These regions have much to offer the Empire. But beyond the land we have also invested heavily in magiteknology. Our magitek is more advanced than any in the world, though we still have much to learn from the ancients. It took some time, but it was my research into meat production that ultimately alleviated the famine. We endured the hard times.
