, born from such knowledge. He doesn't know what she'll feel, one or both or neither.
All he can do is ask, and do his best to clean up whatever mess his meddling has caused. Very tentatively, he reaches out towards the light.]
