Just a moment, though, because there's only so much time between Shinji letting that thought escape and the realization that, hey, you just, uh, you just said the in-your-head thing out loud. Suddenly all of that quietness and stillness comes to a crashing stop on Shinji's end as everything starts to catch up and his heart begins absolutely racing. He hadn't meant to say that, why did he say that?

He brings his free hand up to cover his mouth, as if that's somehow going to take those words back, or stop more from slipping out, or... something. He doesn't know what, but something. It's sure not going to make him less suspicious, at any rate, but he's also not tying to worm his way out of the situation, no matter how many different scenarios on how to do exactly this might be running through his head at the moment.

He's not sure he trusts himself to say anything at the moment either, but he keeps his hold on Kai's hand nice and tight as well. Don't you go anywhere either, please.
